Top 20 Times Robot Chicken Made Fun of Star Wars

Top 20 Times Robot Chicken Made Fun of Star Wars
VOICE OVER: Ryan Wild WRITTEN BY: Garrett Alden
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away (well, not really), "Robot Chicken" made fun of "Star Wars." Our countdown includes Boba's Back, Palpatine's trip, Jedi Master George W., and more!

#20: The Farce Awokens “Mr. Mozzarellas Hamburger Skateboard Depot”

Also in:

Top 10 Times Robot Chicken Made Fun of Anime

Most of Robot Chicken’s “Star Wars” parodies tend to lampoon specific moments or characters, as we’ll soon see. They don’t generally parody entire movies… that’s more Family Guy’s bag. However, this sketch sees the recurring Nerd character inserted into the plot of “The Force Awakens” as BB-8. The Nerd’s constant commentary on events is hilarious, and some of it actually proves surprisingly accurate. Did he call the Palpatine connection before anyone else? Full of meta humor, and sarcastic jabs at the issues with the film, “The Farce Awokens” is probably how most fans would act in the same situation. And…wipe!

#19: Inner Monologues “Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode III”

Also in:

Top 10 Times Robot Chicken Made Fun of Marvel

The innermost thoughts of “Star Wars” characters are usually not something we get to see in the movies themselves. During the pivotal scene in “Return of the Jedi” where the Emperor is shocking Luke Skywalker with lightning, “Robot Chicken” gives us insight into both of their thoughts—as well as Darth Vader’s. It all culminates in two of their inner monologues centering on the hysterically mistaken impression that Vader is going to try to kiss Palpatine. The contrast between the trio’s different lines of thought is hilarious—as are all the bizarre tangents they all take. Why doesn’t anyone say wizard anymore?

#18: Lobot! “Robot Chicken: Star Wars”

One of the best things “Robot Chicken” does with “Star Wars” characters is to take minor ones and turn them into meme-worthy jokes. One such case is Lobot, Lando Calrissian’s cyborg assistant. Although Lobot’s cyborg implants serve several purposes, “Robot Chicken” took the fact that they look like headphones and ran with the idea. In this short scene, Lobot dances around a Cloud City hallway to Meco’s disco version of the “Star Wars” theme. It’s not very long, but it’s incredibly memorable and we (and Adult Swim) love to watch it on loop. Lobot’s got moves, ya’ll!

#17: Dr. Ball, M.D. “Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II”

Also in:

Top 10 Times Robot Chicken Made Fun of Video Games

Even minor droids get their chance to shine. When Vader instructs what looks like a torture droid to get Princess Leia to reveal the location of the rebel base, the droid objects, claiming to be a doctor. After channeling Dr. McCoy from “Star Trek,” the medical ball then gets a ‘70s style TV intro for “Dr. Ball, M.D.” The stylish opening is paired with several scenes of Dr. Ball lecturing other characters’ on medical practices in the “Star Wars” universe. His critique of Padme’s doctors is particularly funny. [“She’s lost the will to live?! What, is your degree in poetry?!”] Is it weird that we’d watch this show?

#16: All the Garbage Mashers “Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II”

Also in:

Top 10 Times Robot Chicken Roasted Kids Shows

“A New Hope” contains arguably the most famous garbage compactor scene in all of cinema. “Robot Chicken” turns this tense scene from the Extended Version of the "Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II" special into an opportunity for comedy. When Luke tells C-3PO and R2-D2 to shut down all of the garbage mashers on the detention level, 3PO tells R2 to shut them all down. Unbeknownst to our heroes, they end up disrupting Darth Vader while he’s doing the dishes in his own quarters. After being unable to use his trash disposal, Vader laments that his sink is going to smell like fish. We gotta imagine Vader took his helmet off to eat that, right? Otherwise his helmet would smell fishy too…

#15: Sand Crawler “Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode III”

Losing your aunt and uncle can be rough, but Obi-Wan Kenobi helps Luke look on the bright side of the Force. C-3PO’s accidental murder of some Jawas makes him the new owner of an awesome sandcrawler. The two of them take it for a test drive in a scene parodying “Ferris Bueller's Day Off.” A song similar to the “Benny Hill” theme then kicks in as the pair zips around Tatooine, and the sketch is rounded out with a “Dukes of Hazzard”-type freeze frame as they leap over a canyon. If we had a huge SandCrawler, we’d probably take it for a joy ride, too. Utinni!

#14: Lego Star Wars “Robot Chicken Star Wars: Episode III”

Lando Calrissian may be the smoothest guy in the galaxy, but his betrayal of Han Solo and company at Cloud City still stings—even after he reveals a way for Leia and Chewbacca to save Han. In the original film, Chewie strangles Lando. In “Robot Chicken”’s Lego version, Lando’s head pops right off his body. Chewie reattaches it, but backwards. Although Lando is upset at first, he soon comes to appreciate the view of his own caboose he now has. It’s an absurd setup, but honestly… it fits with the character that Calrissian would enjoy checking out his own posterior. And it could be worse – Chewbacca could’ve torn his arms off!

