Top 10 Songs on Bear in the Big Blue House
#10: “The Otter Dancing School”
Everyone can benefit from a dancing lesson led by these two! In the episode “Dancin’ the Day Away,” Tutter the mouse admits that he doesn’t know how to dance. When the pair of otters, Pip and Pop, learn this, they immediately decide to teach him a thing or two. The upbeat, hip-hop rhythm of this rap is impossible not to bop along to–no matter how old you are! And, as a kid, you no doubt felt right there in the action of the episode with this catchy head-nodder! We bet you’re “doing the otter” right now!
#9: “Beauty of the Night”
Sometimes we need a classic kids’ show to remind us to appreciate the majesty of nature. Especially when that reminder is sung to us by Luna and Bear! While we usually only see Luna at the very end of episodes of “Bear in the Big Blue House,” this one puts her front and center. The harmonies between these two characters sound beautiful, which is an element that can be enjoyed even more as an adult. The lyrics and melody are both so calming that you can ditch your night time podcast–this will do the trick!
#8: “Clean Up the House”
You can’t have a childrens’ series without a good, old fashioned clean up song. To be honest, we probably need this motivation to tidy up now as adults more than ever. This song is performed by the ensemble of “Bear in the Big Blue House” in multiple episodes across the series. Having all the characters work together makes for a great number, and also certainly makes it easier for them to get the house clean. If only we could all call on this crew to help us tidy up our messes in real life–they know how to make it fun!
#7: “Oops! I Goofed Again”
Everybody makes mistakes! Not only does this song provide the message that it’s okay to mess up, it also has a super catchy blues tune. If you weren’t paying close attention to the lyrics (or the playful sound effects), you may not have even realized that it was from a kids show. Plus, Bear’s scatting is pretty impressive! If he wasn’t a puppet of a woodland animal, he would likely have a record label! But, hey, being the voice of the title character of your own TV show isn’t too bad either.
#6: “What Kind of Mouse Am I?”
Move over, Adele! From now on, we only want our heartfelt ballads sung by a mouse. This song comes from the episode “It’s All About You,” in which Tutter struggles to figure out what makes him different from everyone else. Through this number with Bear, Tutter learns just how special he truly is. The message is great, but the song is even better! Tutter’s higher pitch against Bear’s lower one makes for a really nice duet and a rather moving one, at that! Who knew the cure to an identity crisis was an emotional musical number?
#5: “Shadow’s Lullaby”
Is anyone else getting sleepy? This folksy lullaby is so well performed, it really sounds like something you’d hear on the radio! Shadow sings this song twice throughout the series, as she describes what happens to shadows after the sun has set. Similarly to some of the others from this list, the arrangement and harmonies here are extremely impressive. Fun fact: the voice actor for Shadow, Tara Mooney, actually found her way into fashion after her stint on “Bear in the Big Blue House”. We’re just glad she shared her vocal talents with us at all!
#4: “Good Morning”
What’s a better way to start the day than with the actual sun bidding you a good morning? This duet between the sun, Ray, and Bear is a perfect pick-me-up. This is one of the simpler songs from the show, but it’s both incredibly catchy and incredibly memorable. Ray is only seen once in a while throughout the series but his appearances are always bright and cheery which, admittedly, is pretty fitting for his character. If we got to chat with him each day like Bear, mornings would be a breeze!
#3: “Welcome to the Blue House”
You couldn’t compile a list of the best “Bear in the Big Blue House” songs without its iconic intro. This jazzy tune sets the tone for the entire series–literally! We get to hear from all of our favorite characters from Woodland Valley: Bear, Tutter, Treelo, Ojo, and more. Of the many toe-tapping TV show theme songs from our childhood, this one just be one of the best. It’s upbeat and fun, and we can watch Bear do his cute little dance all day long. Do you think they do short term rentals on the big blue house? Asking for a friend who desperately wants to visit.
#2: “The Bear Cha-Cha-Cha”
Try listening to this one without it getting stuck in your head… It’s impossible! This song will have anyone up on their feet and dancing, you don’t have to be a kid–or a bear–to enjoy it. The rhythm has an infectious flair that was designed to be cha-cha’d to. This number was so popular at the time, Bear even made an appearance on the “Donny & Marie” talk show to perform it! Next time you’re at a party, we suggest you request this song. (Of course, they’ll know it, what are you talking about?)
#1: “Goodbye Song”
If any of the other songs from this list didn’t spark your nostalgia, this one definitely will. At the end of each episode of the series, Bear and Luna would perform this farewell duet. As they sung with one another, short clips from throughout the episode would play to remind the audience of what they’d learned. Once again, the harmony between Bear and Luna is pitch perfect. Revisiting this show and its music is such a joy. Here’s your official reminder that you’re never too old to sing and dance along!
