Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Times Cartoon Characters Went Beast Mode. For this list, we’ll be looking at the best times where our favorite toons became unstoppable. We’ll save anime, theatrically released features, made for tv films and superheroes for their own lists. And watch out for a spoiler or two. What was your favorite beast mode moment from an animated tv show? Let us know in the comments.

#10: Patrick Wants Love

“ SpongeBob SquarePants” (1999-)

Patrick Star isn’t exactly the kind of character one expects to go beast mode. He’s not aggressive, he goofs off with SpongeBob SquarePants, and he’s not the smartest citizen in Bikini Bottom. But another side of Patrick comes out on “Valentine's Day” when he thinks his best friend failed to give him a real gift. While everyone else thanks SpongeBob for his generous Valentines, Patrick loses it. He starts attacking things at the holiday carnival with more rage than anyone thought possible, destroying hearts everywhere. As in, literal hearts. He chases SpongeBob and other carnival goers to the dock. They are only saved by the arrival of the gift that had been intended for Patrick all along.

#9: Perry the Platypus vs the Doofapus

“Phineas and Ferb” (2007-)

One of the things you should know about Dr. Doofenshmirtz from “Phineas and Ferb” is that he never has a chance against Secret Agent, Perry the Platypus. Once the pet puts on that hat and becomes Agent P, the bad guy’s plans are bound to fail. While the cartoon is mostly about the summertime adventures of the title characters, arguably these frenemies steal the show. Perry and Dr. D give viewers one fun fight when the scientist becomes the Doofapus. By transforming himself into a beast, or more specifically, a platypus, the villain becomes Perry’s equal. Their epic martial arts inspired fight was fun to watch. Eventually, Agent P gets the upper hand by taking advantage of an opening to win.

#8: Zoidberg Takes Down Bender

“Futurama” (1999 –)

How did a goober like Dr. Zoidberg achieve a beast mode moment? Well, apparently, there's potential under all that dopiness. Bender uses Professor Farnsworth’s "What If" Machine to find out what would happen if he was 500 feet tall. Unsurprisingly, the answer is, “destroy things”. This causes Farnsworth to turn his Enlarging Ray on Zoidberg to try to stop Bender. The monster-sized Doctor and Bender caused tons of collateral damage. Just when it looks like Bender tricked Zoidberg into getting boiled, the lobster alien strikes one last blow. He uses his claws to take the robot down and impale the abrasive tin can on the Empire State Building. It’s nice to see Zoidberg get such a decisive win.

#7: Tweety Unleashes the Beast

“Hyde and Go Tweet” (1960)

Tweety Bird and Sylvester the Cat are classic “Looney Tunes'' archenemies. Typically, the prey escapes the predator using cunning and cuteness. But one moment showed an entirely different side of the canary. When Tweety bathed in Dr. Hyde’s classic monster-making formula, he changed into a terrifying and gigantic version of himself. The rest of the short shows him transforming back and forth to torment the would-be predator. When Sylvester catches the canary in his regular form, he’s sure he’ll finally have the sandwich of his dreams. But when Tweety becomes a monster one last time, it’s the cat who narrowly escapes.

#6: Darth Sidious Decimates Maul & Savage Opress

“Star Wars: The Clone Wars” (2008-20)

When Darth Maul takes the throne of Mandalore in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”, he gets the attention of his former master Darth Sidious. The Sith Lord arrives ready to fight. He takes on both Maul and his brother Savage Opress right away. The villain wields two lightsabers with ease so that he can match the brothers blow for blow. After an impressive opening, Sidious takes out Savage by running him through with two weapons. Maul’s use of a Darksaber and a regular lightsaber allow him to hold his own for a moment. But in the end, Sidious proves unbeatable. When Maul begs for Mercy, his older master gives him none.

#5: Wendy Testaburger Destroys Eric Cartman

“South Park” (1997- )

“South Park’s” Eric Cartman is a jerk people love to hate. That means it's pretty satisfying to see him get his comeuppance. This is exactly what happens when Cartman won’t stop heckling Wendy Testaburger for raising awareness about breast cancer. At first, Eric manipulates Wendy so she doesn’t pummel him into oblivion. But a conversation with the principal convinces her that Eric is an evil that must be destroyed. And destroy she does. She knocks his pants off, pushes him into the mud, and all around wipes the floor with him. He ends the fight in need of a doctor and a dentist. She walks away a hero, knowing she gave the tiny terror a true beat down.

#4: Rick Wipes Out the Citadel of Ricks

“Rick and Morty” (2013-)

One could argue that “Rick and Morty’s” Rick Sanchez embodies beast mode. In one of his most impressive feats, the smartest guy in the universe finds himself against numerous versions of himself. And he beats them all. The carnage begins when the scientist transfers his consciousness to several evil Galactic Federation agents. After ruining their days, he goes into the bodies of multiple other Ricks. While in a shiny new shell, the original Sanchez brings the Citadel of Ricks right to the Federation. Since fighting breaks out, the two enemy factions take each other out. Rick ends by rescuing his grandkids with a clever ruse. While he started off as a prisoner, it turns out he was steps ahead of everyone else the entire time.

#3: Lucky Donald Duck

“DuckTales” (2017-21)

In the “DuckTales” reboot, Donald finds himself pitted against his supernaturally fortunate cousin Gladstone Gander. A villain-of-the-week Liu Hai decides to use the duck’s good luck for himself. The antagonist then lures Scrooge and the family into Liu Hai’s casino to hatch a scheme to get Uncle Scrooge’s riches. The winner of a race will get to walk away victorious. At one point, Donald almost gives up. But Louie reminds the elder duck that he doesn’t do that. That’s when Donald truly entered beast mode and angrily took on obstacle after obstacle. While Gladstone gets distracted by some money, an in-the-zone Donald gets the victory.

#2: Peter Griffin vs. Homer Simpson

“Family Guy” (1999-)

When these two iconic cartoon dads from “Family Guy” and “The Simpsons” faced-off, both of them reached new levels of violent absurdity. They fight in a rolling bus and crash through the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. After that warm up, they fall into nuclear waste and gain abilities that would fit right into a superhero movie. As they fight with more power than they’ve ever had, the show packs in tons of Easter Eggs and callbacks. This epic clash was wonderfully animated and carried a real sense of weight and momentum. We’d love to see these two team up again so that we can get another unforgettable scene.

#1: Aang Overwhelms Ozai

Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005-08)

This was the battle that fans waited for a whole series to see. Aang starts the climactic clash while he’s locked out of his powerful Avatar State. Despite the bad odds, he faces a comet enhanced Firelord. As they duel, the villain accidentally sends Aang careening into a rock. The impact enables him to enter the Avatar state again. Suddenly it’s a much different fight. Aang stuns the villain with impressive displays of bending and otherworldly strength. He becomes so powerful that Ozai stops trying to fight and completely goes on the defensive. In the end, the Phoenix King realized that all the power in the world couldn’t stand up to a fully realized avatar state.
