Top 10 Titanic Stars Where Are They Now
We’ll never let go of this incredible cast! Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’ll be looking at the Top 10 Titanic Stars: Where Are They Now?
For this list, we’ll be looking at the major players from this 1997 film and seeing where their careers have taken them since its release.
#10: Gloria Stuart
Rose Dawson Calvert
Though Kate Winslet of course plays Rose for much of the film, Gloria Stuart portrays an older version of the character - one who is about 100 years old and is part of the framing device of the narrative. Stuart was in her mid-80s at the time of filming and actually had to be made to look older for the part. She died in 2010 at the age of 100 after a long and fruitful career in the entertainment industry. Her final film role was in the movie “Land of Plenty”, which was released in 2004 and starred Michelle Williams and John Diehl. Meanwhile, actress Suzy Amis, who played Rose’s granddaughter in the modern day, hasn’t done much acting since “Titanic,” but she did go on to marry the film’s director, James Cameron!
#9: Danny Nucci
Fabrizio
Fabrizio is Jack’s Italian friend who boards the Titanic with him after they win a lucky hand of poker and find themselves with tickets. The character is played by Danny Nucci, who actually did spend his childhood in Italy. While he appeared in many films in the ‘90s, and continued to do movie acting afterwards with roles in “Wishin' and Hopin'” and “Backwoods”, his primary work has been in television since “Titanic” was released. You might not even realize that he actually plays the role of Stef’s ex-husband Mike Foster on “The Fosters”! He has also appeared on “CSI”, “Arrow”, “Castle” and countless other TV shows.
#8: Bernard Hill
Captain Edward John Smith
Bernard Hill plays the real-life Captain Edward John Smith, who had hoped to make the voyage of the Titanic his last but ended up going down with his ship. If you can’t put your finger on where you recognize him from, it’s because he was heavily costumed in his other major role as King Théoden of Rohan in the “Lord of the Rings” films. In more recent years, he most notably acted in the BBC adaptation of “Wolf Hall” (based on the books by Hilary Mantel) in which he played the Duke of Norfolk.
#7: Frances Fisher
Ruth DeWitt Bukater
One of the most hateable characters aboard the RMS Titanic is Rose’s mother, Ruth DeWitt Bukater, who is played in a delightfully evil manner by Frances Fisher. Fisher had a career in both television and movies before being cast in “Titanic” and continued to work consistently afterwards as well. She has made guest appearances on major TV shows like “Grey's Anatomy”, “Two and a Half Men” and “Sons of Anarchy”. In terms of film, she has held minor roles in a number of movies over the years, including co-starring with Saoirse Ronan in “The Host” and Ryan Reynolds in “Woman in Gold”.
#6: Victor Garber
Thomas Andrews
It’s hard to blame any one person for the sinking of the Titanic in the film, but since Thomas Andrews was in charge of building it, he certainly couldn't be absolved of responsibility. Victor Garber played the part - based on the historical figure of the same name - and he at least had the decency to make sure Rose knew the ship was going down! You might recall that Garber played Elle’s creepy instructor Professor Callahan in “Legally Blonde” a few years after “Titanic” was released. He also had a role in the 2012 film “Argo”, which took home the Academy Award for Best Picture. On top of his film roles, he’s also a regular on TV, with parts in “Schitt's Creek”, “Glee” and “The Good Wife” and of course his major role on “Alias”.
#5: Bill Paxton
Brock Lovett
While so much of “Titanic” is about Jack and Rose, the story really kicks off with Brock Lovett and his quest to find the Heart of the Ocean. Lovett is played by Bill Paxton, who worked tirelessly in the industry post “Titanic”, with his most prominent role being in the HBO series “Big Love” in which he played polygamist Bill Henrickson. Paxton died tragically in 2017 at the age of 61 shortly after having open heart surgery, with his final role being in “The Circle” alongside Tom Hanks and Emma Watson. Though he is gone far too soon, his memory will live on in his films.
#4: Billy Zane
Cal Hockley
It’s hard to decide who the primary antagonist of “Titanic” is - the iceberg or Cal Hockley. Rose’s fiance is an arrogant and aggressive man who is unsympathetic to Rose’s hopes and dreams. Billy Zane portrayed the villainous character flawlessly, making him seem simultaneously threatening and yet ultimately inept. Zane took himself a little less seriously when he played himself for a cameo in “Zoolander” and also in his Super Bowl commercial for KFC where he played Colonel Sanders. But he has taken on more serious roles as well with parts in 2019’s “The Great War” and “Cliffs of Freedom”. Cal’s loyal valet, Spicer Lovejoy, was played by David Warner, who has been largely doing theater acting and voice work since appearing in “Titanic”. He also appeared in the 2018 film “Mary Poppins Returns”.
#3: Kathy Bates
Margaret "Molly" Brown
After our two star-crossed protagonists, the best character in “Titanic” is undoubtedly the “unsinkable” Molly Brown, a real-life socialite played by Kathy Bates. She isn’t respected by the other members of first class because of her “new money” status, but she takes Jack under her wing and shows him the ropes. Since “Titanic”, Bates has done some of her best work on television, amassing an impressive total of 14 Emmy nominations. She starred in the show “Harry’s Law,” which unfortunately only ran for two seasons, and has appeared in several entries in the “American Horror Story” franchise created by Ryan Murphy.
#2: Kate Winslet
Rose DeWitt Bukater
What HASN’T Kate Winslet done since “Titanic”? This movie was the jumping off point for the young actress’s career, and she doesn’t seem to have slowed down in the more than 20 years since the film was released. Her acting prowess earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in “The Reader,” but she has appeared in a number of critically acclaimed films since then. Of course, she also acted alongside her “Titanic” co-star when the two teamed up again for 2008’s “Revolutionary Road”. One of her latest projects is Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch” which is scheduled to be released in 2020. She’ll also be appearing in the James Cameron project “Avatar 2,” which we’ll hopefully see in 2021.
#1: Leonardo DiCaprio
Jack Dawson
We’re still not over Jack’s death in “Titanic”, but at least we’ve been able to watch actor Leonardo DiCaprio thrive in the years since the film came out. Like Kate Winslet, he has a myriad of impressive acting credits under his belt, with seven Academy Award nominations, including one win for “The Revenant” in the mid-2010s. One of his more recent roles that has received many accolades was Rick Dalton in the Quentin Tarantino movie “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”. Along with his many film roles and working with director Martin Scorsese on many occasions, DiCaprio has also been hard at work in the humanitarian world, having started the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation to raise awareness for ecological issues.
