Top 10 Reasons We Love Drake

Top 10 Reasons We Love Drake

Script written by Garrett Alden

These are the Top 10 Reasons We Love Drake! He's talented, he's handsome, he's witty… oops, we're getting ahead of ourselves. For this list, we'll be breaking down why we, and a whole lot of other people, simply think the world of Drake!

#10: He Loves Beyoncé

Let’s be honest: who doesn’t love Queen B? Ever since Drake broke onto the scene he’s been clamoring for a collaboration with the 22-time Grammy winner. When asked in a 2010 interview which artist he’d most like to work with, he answered Beyoncé, saying that he is “always in awe of her talent.” Well, in 2013 his wish finally came true. The duo released “Mine” to widespread critical acclaim; and shortly thereafter Drake dropped “Girls Love Beyoncé” on the world; a song that not only sings the artist’s praises but also samples from the Destiny’s Child hit “Say My Name”. Talk about real recognizing real.

#9: He Can Make Fun of Himself

Few artists can pull of self-deprecating humor quite like Drizzy. The Canadian star has shown on multiple occasions that he has no problem being the butt of the joke. From re-tweeting “Hotline Bling” spoofs, to appearing on multiple episodes of “Saturday Night Live” in a variety of goofy costumes, Drake always finds a way to get in on the joke. Look no further than the opening skit from the 2014 ESPYs, in which he and NBA star Blake Griffin spend the better part of four minutes playfully ripping into each other’s public personas. Hilarious!

#8: His Lyrics Resonate

Drake’s been a mainstay in the hip-hop world for over a decade, and you don’t manage to stick around that long unless your lyrics are hitting home. Drake’s proven on numerous occasions that he isn’t afraid to lay bare his soul, as proven with lyrics like “Just like you, I get lonely too” and “My biggest fear is losing it all.” One minute he can have you bobbing your head with tracks like “Started From the Bottom” and “Know Yourself,” and the next he’ll have you shedding a tear over your ex, with a song like “Doing It Wrong”.

#7: He’s the Throwback King of Instagram

Few celebrities are as in love with their childhood selves as Drake appears to be. He regularly uploads images of himself from his younger years on his various social media accounts, and people freaking love it. Take a look at these photos and tell us that young Drake isn’t the most adorable kid you’ve ever seen. The photos provide a window into the formative life of one of the world’s biggest stars, and demonstrate that even an international rap star once rocked oversized glasses and made posters for his Bar Mitzvah. If that doesn’t make someone relatable, we don’t know what will.

#6: He Adores His Momma

According to Drake, the most important person in his life is his mother. And while a lot of people probably feel that way about their own moms, Drake takes it to another level. His songs regularly feature lyrics inspired by, or directly referencing his mom; and when he released “You & The 6,” he dedicated it to her. They duo regularly attend basketball games, awards shows and other red carpet events together, and after Drizzy won Best Rap Album at the Grammys, he gave the award to her. Guys who show love for the women who raised them will always have our respect.

#5: His Smile

Drake’s smile is on a whole other level. Seriously. When the guy opens his mouth and flashes that brilliant set of pearly whites, our hearts speed up. There’s just something about it that says, “don’t worry, everything is going to be alright.” Whether he’s goofing around, laughing at some unseen joke, or genuinely happy about something, his smile is never far away. Simply put, it’s contagious. If someone ever finds a way to bottle the feeling that accompanies seeing Drake smile, that person is going to make a lot of money. You heard it here first, people.

#4: He Drops Music on Us out of the Blue

Drake has a reputation for being a musical shape-shifter; you never know what he’s going to do next. A prime example is “If You're Reading This It's Too Late”, Drake’s wildly successful 2015 mix tape that he released without any fanfare or any prior announcements. He doubled down later in the year and released another surprise mixtape with Future titled “What a Time to Be Alive”. Drake has always managed to stay one step ahead of fans, and continues to drop innovative music that keeps the industry on its toes.

#3: He’s Humble

Not only is Drake not shy when it comes to discussing his time on the Canadian teen drama series “Degrassi: The Next Generation” he actively embraces it. Drake appeared in eight seasons of the show, playing Jimmy, a basketball player who later becomes paralyzed. Drake is, without a doubt, the cast member to have achieved the most post-“Degrassi” fame, but it hasn’t gone to his head. He remains friends with many of his former cast members and even popped up at a reunion a few years back. As the old adage goes, never forget where you came from.

#2: He Passionately Reps Toronto

Anyone whose followed Drake’s career knows that he’s a Toronto boy through and through. While many rappers are known for giving their hometown a shout out from time to time Drake has linked himself with Canada’s biggest city in a way few others have. He regularly references “the 6”, his nickname for Toronto, in his songs; and on the cover art of his 2016 album “Views,” he appears sitting atop the city’s most identifiable landmark, the CN Tower. He currently serves as the global ambassador for the Toronto Raptors, and can often be seen cheering them on from the sidelines.

#1: His Dance Moves

Drake is known for a lot of things, but dancing isn’t one of them. With that being said, we still think his moves are pretty sweet, in a “aw look how hard he’s trying” kind of way. His “Hotline Bling” music video galvanized the Internet when it was released in 2015 thanks to his…unconventional dance routine. And while many were quick to roast him with a plethora of admittedly on-point gifs and memes, he didn’t take it too seriously; and that just made us love him more. Drake, dance your heart out. We got your back!
