Top 10 Troy & Abed BFF Moments on Community

#10: Nerdy Halloween Costumes
“Epidemiology”
In the show’s second season Halloween episode, Troy and Abed dress as characters from “Aliens” and try to use the matching costumes to pick up women. Unfortunately, as Jeff points out, the idea was more Comic Con than it was romantic. Embarrassed, Troy ditches his Ripley outfit to be a “Sexy Dracula” — disappointing Abed. The ensuing life or death zombie situation eventually makes Troy realize that Abed’s friendship means more to him than what he looks like. In what they think could be their last exchange, the pair quotes “The Empire Strikes Back,” acknowledging their love for each other and warming our hearts.
#9: Troy & Abed’s Dinner Party
“Remedial Chaos Theory”
This episode remains a fan favorite, but with its numerous meme-able moments and the introduction of the darkest timeline, it can be easy to forget that it all takes place in Troy and Abed’s new digs. The apartment, which would become a regular setting in the show, is as charming and geeky as one would imagine, complete with a prominent diorama of the boulder scene from “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” In later episodes, the introduction of the Dreamatorium and a permanent blanket fort make it hard to imagine a more fitting home for Troy and Abed.
#8: Troy and Abed in the Morning!
Various
When it comes to morning show hosts, Troy and Abed would have been among the best — if only their show had actually been broadcast. Troy and Abed in the Morning! was a recurring gag where the friends would pretend to interview people in front of a live studio audience. Often taking place in their usual study room hangout, the show featured guests whose participation ranged from confused to enthusiastic. The cute and quirky bit was an all-around brilliant showcase of the duo’s on-screen chemistry. The pair would later put these hosting skills to good use in “Intro to Political Science,” where they covered Greendale’s student election for campus television.
#7: Shared Fandom
Various
Britta was an unexpected hero when she found Abed a replacement for “Cougar Town.” “Inspector Spacetime” — a very obvious spoof of “Doctor Who” — is a long-running British science fiction series within the world of “Community.” Both Troy and Abed quickly take to the show, and eventually find themselves cosplaying the Inspector and his constable at InSpecTiCon. They plan to take a specialty friendship photo there, but Abed leaves to find a superfan named Toby, who has ulterior motives to become Abed’s sole companion. Although initially charmed, Abed catches on and delivers a moving speech comparing him and Troy to the characters on the show.
#6: Singing to Fievel
“Environmental Science”
Troy and Abed’s plot in this season one episode revolves around their shared assignment to teach a rat to respond to a song. Troy’s fear of the creature initially causes the pair to struggle to complete the task. But when the rat, named Fievel, runs into an air vent, the pair come together to sing “Somewhere Out There” and lure it out. The song and the rat’s namesake come from the animated film “An American Tail,” but the moment also serves as a wholesome early example of camaraderie between our favorite friends.
#5: Annie’s Big Fib
“Foosball and Nocturnal Vigilantism”
When Annie accidentally does the unthinkable and steps on Abed’s limited edition “The Dark Knight” DVD, Troy is understandably mortified. Looking out for his best friend, he insists that Annie tell Abed the truth. But she doesn’t listen. By the time the pair comes home, Annie has already concocted an elaborate lie, insisting that their home was robbed. Troy continuously tries to get Annie to come clean, and it’s clear he knows his friend well. In no time at all, Abed is dressed as Batman and interrogating their landlord. Annie is eventually forced to come clean and is immediately forgiven by Batman-Abed, proving that Troy has always understood his pal best.
#4: The Librarian
“Early 21st Century Romanticism”
If you wanna be Troy’s lover, you gotta get with his friend. When Troy and Abed both set their sights on the same woman, they decide it would be best to let her choose between them and avoid needless competition. She agrees, and both boys try their best to woo the lovely librarian. Less than charmed by Abed’s lengthy opinion on the “Saw” franchise, she opts for Troy. But Troy questions why she would choose him over Abed, and is outraged when he learns it was because she found Abed “weird.” He ditches his date, reconciling with Abed and assuring him that there’s someone out there for both of them.
#3: Fluffy Town
“Conspiracy Theories and Interior Design”
Blanket forts were a cornerstone of Troy and Abed’s friendship, and Fluffy Town was one of their first. What started out as a normal-sized fort quickly transforms into a larger feat of cushy construction. By the episode’s halfway point, Troy and Abed have constructed an entire mini city entirely out of bedding, complete with laws, independence parades, and even a civil rights museum. That is, until neighboring schools catch wind of the fort’s popularity and start building their own. Favoring fun and ingenuity to fame, Troy and Abed call it quits on their blanket utopia and move on.
#2: Friends at War
“Digital Exploration of Interior Design” & “Pillows and Blankets”
When Troy and Abed begin work on a possibly record-setting blanket fort, Guinness is called in to document their progress. Unfortunately, the boys disagree on the importance of holding a world record. They split apart, both as friends and builders, and a war of pillows and blankets overtakes Greendale. Cruel things are said on both sides, and it seems like the friends might actually part ways — until it’s uncovered that both had continued fighting because they feared it was the last thing they’d ever do together. Jeff points out that this means they still care for one another, and facilitates their reconciliation.

#1: Abed Lets Go
“Geothermal Escapism”
Donald Glover’s departure from “Community” was hard on us all, but no one was more profoundly affected than Abed. On Troy’s last day at Greendale, Abed sets up a school-wide game of Hot Lava, framing it as his departing gift. However, it becomes clear that the exercise was Abed’s way of keeping Troy around as long as possible. After a heartfelt talk between the two friends, Abed finally lets go. He and Troy are then resurrected as clones, and the imaginary rebirth helps both men come to terms with losing each other. After watching them grow together for five seasons it’s hard not to be moved by their final goodbye.
