Bad guys better run and hide because these cartoon heroes are exceptionally powerful. For this list, we'll be looking at some of the most powerful good characters from TV cartoons. We will be excluding movie protagonists, anime, and traditional superheroes as they deserve lists of their own. Our countdown includes Aang from “Avatar: The Last Airbender” (2005-08), Star Butterfly from “Star vs. the Forces of Evil” (2015-19), Optimus Prime from the “Transformers” franchise (1984-), and more!

For this list, we'll be looking at some of the most powerful good characters from TV cartoons. Everything from their special abilities to accomplishments will be considered. We will be excluding movie protagonists, anime and traditional superheroes as they deserve lists of their own. Did we miss any powerful cartoon main characters? Let us know in the comments below.

“Samurai Jack” (2001-04; 17) In his journey to get back to the past and defeat his archenemy Aku, the samurai known as Jack has survived moments that would leave lesser men broken. Trained by the greatest warriors and scholars of his era, the hero honed his body until it became a lethal weapon. Jack’s off-the-charts strength and lightning fast reflexes compliment his skills with his weapon well. The mystical katana blessed by the gods themselves that he wields cuts through metallic and magical foes with ease. Additionally, Jack’s time in the future also allowed him to develop new skills such as learning to operate future weaponry and how to “jump good.” He also became temporarily ageless and retained his youth and strength during his lengthy battle against Aku.

#9: Optimus Prime

“Transformers” franchise (1984-) Serving as the leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime has proven himself to be a noble soul willing to risk his life protecting the freedoms of all sentient beings from the brutality of the Decepticons. Along with mastering numerous weapons such as ion blasters and swords, he’s also acquired tons of equipment over the years. By adding additional robot parts or fusing with other Cybertronians, Optimus is able to increase his power, and in some cases, even gain the ability to fly. But the most important tool Optimus has is the Matrix of Leadership. This ancient artifact is imbued with the power of Primus, the creator of all Cybertronians. It’s been known to make users stronger and can even bring beings to life.

“Generator Rex” (2010-13) As cocky and immature as he can be, Rex Salazar is willing to give it his all to protect his Earth from rampaging EVOs. After being imbued with the Omega-1 Nanite and becoming a human-EVO hybrid, he developed the power to control and manipulate Nanites. Rex can use his powers to cure EVOs and create a variety of mechanical weapons. He’s wielded giant gauntlets, a cannon, a jetpack and even a large sword. As he became stronger, Rex’s arsenal allowed him to wield new toys like battle axes, giant nunchucks, and even a super cool giant robot mode. Rex gained so much power at one point that he temporarily became a god and cured all EVOs.

“My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic” (2010-19) Underneath Twilight Sparkle’s adorable exterior dwells an insane amount of magical potential. Possessing the most powerful of the Elements of Harmony, the element of magic, she’s capable of performing more than two dozen types of magic. Teleportation, size alteration, time travel, transformation, the ability to create energy shields and fire blasts of magical energy are all part of her skillset. She’s even managed to create a brand new form of magic that allowed her to graduate from a unicorn into an alicorn. Twilight was also able to absorb the magical energies of the three Equstria Princesses. Thanks to this act, her already formidable magic powers were pushed to even greater heights.

“Avatar: The Last Airbender” (2005-08) While every Avatar has mastered the four elements and achieved legendary feats, Aang’s accomplishments put him in a league above most of his past lives. He became an airbending master by the time he was twelve. After emerging from an iceberg, Aang was able to learn how to command the other elements just as well as other masters in less than a year. He becomes even more formidable when he enters the Avatar State that grants him more knowledge and power. To top it all off, Aang learned how to energy bend. Admittedly, his powerful successor Korra found new ways to utilize this skill and other bending forms. (*xref) But Aang broke new ground by creating a technique that could depower master fighters in seconds.

“Ben 10” franchise (2005-) By wielding the power of the Omnitrix, Ben can transform into various alien heroes. Each brings their own unique abilities such as super strength, pyrokinesis, flight, cryokinesis, as well as energy absorption. Don’t let Ben’s happy-go-lucky demeanor fool you. He can also get serious when the situation demands it. In intense situations, Ben will use whatever means necessary to protect the innocent, both humans and aliens alike. With an arsenal of alien powerhouses to call on like Feedback, Atomix and the omnipotent Alien X, there is virtually nothing that Ben Tennyson can’t do. Did we mention he recreated an entire universe? You definitely don’t want to get on this hero's bad side, especially when he goes full Rath.

“Steven Universe” (2013-19) While he may have started out as goofy and immature, Steven Universe eventually bloomed into a true crystal gem. As a human-Gem hybrid, Steven can heal, levitate, create shields and barriers for both defense and offense and a whole lot more. Steven’s also capable of fusing with humans and Gems he is close to so he can gain new abilities and boost his fighting potential. He’s also capable of taking hits from immensely powerful creatures without being shattered. Since Steven’s powers are largely influenced by his emotions, a lack of emotional clarity can make him unstable. In one instance, Steven’s emotional state became so corrupted that his powers went berserk and turned him into a literal beast that all his friends combined had trouble stopping.

“Star vs. the Forces of Evil” (2015-19) When her friends are in danger, this magical princess won’t hesitate to do whatever she must to protect them. Fortunately, Star can also cast reality-changing spells with her wand. The enchantments she casts often involve creating original uses of magic that are unusual, yet powerful. Star can also transform enemies and objects into practically whatever she can think of. Even without the wand, she’s also proficient in both melee and weapons combat. In desperate situations, Star can even transform into her Mewberty form which allows her to fly, travel across dimensions and greatly enhances the power of her spells. Woe to anyone foolish enough to get in the way of this rebellious princess.

“He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” franchise (1983-) This iconic protagonist didn’t get the title of “the most powerful man in the universe,” for nothing. As Prince Adam’s alter-ego, He-Man is the fearless defender of Castle Grayskull and Eternia. While his origins and powers have undergone several changes throughout the franchise, he’s always been known for being nigh invulnerable, super fast and strong enough to lift objects several times his size. He-Man’s weapon of choice is a Power Sword that can cut through almost anything. He can also use it to transform his pet tiger Cringer into the just as fearsome Battle Cat. In the 2021 reboot of “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe,” He-Man’s capable of sharing his power with people besides Cringer and can channel lightning blasts through his sword.

“Rick and Morty” (2013-) Rather than listing all the things he can do, it’s actually much easier to list the things that Rick C-137 can’t do. As one of the smartest beings in the multiverse, Rick’s created hundreds of gadgets and weapons that allow him to sci-fi his way out of any situation. He’s got a signature multiversal portal gun that allows him to teleport objects and people around the multiverse. Rick’s arsenal includes cybernetic implants, energy shields, lasers, and even battle suits. Over the years, Rick has made a ton of enemies ranging from supernatural entities to god-like beings. And he’s even come up with ways to come back to life if his body is destroyed. Rick’s intelligence and nigh immortality make him virtually unstoppable in his multiverse.
