Top 10 Most Popular YouTubers You May Not Have Heard Of

Despite their popularity, these successful channels continue to fly under the radar of many would-be subscribers. Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the top 10 most popular YouTubers you may not have heard of. For this list, we're looking at channels who have managed to gain at least 1 million subscribers but that seem to lack the mainstream recognition of channels like Pewdiepie or Smosh. Our picks cover YouTubers from all over the world that have created plenty of great content.

#10: AsapSCIENCE

We might’ve paid more attention in biology if AsapScience taught the class. Canadian duo Mitchell Moffit and Gregory Brown founded their channel with the goal of applying science to answer the questions that people care about. As narration breaks down each video’s concept, static and animated drawings pop up on the background. The format and short video runtimes make it easy to stay engaged and genuinely enjoy the learning experience. AsapScience has explored the brain, explained why that dress looked white and gold and solved the yanny vs. laurel debate for their nearly 8.5 million subscribers. But if you need more proof that the channel is legit, we have four words for you: they got Bill Nye.

#9: BB Ki Vines

In 2015, Bhuvan Bam launched the comedic BB Ki vines YouTube Channel. Bam’s channel features skits that parody and exaggerate everyday issues of Indian life. By playing multiple recurring characters and relying on his phone’s camera to record, he’s gained a massive following with a low production cost. Since starting his channel, Bam has gained over 12 million subscribers and, in 2016, was awarded the title of most popular channel at the WebTVAsia awards. He’s also acted in a short film, created original music and starred on a season of the comedy web series “Bro Court”. Between Bam’s new ventures and reliable content, BB Ki Vines shows no signs of slowing down.

#8: Wengie

If you need a break from negativity on the internet, head over to Wengie’s main channel. After she greets you with one of her trademark hugs, you’ll be treated to lots of lighthearted content. Whether Wengie’s working on adorable DIY projects, letting us in on useful life hacks or playing around with slime, her videos practically ooze positivity. While her music channel is a bit edgier than her main channel, most of her content is appropriate for all ages. Wengie’s bubbly personality and positive videos have brought in over 13.2 million subscribers and earned her Best Channel and Overall Winner at the 2017 Australian Online Video Awards.

#7: Simone Giertz

Do you like seeing machines fail in spectacular fashion? Then you’ll love Simone Giertz. On her eponymous channel, this Swedish inventor specializes in making ridiculous machines that create more problems than they solve. As she builds her creations, her 1.5 million subscribers witness her hilarious fails and endearing commentary. When Giertz isn’t constructing or collaborating with other YouTubers, she provides her audience with an honest view of her personal life. In recent years, she’s documented her personal struggles and triumphs after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. Giertz’s determination and overarching message that failure is okay have made her channel both fun and inspiring.

#6: outsidexbox

Editors/gamers Andy Farrant, Jane Douglas and Mike Channell teamed up to bring us this Xbox themed channel. Since joining YouTube in 2009, the trio have become a great source for entertaining let’s plays, funny list videos and sarcastic remarks about games. As their subscriber base grew to over 2.3 million viewers, the team added a few more members and created a spin off channel, Outside Xtra, to cover other consoles and gaming innovations. What makes OutsideXbox so fun to watch is the fantastic chemistry between the presenters, as well as the ways in which they incorporate fan comments into their videos. Whichever console you personally prefer, OutsideXbox will make you hungry to play more games.

#5: elrubiusOMG

Although Skyrim playthroughs and Chatroulette sound like an unlikely pair, the combination of these videos helped launch Rubén Doblas Gundersen into YouTube stardom. As his videos gained more popularity, he branched out into other game franchises and vlogging. Ruben’s gaming videos and reviews combine quick edits with memes to hilarious effect, while his vlogs and skits are just as funny because of his quirky and lively personality. Ruben has managed to draw in over 33 million subscribers to elrubiusOMG. And when he gathered 100 Spanish YouTubers to play Fortnite, the live stream got more concurrent viewers than the rapper Drake had when he played on Twitch: 1.1 million! He’s certainly come a long way from Skyrim and Chatroulette.

#4: Felipe Neto

When you hear that trademark “Ola”, you know that Neto’s colorful commentary isn’t far behind. Felipe Neto is an outspoken YouTube vlogger whose videos are a mix of countdowns, critiques and random things he finds cool. His comedic, and at times biting, delivery can make even the most mundane topics exciting. After Neto’s channel became the first Brazilian channel to reach one million subscribers, he founded a multi-channel network called Paramaker to help manage thousands of other YouTubers. While Neto might not be as popular as Brazilian based channels Canal Kondzilla or Whinderssonnunes, he gets to say “ola” to his over 30 million subscriber count daily.

#3: Fernanfloo

Luis Fernando Flores Alvarado, AKA, Fernanfloo is one of the most energetic gamers on YouTube. Whether he’s flying through a round of “Happy Wheels” or drawing Pokémon, his enthusiasm and dramatic reactions make for hilarious viewing. Luis’ animated videos have made his channel one of the most subscribed in El Salvador. His internet fame even earned him a cameo in the Resident Evil 2 remake. Although he started to post less frequently on YouTube in favor of Twitch, he still has tons of classic content and plenty of loyal fans. Whenever you’re in the mood to laugh, just join the 32 million plus subscribers who already love his wild energy.

#2: T-Series

Top 20 YouTubers Who Quit

T-Series is a powerhouse of entertainment in India. The company provides music videos, children’s shows, workout tips and so much more over its twenty-nine individual channels. T-Series’ exclusive music content is their biggest draw. By featuring songs from popular movies and artists that represent different Indian languages and musical genres, they’re able to appeal to a massive audience. T-Series’ rapid growth has nearly taken the title of most subscribed channel from Pewdiepie and it now seems like only a matter of time - despite Pewdiepie’s diss track and campaigns from his loyal fans. T-Series clearly knows what it’s doing! Before we subscribe to our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. VEGETTA777 Muselk The Infographics Show FitnessBlender Ashens

#1: AfterPrisonShow

After spending over seven years in prison, Joe Guerrero decided he wanted to make something good come out of his experience. As a result, he launched AfterPrisonshow. Guerrero uses his channel to educate viewers about the realities of the prison system. He also gives advice on how to survive inside and the steps a person should take after being released. At times, Guerrero’s videos can be raw and brutally honest, but he also breaks up the heavy subject matter with jokes and success stories. At just over one million subscribers, Guerrero may not have as many subs as our other entries, but he more than makes up for it with his unique and meaningful content.
