Top 10 One-Hit Kill Guns in Video Games

These babies give “one hit wonder” a whole new meaning. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the top 10 One-Hit Kill Guns in Video Games.

For this list, we’re looking at the top video game guns, bows, cross bows, and other projectile-based weapons that can take out at least one enemy at full health in just one shot.

#10: Torque Bow

“Gears of War” series (2006-)

Leave it to Gears to turn a medieval cross bow into a high velocity grenade launcher. The torque bow, originally designed exclusively for locust elites, fires a large, explosive tip projectile resembling a crossbow bolt, that pierces the targets armor and explodes just a half second later. It’s that mark of death that makes the weapon so terrifying, allowing a brief moment for the victim to come to terms with their impeding doom… or accidentally running into team mates and granting the user a double kill. One things for sure, when you hear the signature twang of the bow, you’d better start running.

#9: Martini Henry

“Battlefield 1” (2016)

Being one of the only real-world guns on this list, you know its gotta’ be good. This breech-loaded single-shot rifle was used by the British Army in the first world war, but in Battlefield 1 the scout class uses it as possibly the deadliest rifle in the game, being able to kill anyone between 30 – 80 meters away with a single bullet. It’s had its fair share of nerfs and changes over the last few patches but as it stands it is still incredibly powerful. Even more so with an attached bayonet, allowing for both close and long range instakills.

#8: Super Shock Rifle

“Unreal Tournament” series (1999-)

This enhanced version of the standard Shock Rifle is better known by it’s nickname, the “Instagib rifle”, and for good reason. One shot from this bad boy won’t just kill your opponent, it’ll send each one of their limbs flying in a different direction. Popularized in “Insatgib” game modes such as “Instagib Capture the Flag”, the gun has different effects and limitations depending on the game type and mutator, however it’s safe to say if you find yourself in a situation where this gun is in your hands you’re in for a bloody good time, literally.

#7: PRL 412

“Resident Evil 4” (2005)

Some guns on this list have a trade off for the power they wield, others are just plain overpowered, the PRL 412 falls into the latter category. Awarded to the player for beating the game on the “professional” difficulty setting, this gun turns rescuing the president`s daughter from zombies into a walk in the park. One charged shot is enough to take out all but one enemy in the game… even bosses. Not only that but the secondary fire doubles as a flash grenade which can take out large amounts of infected all at once. Take that Dr. Salvador!

#6: Cerebral Bore

“Turok 2 & 3” (1998-2000)

Introduced in Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, this weapon gained a reputation as one of the most gruesome weapons in videogames, and it’s not hard to see why. This mult-step death machine puts the torque bow to shame by first, locking on to it’s target, then firing a homing drill that latches on to the victim’s head, then burrowing inside of the target’s skull, killing them, and finally finishing everything off by exploding once completely inside the skull taking the entire head with it. There really is no such thing as overkill huh?

#5: Farsight XR-20

“Perfect Dark” (2000)

Seeing through walls, locking on to enemies, and one-hit kills are all things gamers associate with cheaters in most modern multiplayer FPS games, but in Perfect Dark, the Farsight XR-20 had all those cheap tricks rolled into one. The gun can even fire shots through the very walls it lets you see through, allowing the user to pick off unsuspecting victims who physically can`t even shoot back. Sure, the lock on feature can be outrun at close range, but chances are you`ll just be shot through a wall anyway. Bonus points to this weapon for instantly killing friendships as well as enemies.

#4: Railgun

“Quake” series (1996-)

First appearing in Quake 2, the Railgun, AKA “Winstick” Or “Instawin,” has since become a staple of the series. Unlike many of the other weapons on this list the Railgun actually requires a bit of skill to master, as every iteration of the weapon has a long cooldown period between shots which leaves you extremely vulnerable in the fast-paced game of Quake. However, once a player adjusts to that cooldown and starts to predict enemy movement, one hit with this gun is almost always enough to kill any unarmored player, and its satisfying.

#3: BFG 9000

“DOOM” series (1993-)

The OG Instakill gun is also one of the most badass guns in gaming history. This large plasma firing gun appeared in the first DOOM and has been in every iteration since. It’s not just able to kill any non-boss enemy in one hit, it’s able to kill every one on the screen at once in one hit. This one makes it so high up on the list because of the overwhelming satisfaction you get when turning a room full of demons to goo with just the click of a button. Oh yeah, and it’s also a really Big F**king Gun.

#2: The Golden Gun

“Golden Eye 007” (1997)

One bullet, one gun, 24 karats. This shiny secret agent pistol is as synonymous with one-hit kills as it is with controller cables being torn out of N64s. Like many other guns on this list, it’s a high risk, high reward weapon, as the magazine only holds one round. However, if that round hits someone, they’ll die instantly. Play in a gentleman`s agreement golden gun only mode, or infuriate your friends who land three hits on you just before you get that one shot on their shin that takes them out. Stay golden, golden gun.

#1: AWP

“Counter-Strike” series (2000-)

One of only a handful of scoped weapons in the hip-fire frenzy that is Counter-Strike, the AWP is already a powerhouse. Combined with the fact that one shot to anywhere on the body, except the legs, will instantly kill even an armored opponent, and it’s clear why this gun takes the top spot. While some online servers ban the AWP entirely, most pro leagues have recognized the skill it takes to master the high risk, high reward gun. Many pro teams have designated “AWPers” that train extensively with the weapon and act as the team sniper. Who says insta-kills can’t be fair?