#13: Death Star Yo Momma “Robot Chicken: Star Wars”

Also in:

Top 10 Funniest Our Flag Means Death Moments

Emperor Palpatine is known for his force lightning, but he also has a wicked tongue. The guy can throw some deadly shade! Sure enough, the heated words he and Luke exchange in this scene based on their confrontation in “Return of the Jedi” quickly leads to a “yo momma” fight. Both contestants get some solid burns in. However, Palpatine’s pun on “lightsaber” falls flat with the crowd. Personally, we think it’s pretty clever, but overexplaining it doesn’t help. Vader then throws the Emperor down the pit when he loses. Maybe Anakin couldn’t handle Palpatine talking about Padme like that anymore.

#12: Jar Jar Returns “Robot Chicken: Star Wars”

Also in:

These Robot Chicken Sketches Will ALWAYS Be Funny...

Jar Jar Binks is among the most hated “Star Wars” characters out there. But what if his ability to annoy is actually his superpower? This sketch posits what it would’ve been like if the Gungan ever met Darth Vader. Jar Jar immediately irritates Vader enough for him to throw the floppy-eared alien out the nearest airlock. Unfortunately for Vader, Jar Jar returns as a Force ghost to haunt him and shower him with love forever. Yay! From Jar Jar’s incessant babble, to Vader calling him “homie” and his “main man,” this is a hilarious sketch. And, credit to Ahmed Best: the guy actually returned to voice Jar Jar here! What a champ!

#11: Jedi Master George W. “Massage Chair”/ “Robot Chicken: Star Wars”

Also in:

Top 10 Jedi That Survived Order 66

In this sketch, then-president George W. Bush is given a curious diagnosis by his doctor – he’s a Jedi. “Robot Chicken”’s absurdly immature version of Dubya proceeds to enjoy his newfound powers way too much! Bush uses a Jedi mind trick on his wife, pranks Bill Clinton, and even duels Abraham Lincoln with lightsabers. It all turns out to be a dream in the end, but while it lasts, it’s a strange mashup that’s a ton of fun to watch. While we can’t say we’d do the same if we could use the force too, Dubya is right about one thing: [“Tacos rule.”]

#10: The Great Star Wars Episode VII Jitters Song “Victoria’s Secret of NIMH”

Produced before the release of “The Force Awakens,” this sketch sees the Nerd react with uncharacteristic melancholy at the prospect of its release. He launches into a song about how worried he is over what the content of Episode VII could include—listing all the different things the movie could screw up. These range from product placement to hairless Wookiees. Although the sequels disappointed many fans, they didn’t give us anything quite this outlandish. The Nerd then concludes his ballad on a more positive note, expressing how he believes the movie will improve his life and be the greatest thing ever. Not only is this a funny song, but it also acts as a microcosm of the stages of fan hype.

#9: Slight Weapons Malfunction “Robot Chicken: Star Wars”

While rescuing Princess Leia from the detention level on the Death Star, Han Solo famously gets into a conversation over the intercom with an Imperial officer. Han tries to awkwardly play off the weapons fire as a malfunction, before citing a fictional reactor leak as the reason no one should come to check. This sketch takes things further, by having Han commit fully to the reactor bit, leading to the call going all the way up the chain to Darth Vader, who orders a reactor built there when he can’t find it on the plans. It’s a great scene that builds on the comedy already present in the original moment and takes the awkwardness up to 11. Chewie could probably build that reactor, too!

#8: Death Star Orientation “Robot Chicken: Star Wars”

Also in:

Top 20 Brutal Fates Worse Than Death on Goosebumps

Darth Vader has a habit of strangling Imperial officers with the Force. This sketch, however, posits that he’s less deadly than he appears. An officer delivers the orientation speech on the Death Star, instructing new recruits to pretend to be strangled, so that Vader doesn’t kill them with his actually lethal lightsaber. The “strangled” Imperials are then dragged away, given a new uniform and fake mustache, and sent back to work. There’s even a guy who’s a veteran at the practice. As cool as the Force is, the idea that it’s all fake is pretty hilarious. Maybe Palpatine’s keeping Tesla coils up the sleeves of his big robes.

#7: Oh Vader, You’ve Done It Again “Ext. Forest – Day”

Also in:

Top 20 Robot Chicken Sketches of All Time

One of Darth Vader’s now most iconic scenes comes in “Rogue One”, when the Sith Lord decimates a hallway full of rebel troops in order to retrieve the plans to the Death Star. In this sketch, we see it mashed up with his other memorable scene from the movie – making a terrible pun while choking Director Krennic. In this version of the hallway attack, Vader kills each man while making an awful pun. It’s cringe humor and dark humor rolled into one. It’s too bad for Vader that he took too long being “clever” – because he might have gotten the plans back otherwise. Then again, he’s used to…coming up “short.”

