#9 – Judge Not, Lest Ye Be Judged

In his free time, our buddy Neil acts as a celebrity judge on some of our favorite reality shows. But our favorite moment was when he finally took on Simon Cowell on “American Idol.” Let’s face it, Simon had it coming. Okay, can we just say: we’d love to see him on some kinda reality show as a contestant: we’ll go with either “Survivor” or “Dancing with the Stars.”

#8 – The Magic Touch

Fun fact: NPH digs magic. Actually, that’s an understatement: he’s a respected member of the magic community who’s won awards and will show off his skills at every opportunity. That means he’s used it to wow late show hosts, impress Gleeks, and pick up ladies as his “How I Met Your Mother” alter ego. Also, where most men would keep their sports-themed man caves, he’s got a magic room.

#7 – Singing For His Supper

Not only does NPH display his magic skills nonstop; he also flaunts his musical talent anywhere he goes. And we mean anywhere! Doogie sang a song or two, and so does Barney Stinson, but Harris also belts it out on-stage, in the lab, at church, on “Sesame Street,” with Smurfs, and with friends. And, while an Aerosmith cover mighta won him an Emmy, nothing suits him like a suit.

#6 – He’s So Animated

We also love it when NPH uses his voice for things other than singing. Not only has he portrayed The Flash, Nightwing AND Spider-Man in animated projects, he’s also voiced a dolphin, a monkey and Barney Stinson. Our preference? Probably a tie between his part as the shunned AIDS sufferer on “Captain Planet,” and his role as Prince Gumball on “Adventure Time.” Talk about extremes!

#5 – His Catchphrases are Legen – wait for it – dary

Between the bro code and the hot-crazy scale, we love NPH as Barney enough, but the fact that this womanizing, suit wearing, smooth-talker is mega-quotable just puts him over the top. In fact, throughout the entire history of television, we suggest that there is perhaps no character with as many catchphrases as Barney Stinson. See? Told ya.

#4 – The Host with the Most

NPH has broad appeal. Y’know how we know? He’s hosted the Tonys, the Emmys, the TV Land Awards, the World Magic Awards, and the Spike Video Game Awards – that’s about as different as you get! How does he do it? He’s got singing chops, dancing skills and comedic timing out the wazoo. He even opened the Oscars with a song one year when he was not hosting because, why not?

#3 – He’s Not A Doctor, He Just Plays One on TV… And the Internet

Harris rose to fame as a child star and child prodigy on “Doogie Howser, M.D.,” and even won a People’s Choice Award for his work as the teen doc. NPH put his fake medical training to use later in his career: not only did he use it to shill for Old Spice, but he also helped Joss Whedon create the online sensation as the title character in “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.”

#2 – T.G.I.N.P.H.

What would ‘90s TV be without NPH? Sure, he played Doogie, but he also made so many guest appearances on our favorite shows we can hardly keep track. Whether he’s charming Blossom as her slick boyfriend, bullying the Quantum Leaping Sam Beckett, sweet-talkin’ lady cops on “Homicide: Life on the Street,” running from a murder rap on “Murder She Wrote,” or reprising his Doogie role in “Roseanne,” we can’t get enough.

We know Neil Patrick Harris is fully committed to suits, clean living and family. That’s what makes this so funny: Harris’ career comeback came as a result of him completely going against that image, alongside Harold and Kumar. We gotta be honest: it’s a tie for our favorite NPH moment from the series. His first scene is classic, but the time his boyfriend is outed as his dealer is priceless.
