#10: “Roots” – Miniseries
Release Date: May 30, 2016

“Roots” remains one of television’s most important landmarks. So as you can imagine, this remake of the 1977 miniseries has some big shoes to fill. Even if the History Channel’s interpretation doesn’t exceed its predecessor, though, it could still bring something provocative to the table, especially with big names like Forest Whitaker, Laurence Fishburne, and Anna Paquin. If you don’t know the extraordinary story of Kunta Kinte’s enslavement and his family’s rise to freedom, this may be a powerful introduction.

#9: “Dangerous Woman” by Ariana Grande
Release Date: May 20, 2016

Ariana Grande’s third studio album was initially going to be entitled, “Moonlight.” Last February, however, Grande announced that the album would instead be named after the song, “Dangerous Woman.” The track has already received some praise from critics, as has this a capella performance of the song. Fans got another taste of the album when she performed “Be Alright,” on “Saturday Night Live.” Featuring collaborations with Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, and Macy Gray, “Dangerous Woman” just might recruit more followers to her ever-growing army of very dedicated fans, the “Arianators.”

#8: “Overwatch”
Release Date: May 24, 2016

Blizzard Entertainment have proven many times that they know how to create immersive gaming realms.Based on the trailers for “Overwatch,” it appears that Blizzard has developed another imaginative world beaming with rich detail and lore. Taking place in the near-future, this multiplayer first-person shooter will feature a diverse team of playable heroes with unique abilities. Granted, the gameplay has drawn heavy comparison to “Team Fortress 2,” but that doesn’t mean “Overwatch” can’t stand out in a class of its own. Plus, one of the characters is a genius scientist gorilla! We’ve never seen anything like that befoooh, wait...

7: “Bloodline” – Season 2
Release Date: May 27, 2016

By now you may have already binge watched the newest seasons of “Daredevil” and “House of Cards,” but Netflix is about to repopulate your cue. The first season of “Bloodline” was among last year’s most addicting shows, hooking viewers with its layered, nuanced characters and captivating mystery. We won’t delve into spoiler territory here, but let’s just say the Rayburn family’s troubles are clearly far from over. Let’s just hope season two can keep up the tension and not suffer from the sophomore slump.

#6: “The Nice Guys”
Release Date: May 20, 2016 [U.S.]

We honestly never expected Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling to co-star in a buddy cop movie together. That’s just one of the reasons why “The Nice Guys” looks so intriguing, through. Directed by Shane Black of “Iron Man 3,” this dark comedy sets itself in 1970’s LA where a private investigator and a hard-hitting enforcer discover a criminal conspiracy. If the film is as hilarious as the red band trailers, we’re definitely up for a little bad cop, bad cop.

#5: “Preacher” – Season 1
Release Date: May 22, 2016

With “Superbad,” “Pineapple Express,” and “This is the End,” Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen have turned in one solid product after another. For this new television series, the two have teamed up with “Breaking Bad” writer Sam Catlin to bring the acclaimed comic book series to life.Starring Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, “Preacher” could follow in the footsteps of AMC’s hit shows like “The Walking Dead” ...or it could be Rogen and Goldberg’s biggest misfire since “The Green Hornet.”

#4: Doom
Release Date: May 13, 2016

It’s been over ten years since “Doom 3,” the last major entry in this revolutionary first-person shooter franchise. “Doom 4” spent eons in development hell until id Software finally decided to start from scratch. This kind of development narrative is familiar to game fans, and recalls the drawn out disappointment that was “Duke Nukem Forever.” But judging from the kickass gameplay footage, this reboot may just recapture everything we love about “Doom” while also reinvigorating the series.

#3: “X-Men: Apocalypse”
Release Date: May 27, 2016 [U.S.]

Director Bryan Singer returns for this showdown between Charles Xavier's X-Men and Apocalypse's Four Horsemen. Along with bringing back fan favorites like Michael Fassbender’s Magneto and Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique, the film will also get a new crack at some of the characters who were underutilized earlier in the franchise, including Storm, Nightcrawler and Psylocke. Fans are especially eager to see if Oscar Isaac can continue his winning streak as the villainous Apocalypse, who threatens to destroy mankind. Now if only there was room for Deadpool in there.

#2: “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End”
Release Date: May 10, 2016

If you went with a PlayStation 4 over an Xbox One, “A Thief’s End” probably played a hand in your decision. Aside from delivering some of the most thrilling set pieces in gaming, the original “Uncharted” trilogy created characters we truly cared about. “Uncharted 4” will see Nathan Drake come out of retirement for one last treasure hunt. Whether this is indeed Drake’s final adventure or a new beginning, we just hope the game’s release date doesn’t get pushed back AGAIN!

#1: “Captain America: Civil War”
Release Date: May 6, 2016 [U.S.]

Just a couple months after Batman and Superman went head to head, Captain America, Iron Man, and several other Avengers will be divided by a Civil War. Whatever happened to being Super Friends? Anyway, in addition to those familiar MCU faces, this blockbuster also marks the debut of Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther and Tom Holland as your friendly neighborhood... uh, what’s his name again? No matter which side you’re rooting for, “Civil War” is destined to unite Marvel fans everywhere as the summer movie season officially commences.
