Top 10 Times Robot Chicken Made Fun of Video Games

Top 10 Times Robot Chicken Made Fun of Video Games
VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton WRITTEN BY: Biswajit Guha
It's always funny when "Robot Chicken" makes fun of video games. Our countdown includes "Rescuing Zelda," "Halo Kong," "Final Fantasy Burger Chain," and more!

#10: "Medic" "Choked on Multi-Colored Scarves"

Who would you pick while playing the multiplayer first-person shooter, “Team Fortress 2?” The Soldier, the Heavy, the Medic or… the Nerd from “Robot Chicken?” Armed with allergies and an annoying voice, the Nerd makes his way across the map exactly how you'd expect. After narrowly escaping an explosion, he runs towards the Medic for assistance, specifically emotional assistance. The Medic sits through the ramblings of the Nerd before indulging in some friendly fire. We're just surprised that the maniacal Medic took that long to do it. Here's a fun fact, a 'genuine' in-game “Robot Chicken” hat was awarded to players who had signed up for the Adult Swim newsletter.

#9: "Humping Robot for Wii Fit!" "Unionizing Our Labor"

Wii Fit is an exercise game that aims to get you in shape the more you play it. “Humping Robot for Wii Fit” is “Robot Chicken's” attempt at making that game more interesting the only way they know how. A kid starts playing and it only takes a few moments before his whole family joins in. A priest walks by the house and sees this unfold. Apparently, a family air humping each other is not a pretty sight. He takes it upon himself to put a stop to this with matches and gasoline. Luckily, the game is too alluring and he joins them in full thrust.

#8: "Halo Kong" "The Sack"

When we think of “Halo,” we think of supersoldiers in armored suits who get the job done. That's exactly what happens in this sketch where soldiers from the Halo series replace Mario in the “Donkey Kong” arcade game. By replace, we mean snap his neck. They don't even deal with Donkey Kong head-on. Some well-placed explosives do the trick. Everything about this sketch screams tactical efficiency, from rescuing the Pauline via grappling hook, to making sure Donkey Kong stays down with a bullet to the head, and even swinging back to extinguish a potentially deadly tiny fire. All that's missing is the classic “Halo” theme to accompany it.

#7: "Rescuing Zelda" "Shoe"

A villain kidnaps a princess, a brave warrior fights that villain and then rescues the princess. It's been done so many times that even Princess Zelda is kinda 'meh' about it. In this sketch, Link defeats Ganondorf and expects to be “rewarded,” but Zelda isn't having it and she makes that very clear. After several futile pleas, Link finds that this is the eight time Zelda has been rescued and she's totally over it. In the end, Zelda offers him some rupees for his troubles and Link decides to take the solo route with his needs.

#6: "Dance Dance Counter-Revolution" "Celebrity Rocket"

Top 10 Dance Performances on Dancing with the Stars

A silly play on words, but it works so well. The popular music and dancing game, “Dance Dance Revolution,” takes center stage in this sketch. Someone tries to beat the high score of Fidel Castro, the former President of Cuba, and it leads to a “Dance Dance Counter-Revolution.” The two have a dance-off with exhaustingly exciting moves. Each time the challenger gets a combo, Castro one-ups him. Towards the end, the scores are tied but Castro gets the win with a double backflip. Sadly, the revolution was not enough to beat him.

#5: "Space Invaders" "Suck It"

Ever wondered why the aliens in the arcade shooter, “Space Invaders,” slowly inch towards the player instead of just rushing in? Well, the people at “Robot Chicken” certainly did. The sketch starts out with some casual banter between two aliens while they suffer heavy casualties. The duo also criticizes a UFO that flies above them and does nothing to help. After worrying about their own safety and their families, they share a tender moment before dashing towards the enemy and destroying them. They even have a cheeky reference at the end to “War of the Worlds.”

#4: "Mortal Kombat Physical Therapy" "1987"

You can expect lots of back-breaking, limb-ripping, and all-around gory gameplay when you play “Mortal Kombat.” But what happens after the FATALITY? This “Robot Chicken” sketch takes a look at one of the mainstays of the game, the larger-than-life Johnny Cage. He gets his heart ripped out, literally. Johnny has to undergo several surgeries to save his life, as well as extensive physical therapy to get back to the way things were, pre-fatality. It is inspiring to see him overcome adversity and regain all that he had lost. It's so moving that his previous opponent asks how he's doing… before he rips his heart out again in the rematch.

#3: "Sushi Rolls" "Poisoned by Relatives"

Recovering from a fighting tournament is difficult, but have you ever tried organizing one? Ryu from the “Street Fighter” series has a tough time making sure the tournament goes smoothly. The problem is that no one reads his painstakingly prepared packages which outline all the fights, the rules, the venues, and basically everything the fighters need to know but don't. This leads to lots of misunderstandings and some genital, sorry, general unease. It's hilarious to see that every fighter ignored their package except for M. Bison, who received someone else's and ended up in another game.

#2: "Final Fantasy Burger Chain" "Rodiggiti"

Top 10 Worst Final Seasons of TV Shows

We wish this sketch of “Final Fantasy 7” characters working at a fast-food chain was a whole series, but we'll just have to settle for a minute and thirty seconds of it. Cloud, the protagonist of the game, tackles the lunch rush like a typical RPG. He uses turn-based attacks like slashing potatoes with his Buster Sword to make french fries and then he levels up right after. Things really heat up when the manager and the antagonist of the game, Sephiroth, ask Cloud to work on a Saturday. If Cloud's other turn-based attacks don't have you in stitches, the 'burger version' of Sephiroth's theme will. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. "The Origin of Angry Bird," "Hemlock, Gin and Juice" Find Out Why Birds of a Feather Get Furious Together "Minecraft," "Joel Hurwitz" We Said "the Nether," Not "the Nether Regions" "Excitebike," "Bionic Cow" How About Less "Excitebike" & More "Medical Attentionbike"? "Candy Crush Saga: The Movie," "El Skeletorito" Addictive Treats & Addictive Gameplay? What's Not to Love? "Mario Meets Parents," "The Departy Monster" It's Going to Get Awkward… Let's-a Go!

#1: "Grand Theft Mario" "Lust for Puppets"

A slight detour? What's the worst that could happen? One of the bridges in the Mushroom Kingdom is under construction, so Mario and Luigi end up driving through Vice City from the “Grand Theft Auto” series. Everything starts escalating once Luigi crushes a girl's turtle, thinking it was a Koopa Troopa. What sends the brothers off the edge is Mario consuming real-world mushrooms that you don't add to your salad. After rampaging through the streets like most “GTA” players, Mario has a stand-off with the law and gets gunned down along with his brother. Mamma mia that got dark, but not as dark as Yoshi’s visit to Raccoon City.
