Top 10 Most Heartwarming Online Fan Interactions

Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the most satisfying, hilarious and downright inspiring moments when celebrities went out of their way to engage with a fan on social media.

#10: Hilarie Burton

Missing out on an audition can be disappointing for any actor, but one social media user made it worse for her friend when she found herself in that situation. The lady recounted how someone she knew lost a role to actress Hilarie Burton, but instead of consoling her, she began gushing over Burton’s husband, Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Funnily enough, Burton stumbled upon the tweet, and she couldn’t help but be amused by it. She, however, sent her apologies to the friend for snagging the role, but admitted that she also feels the same sting whenever she’s passed over for parts. Hopefully, she doesn’t have someone swooning over another person’s partner in her own moments of loss.

#9: Taylor Swift

Celebrities are bombarded with countless letters and messages from fans every day, so it would be nearly impossible for them to read and respond to every single one. That’s why it must have been incredibly validating for one lucky fan to get a personal shoutout from their favorite artist, Taylor Swift. After reading their letter, Swift took to social media and specifically mentioned their handle, thanking them for the note and stating how happy it made her feel. It’s a testament to just how much Swift values her fans, and we can only imagine the pure joy this one tweet must have brought to that person.

#8: Simone Biles

If you’re a young gymnast with Olympic dreams, getting a shoutout from the Simone Biles is pretty much the ultimate power-up. With 11 Olympic and 30 World Championship medals, Biles isn’t just the most decorated gymnast in history, she is also widely regarded as one of the greatest athletes of all time. So it must have meant a lot when she noticed and praised a training video of 5-year-old gymnast, Nova, on Instagram, telling her to “get it girl!” Little Nova, who started gymnastics at just 3 years old, hopes to one day represent the U.S. at the Olympic Games. With Biles cheering her on, we’d say Nova’s got a pretty bright future ahead of her.

#7: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

Even the wealthiest and most famous among us aren’t immune to mental health issues, as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has proved time and again. Despite his tough exterior, Johnson has never shied from showing his softer, more vulnerable side. In 2016, when a fan tweeted that Johnson’s openness about his experience with depression had inspired him to overcome his own challenges, he responded with a heartfelt message. Johnson emphasized how important it is to “speak up and ask for help,” especially for men, who are often conditioned to bottle it up. His words resonated far beyond that one fan, offering encouragement to countless others who may be facing a similar issue but are hesitant to reach out.

#6: Emma Watson

Ever since her portrayal of Hermione Granger in the “Harry Potter” film series, Emma Watson has developed a reputation as a feminist and gender equality advocate. In 2015, after she was appointed a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, Watson hosted a Q&A session on Twitter to promote the HeForShe campaign. One fan, named Ane, sent in a question asking how she could change her dad’s belief that engineering was solely for men. Watson’s response was simple yet powerful. She urged Ane to be the change her father needed to see by actually becoming an engineer. That three-word reply propelled Ane to follow her dreams, and in 2021, she became a Civil Engineer.

#5: Rihanna

If you’ve ever been heartbroken, it turns out one way to deal with the pain is to just message your favorite musician and ask them for advice. We don’t guarantee they’ll respond, but one Rihanna fan got lucky. After going through a rough breakup, the social media user sent a DM to Rihanna asking for advice on how she moved past her first heartbreak. To his surprise, Rihanna actually responded, telling him to “Cry if you have to, but it won't be forever!” She also reassured him that it wouldn’t be his last shot at finding love. Honestly, who better to give heartbreak advice than a musician? They practically sing about it for a living.

#4: Dan Harmon

Therapy is essential, but it can also be quite expensive. One lucky “Rick and Morty” fan got it for free from none other than the show’s co-creator, Dan Harmon. After tweeting at Harmon for advice on coping with depression, the fan could’ve easily been met with silence or a generic response. But Harmon took the time to craft a thought-provoking thread. In four detailed tweets, he urged them to “admit and accept” their situation, but try not to face it alone. He also reminded them that “feelings are real, but they aren’t reality,” a line that resonated with countless others who encountered the thread. The fan was deeply moved by the gesture, calling it “probably better than my therapist could’ve said it.”

#3: Michael B. Jordan

Here’s a warning for everyone: try not to clench your teeth too hard when your celebrity crush appears on-screen. Otherwise, you might end up like Sophia Robb. In 2018, Robb was forced to visit the orthodontist after watching “Black Panther.” But what’s the connection, you ask? Well, when Michael B. Jordan popped up shirtless on-screen, she was so smitten that she clenched her teeth too hard and her retainer broke. The story first circulated online anonymously, but Robb eventually came clean. Remarkably, Jordan stumbled upon her tweet and, feeling a little bit guilty, he offered to pay for a new one. Apparently, breaking your retainer can get you a shout-out from your celebrity crush, so maybe our warning isn’t worth heeding after all.

#2: Ryan Reynolds

Getting dumped a few days after prom must be a special kind of heartbreak, because now your prom photos double as bitter souvenirs of the failed relationship. In 2017, Canadian teenager Gabi Dunn came up with a clever way to deal with that pain. She photoshopped her prom pictures, swapping out her ex and replacing him with Ryan Reynolds. The revamped photos quickly went viral online and eventually made it onto the timeline of Reynolds himself. In a playful move to cheer her up, the actor suggested they take it up a notch and photoshop him over the ex’s yearbook photo as well. He even came up with a fierce hashtag, #DontMessWithGabi, which we’re sure became her new mantra.

#1: Nicki Minaj

In 2017, Nicki Minaj proved she’s not just a gifted rapper and lyricist, she’s also a generous philanthropist. While hosting a social media challenge for her fans, one of them turned the tables on her, asking Minaj to help cover their tuition. Minaj rose to the challenge in a spectacular manner, not just for that fan, but also for others, offering to pay educational expenses if they could prove they had good grades. Within hours, hundreds of students had reached out, and Minaj reportedly donated over $50,000 to assist 30 of them. She also announced plans to start a charity organization to continue supporting students with their educational expenses. Now that’s real queen behavior.
