Top 10 Most Paused Movie Nude Scenes

Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the most captivating or unexpected nude scenes that had viewers hitting the pause button.

#10: Like One of Your French Girls

“Titanic” (1997)
Even though this is a tragic film, for some, it may be a guilty pleasure and for obvious reasons. With its PG-13 rating, nudity in “Titanic” was relatively mild. Aside from Jack and Rose’s racy car scene, the painting sequence stands out as a subtly sensual highlight. When Rose steps into the room clad in just a transparent robe and necklace, anticipation builds. Then comes the moment everyone’s been waiting for- a brief yet unforgettable glimpse of Kate Winslet’s figure. Back in the VHS era, replaying those artfully framed shots felt like a rite of passage. And let’s be honest, Mr. Big Artist wasn’t the only one blushing by the end of that scene.

#9: Mirror Image

“Trading Places” (1983)
It’s safe to say Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd’s chemistry isn’t the only reason some of us keep revisiting this timeless comedy. Jamie Lee Curtis’ sizzling reveal in her first big role outside horror made this film truly unforgettable. Playing Ophelia, a sex worker with a heart of gold, Curtis didn’t just win us over with her smartness or kindness. It’s what lies before that heart that captivated us more. Fans of the Scream Queen will no doubt remember the sensual scene where Ophelia takes off her top, catches Louis staring and quickly covers up. While many couldn’t help admiring her figure, Curtis reportedly felt embarrassed about the scene.

#8: Peeping Tom

“National Lampoon’s Animal House” (1978)
Before comedies like “American Pie” and “Old School” came along, there was the legendary “Animal House”- a movie so vulgar it redefined college chaos. While nudity wasn’t in short supply, one particular moment stuck out. Using a ladder, Bluto spies on a sorority, where the girls are, of course, having a pillowfight in their underwear. Completely normal. He then gawks at Mandy as she strips down. Just as his excitement reaches its peak, his ladder tips over. This moment likely had many going back for another look.

#7: Shower Flash

“Gone Girl” (2014)
This psychological thriller didn’t just earn critical acclaim, it also went viral for one jaw-dropping moment. During the tense shower scene where Amy Dunne spills it all, Nick has no choice but to strip down to hear her confessions. It wasn’t just Amy’s words that caught viewers off-guard but something more interesting. While some may have missed the fleeting showcase of Ben Affleck’s full-frontal, eagle-eyed fans certainly didn’t. And even if you did, there’s always the pause button. And yes, it was the real deal. In an industry where male stars rarely bare it all, this scene deserved the attention it got.

#6: Triple Threat

“Total Recall” (1990)
This sci-fi adventure follows Arnold Schwarzenegger as a construction worker haunted by the dreams of Mars, with Sharon Stone playing his wife. Despite the A-list stars and action thrills, there’s one moment that has remained arguably even more memorable. While navigating the mutant-populated area, our protagonist encounters a woman who unzips her top to reveal some unique anatomy. It remains one of the movie’s most talked-about moments. This triple threat was memorable enough to make a cameo in the 2012 reboot.

#5: Diggler’s Legendary Asset

“Boogie Nights” (1997)
It could’ve been Leonardo DiCaprio or Joaquin Phoenix in “Boogie Nights” but they both passed on the role. Instead it was Mark Wahlberg who finally played Eddie, whose rise and fall in the adult film industry unfolds in this daring movie. The film has an unflinching approach to explicit content, but one moment nonetheless stands out. To show us how big a star he is, Dirk Diggler bares it all. In case you’re wondering, yes it was a prosthetic. Even so, it’s a role that Wahlberg openly regrets.

#4: Seduction

“The Wolf of Wall Street” (2013)
In the role that shot her to stardom, Margot Robbie made a bold decision for her character in Martin Scorsese’s 2013 film “The Wolf of Wall Street”. Playing lingerie designer Naomi Lapaglia, she seduces stockbroker Jordan Belfort wearing only high heels and socks. Interestingly, the nudity was Robbie’s own idea. Speaking to The Telegraph, she said: “The whole point of Naomi is that her body is her only form of currency in this world.” She insisted that in the scene “She has to be naked. She's laying her cards on the table”. Judging by how electrifying that scene turned out, she was right.

#3: Sunbathing

“Swordfish” (2001)
While the film “Swordfish” was far from a smash hit, it generated buzz before release thanks to news of Halle Berry’s first topless scene. It may be unnecessary, but for many it was a pause-worthy moment. For those who need a refresher, it happens when Hugh Jackman’s hacker Stanley walks outside to find Berry’s Ginger sunbathing. She lowers her book, unashamed of her nudity. Though rumors claimed that Berry was paid extra for the scene, the “Catwoman” actress denied them, explaining it was her way of overcoming her fear of on-screen nudity.

#2: Interrogation

“Basic Instinct” (1992)
For decades, this erotic thriller has remained influential not just for its plot but for pushing boundaries with provocative details. None is more unforgettable than that famous shot of Sharon Stone’s femme fatale, Catherine Tramell. Allegedly, Stone claimed she didn’t know the gratuitous view would make the final cut - but it did, and it’s now etched into cinema history. While being interrogated, Catherine uncrosses her legs, casually revealing that she’s not wearing underwear. The shocking moment probably had many scrambling to rewind their VHS tapes to double-check what they saw.

#1: Bikini-drop

“Fast Times at Ridgemont High” (1982)

Thanks to Linda Barrett, many from that era can’t hear the classic “Moving in Stereo” without picturing that pool scene. In capturing high school in its raw and honest form, this 80s sex comedy didn’t shy away from portraying explicit scenes. One that has been burned in many memories is that steamy daydream where Brad imagines Linda, played by Phoebe Cates, seducing him. Stepping out of the pool, she casually takes off her bikini top. The scene has become iconic, and easily one of the most paused of all time.
