Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Things We Know-Now-That-Will-Impact-MCUs-Phase-5. For this list, we’ll be looking at the most notable events, characters and plot points that have appeared in the last two years that will have huge impacts in the next era of Marvel. If you haven’t seen every Marvel project through the “Guardians” holiday special, beware of spoilers. Which character do you want to join the Avengers in phase 5? Let us know in the comments!

#10: Tons of Young Avengers

Throughout phase 4, fans were introduced to a wide variety of powerful young people…who still need to work out some issues. America Chavez has to work on using her reality punching powers in battle. Hulk’s son Skarr needs to familiarize himself with Earth culture and a good barber before he can hang with others. And while Thor’s adopted daughter Love is mighty enough to wield Stormbreaker, she’s got some growing up to do before she becomes a reliable hero. Whether they’re ready or not, it’s almost a guarantee these young heroes will be called upon to help save the day. If they need a leader, Kate Bishop is primed to use what she learned from Hawkeye and get the Young Avengers ready to assemble.

#9: Dane Whitman’s Ebony Blade

Although professor Dane Whitman couldn’t help his girlfriend Sersi fight deviants or other Eternals, he might become a lot more useful in a fight soon. After his love is stolen from earth, he decides to pick up the ebony blade. This powerful weapon has almost too many abilities to keep track of. It could slice through the hardest metals on earth, make you virtually immortal, be summoned to your hand instantly and more. The ebony blade also tends to have the nasty side effect of turning you evil over time. By choosing to wield this weapon, Dane will become a powerful warrior that could assist the Avengers in future fights. But he also risks becoming one of their most dangerous enemies.

#8: A New Cap Chooses Who Leads the Avengers

There was no question who led earth’s mightiest heroes when Steve was still around. Now that he’s gone, it’s become extremely unclear as to who’s calling the shots. However, Sam Wilson has risen to a position where he can make that call in phase 5. He could stick to tradition and accept the responsibility of leading the team. On the other hand, Sam could step aside and endorse a completely different hero to take charge. We saw how bad things can get for the world when the Avengers are disassembled and disorganized. So, it’s unlikely they’ll leave the leadership spot vacant for much longer. Whether Sam chooses to step up or nominates someone else, the newest leader will shape the future of Earth’s mightiest heroes.

#7: The Secret of Shang Chi’s Rings

When a man named Wenwu discovered powerful rings, he harnessed their power to conquer armies and live over a thousand years. But he didn’t uncover where they came from. Shortly after his son Shang-Chi inherits the rings, it’s revealed that they’re a lot older than Wenwu was. Since the ancient weapons look similar to something the very old Eternal Phastos would use, many fans assumed there’s a connection. Phase 5 could link the two seemingly separate heroes together. Even if the rings aren’t an Eternal creation, we’ll get an answer because they sent out a beacon to someone. We’re positive whoever has the skills and power to make them will make a huge impact when they answer the call.

#6: White Vision’s Quest for Answers

While Wanda was busy recreating Vision with memories and magic, the government agency S.W.O.R.D. rebuilt the original robot and programmed him to be obedient. The two synthezoids initially faced off in an intense battle. However, after breaking the ice with a little philosophy, the rebuilt White Vision realized he was being used and asked to get his memories restored. What the resurrected Avenger does next will be covered in the upcoming series “VisionQuest”. During the show, will he try to reconnect with the Avengers he once knew? Or will he try to start an entirely new life away from the superhero business? Time will tell if the Avengers will lose or regain their Vision again.

#5: Valentina’s Team Building Skills

Everyone’s favorite MCU countess seemed to spend most of phase 4 collecting enhanced fighters like they were Pokémon. At this point, we know she’s recruited Yelena and U.S. Agent to help her solve problems. But reports about future projects confirmed that was just the beginning. The Winter soldier, Red Guardian, Taskmaster and Ghost will all join her Thunderbolts team. And there’s no indication that she’ll stop there. Valentina could convince other people like Echo to join or replace a fallen member. While it’s unclear what exactly she plans to do with all these talented fighters, a strong team like this is bound to get things done. Could the Thunderbolts become more popular than the Avengers in phase 5?

#4: Daredevil’s Full Backstory

Three years after “Daredevil” ended on Netflix, Matt Murdock returned to the MCU in two separate projects. While we were happy to see him, we were still confused as to what his story was. “She-Hulk” confirmed Matt’s been operating as a hero for a while. However, that statement doesn’t necessarily mean the events of his show or spin offs like “Defenders” took place in the MCU. Clearing up the mystery of Daredevil’s past will answer questions for fans in the future. As one example, if Matt tells stories about “Punisher” that line up with his series, Jon Bernthal could return to the MCU with his backstory intact too. The history of the shared universe can be altered by Daredevil saying what is or isn’t canon.

#3: The Rise of Mutants

Shortly after it was revealed that Ms. Marvel was a mutant, more of these superpowered beings started coming out of the woodwork. The most notable one to make a splash since was the undersea king Namor. And we doubt the MCU will leave it at 2. Throughout phase 5, we expect to see a lot more mutants. They could come from live-action or even animated universes. And there’s always the chance that big time mutants were just keeping a low profile in the MCU for years. No matter where they come from, we anticipate these superpowered beings will reach out to each other soon. By the time Deadpool’s movie drops, he may have a team of mutants waiting for him in the MCU.

#2: Incursion Events

We knew nothing would be the same again after Mr. Fantastic told Dr. Strange about Incursion events. The explanation of the phenomenon hinted Earth-616 was in a whole lot of danger. As further confirmation, the magical warrior Clea let Strange know at least one Incursion was coming. If the phase 6 “Secret Wars” films mirrors a comic event, then we’ll see this terrible event take place on screen in just a few years. This means that phase 5 will likely drop big or small hints that planetary destruction is imminent. Additionally, we might see Dr. Strange or Clea pop up in movies or shows while trying to prevent the Incursion from happening. The dark shadow of this event will loom heavily over phase 5.

#1: Opening the Multiverse for Kang

Thanks to the multiverse being opened in Loki, positive characters like America Chavez stepped onto Earth-616. But that significant event also paved the way for one or more sinister Kang the Conquerors to cause trouble on every earth. A variant of this villain will definitely meet Ant-Man in phase 5. Early reports have indicated that the Kang Scott Lang meets in the Quantum Realm has killed Avengers in the past. If he gets out of that tiny universe, there’s no telling how many more heroes he’ll slay across the multiverse. Kang is clearly being set up to be Earth-616’s next big bad. But if he causes enough mayhem across the multiverse, he might be the last villain the world sees before everything is destroyed.
