We’ve all been there – you’re out and about minding your own business when you see someone you just really don’t want to see. Set to Dua Lipa’s catchy tune ‘Don’t Start Now,’ the ‘Full 180’ dance challenge blew up on TikTok out of sheer relatability. TikTok user @isaac_tuazon kickstarted the challenge in his hilarious enactment of seeing a classmate at the mall, doing a ‘full 180,’ and stealthily walking away to avoid them. This eagerness for avoidance hit close to home for many creators, inspiring them to act out other relatable situations like spotting your friend’s ex, seeing your teacher at the grocery store, and debating whether to get your wrong Starbucks order fixed.

#9: Holy Moly Donut Shop

Originally popularized on other short-form social video apps like Dubsmash, the ‘Holy Moly Donut Shop’ challenge caught on quickly in the TikTok dance community. Blueface’s track ‘Holy Moly,’ features a sample from the 2002 film ‘Friday After Next,’ before transitioning to a hard-hitting beat. This abrupt switch-up in tone makes the track perfect for playful choreography, which TikTokers have replicated in over 1 million videos. The popularity of this challenge has found its way to the mainstream, with owners of a Milwaukee donut shop of the same name catching on to the craze and riding the viral wave by making its own video as part of the challenge. The impact of TikTok fame knows no bounds!

Chances are you’ll recognize the distinct window-wiping sound effect in the intro to Roddy Ricch’s ‘The Box.’ TikToker @jaywill4real based his comedy video off of the memorable sound, participating in the TikTok meme trend parodying how songs are conceived. When TikTok sensation Charli D’Amelio jumped on the trend and choreographed a groovy routine to the bop, a dance challenge took over the app. Seems that TikTokers just couldn’t get the track’s distinct squeaking sound out of their heads, as countless users flocked to their phones to replicate D’Amelio’s energetic choreography or act out more hilarious meme videos. The hype created from this swarm of content extended beyond the app, helping to bump up the up-and-coming rapper’s song to number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

#6: “Cannibal”

If you don’t recognize it, Kesha’s 2010 song ‘Cannibal’ sounds just like what you would expect from the artist’s party-animal era – playful, provocative, and just a little messy. TikToker Briana Hantsch (@ya.girl.bri.bri97) revived the artist’s wild roots through quirky choreography set to the suggestive song. Her moves act out the song’s unique lyrics, kicking off the routine by mimicking eating out of a bowl to the lyrics ‘I’ll eat you up’. Kesha caught on to her song’s renaissance and made her own ‘duet’ video alongside ultra-popular Charli D’Amelio, and released a lyric video amidst the hype.

We all know TikTokers love a bop with a catchy beat to dance to and Doja Cat’s R&B bop ‘Like That’ fits the bill with its upbeat groovy vibe. TikTok wonder Charli D’Amelio spotted the potential for the track to go viral and created a fun and easy dance routine to go along with it. Incorporating moves that anyone could do, like the simple ‘rolling hands,’ and a repetitive sequence, this challenge is an easy way for TikTok creators of any level to showcase their spunky attitude.

#4: “Obsessed”

Set to the eternally iconic chorus of Mariah Carey’s ‘Obsessed,’ TikTok user @reesehardy’s video shows her crying and dejectedly dancing along. With no context or explanation, her video was just bizarre enough to be totally and hilariously relatable. It was instantly meme-afied and paired with funny captions, but it didn’t take long before TikTokers were recreating Hardy’s easy-to-master routine at the masses. Though no tears were involved in TikToker’s recreations, they added their own creative twists replicating Hardy’s moves by themselves or with their friends. The Songbird Supreme noticed the new-found hype surrounding her 2009 track and participated in the challenge herself when her car broke down on the way to Camp Mariah.

#3: “Old Town Road”

Lil Nas X and his banger ‘Old Town Road’ seemed to have blown up out of nowhere, but fans will know it all started on TikTok. Familiar with the workings of social media, the country-trap star uploaded the song on TikTok more than a year after it was independently released - and before you knew it, the ‘Yee Haw Challenge’ was taking the app by storm. Created by @nicemicahel, the challenge shows TikTokers transforming from ordinary clothing to fully decked-out cowboy gear, and dancing along to ‘Old Town Road’s’ catchy hook. Coming out right when everything cowboy was taking over the internet, the challenge was bound to take off in a big way. Reaching No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the smash hit’s quick rise in popularity attests to TikTok’s far-reaching influence.

#2: “Say So”

It seems that Doja Cat is truly taking TikTok by storm as another one of her sugary sweet bops sets off a viral dance challenge. TikTok creator @yodellinghaley choreographed a dance to Doja Cat’s track ‘Say So,’ playfully mentioning in her caption that she would love to be in one of her music videos. TikTokers began replicating her choreography by the masses, nailing the ‘punch and roll’ move as Doja Cat croons along. With stars like Youtuber James Charles and actress Laura Dern creating videos as part of the challenge, it was simply impossible for Doja Cat to ignore it – the young TikToker’s dream turned into a reality as her and her choreography was featured in the music video to the track. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. “Spooky Scary Skeletons” “The Git Up” “Savage” Baby Come Give Me Something The Smeeze

#1: Renegade

You’ve seen everyone from actress Bella Thorne to YouTuber David Dobrik replicating the now-famous dance routine set to K Camp’s ‘Lottery’. Though the creator of the challenge, Jalaiah Harmon was previously uncredited for her viral choreography, she has thankfully since been recognized for her talent, appearing on Ellen and an NBA game to perform. The ultra talented teen initially posted it to Funimate, then to Instagram, before it was posted to TikTok where it broke out into mainstream culture. Including all the zeitgeist’s trendiest moves – the dab, the woah, and the wave – the challenge had millions of people participating in the coolest dance challenge yet.