#6: Palpatine’s Trip “Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II”

The forest moon of Endor isn’t exactly at the center of the Empire, so it’s a bit of a trek when the Emperor is called out to the second Death Star. This sketch sees Palpatine arrive and treat the experience like arriving in an airport. His tray table broke on the flight, he loses his luggage at the claim area and has to buy new clothes from the gift shop. His nifty swivel throne even winds directly beneath a vent. Unfortunately for him, his day gets a whole lot worse. “Robot Chicken” does an excellent job bringing the fantastical world of “Star Wars” back down to earth with relatable humor—and this sketch exemplifies that wonderfully.

#5: Take Your Daughter to Work Day “Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II”

Also in:

Top 10 Times Robot Chicken Went TOO FAR

Speaking of Earth, nothing says “office job” like “take your daughter to work day.” Except, in the “Star Wars” universe, we see Gary the Stormtrooper bring his daughter Jessica along with him to some decidedly dangerous assignments. First, Gary has her tag along for the iconic opening boarding scene, which sees him dodging blaster fire to retrieve her Teddy Bear, and then trying to explain her presence to Vader. However, it’s her chiming in about the droids he’s looking for that really makes Gary snap at Jessica. It’s a hysterical cross between typical work events and the extraordinarily dangerous life of a stormtrooper. Plus, watching Vader try to relate to a little girl while strangling a guy is amazing!

#4: Obi-Wan Takes the High Ground “Western Hay Batch”

Also in:

Top 10 Times South Park Made Fun of Disney

Obi-Wan Kenobi’s declaration that he’s already won against Anakin Skywalker because he “has the high ground” is something of a meme already. But “Robot Chicken” takes the oft-quoted line and really goes the distance with it. After cutting Anakin’s legs off, Obi-Wan delivers his speech, though frequently calling attention to the fact that he has the high ground. The dual meaning of “having the high ground” (morally speaking) quickly becomes apparent, as does the fact that Obi-Wan may not have it after all, considering he steals Anakin’s lightsaber and leaves him to slowly burn to death. It’s a great deconstruction of the iconic scene and funny, to boot!

#3: This Deal’s Getting Worse All the Time “Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II”

Also in:

Top 10 Times Robot Chicken Said What We Were All Thinking

However bad things may seem – they can always be worse! This scene from “The Empire Strikes Back” plays off Vader’s iconic line that he has “altered the deal” he had with Lando Calrissian. After Vader departs, Lando laments that the deal is getting worse all the time. These prophetic words come back to bite him, as Vader gives him increasingly outlandish amendments to their deal, including wearing a dress, calling himself “Mary,” and riding a unicycle. Eventually Lando just accepts the deal so it doesn’t get any worse. The escalating comedy is great here, as is seeing Boba Fett and the Stormtroopers giggling in the background. We have to wonder what else Vader had prepared in the next room. Jar Jar cosplay, maybe?

#2: Boba’s Back! “Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II”

Also in:

Top 10 Callbacks And Easter Eggs In The Book of Boba Fett Season 1

Here, the Ewok celebration is interrupted by the return of Boba Fett, who jets onto the scene with blasters blazing. The cocky, fast-talking “Robot Chicken” version of the character proceeds to mow down the furry creatures using everything from multiple lightsabers making “purple rain,” to his long-range missile. He even attracts the love of Princess Leia, who’s wearing her notorious bikini. If this all sounds like a Nerd’s pipe dream, that’s because it is! Delivering on comedy and action, this segment set the standard for awesome Boba Fett moments…at least until “The Mandalorian” came along. Before we get to our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions: The Rebels Won, “Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II” Numerical Superiority Means Nothing Compared to…“The Plot!” Stormtrooper Curious, “Musya Shakhtyorov in: Honeyboogers” Sure They’re All Clones, But a Few Out of Millions Had to Think This, Right? #1: The Emperor’s Phone Call “1987” / ”Robot Chicken: Star Wars”

Also in:

Top 10 Robot Chicken Sketches

Of all the great Robot Chicken Star Wars gags, this is the one that we keep coming back to. This scene imagines what Emperor Palpatine’s reaction to hearing the Death Star was blown up would have been. After receiving a call from Vader, the Emperor proceeds to freak out over losing the superweapon to a bunch of teenagers and an “Aluminum Falcon.” He cools down a bit while taking another call to order lunch, but then gets right back to berating Vader, even insulting the Sith Lord’s dead wife. While it’s a simple scene, Palpatine’s one-sided rants are absolutely hilarious and make for one of the best “Robot Chicken” sketches ever, not just of “Star Wars.”
