Top 10 William Shatner's Captain Kirk Fight Moves

Top 10 William Shatner's Captain Kirk Fight Moves
VOICE OVER: Dan
If there's one thing William Shatner is known for besides ending up topless in nearly every episode of Star Trek, it's his ridiculous 23rd century fighting techniques. From ear slaps to fist throw-downs and launching himself like a projectile, there's no shortage of fun to be had watching him take down aliens. Join http://www.WatchMojo.com as we count down the top 10 greatest of William Shatner's Captain Kirk fight moves. For the purpose of this list, we will be focusing exclusively on moves from episodes of the original 60s Star Trek Series.

#10- Pillow Blindness “Wink of an Eye”

‘Kicking off our list is the move demonstrated by Kirk in the episode in which the Enterprise is invaded by invisible time accelerated aliens. With Kirk being similarly accelerated by the alien Queen, he is informed that their men have become sterile. With his man seed on the line, and the Queen’s would-be lover getting jealous, Kirk is forced to defend himself sleepover style!

#9- The Ear Slap “Arena”

In this iconic full-but-slow-motion fight, Kirk has been sent to an uninhabited asteroid and made to fight the captain of an opposing ship in unarmed combat. Taking on the Gorn, a creature many times his strength, Kirk is caught up in an unfriendly hug and threatened with a nibble on his neck. Thinking fast, he substitutes pushing power for a double slap to the creature’s ear holes! Wonder if PETA sent them a letter.

#8- The Kiss and Dismiss “The Gamesters of Triskelion”

During this adventure, Kirk and his away team are forced into slavery and trained to become gladiators. Desperate for Intel, Kirk decides to coax information from a fellow captive by introducing to her the foreign concepts of freedom and love. Of course, this was all so Kirk could eventually finally try out his latest move… gender equality goes both ways!

#7- The Human Bowling Ball “The Apple”

When Kirk and company beam down to a mysterious planet, they soon discover that a computer posing as a false god is controlling the locals. When the naïve and innocent natives are instructed to kill the away team, Kirk decides to roll out one of his best techniques yet. To the untrained eye this may look like he’s assuming the fetal position and allowing his attackers to trip over him, but watch it again and you may begin to comprehend the brilliance.

#6- The Human Projectile “Tomorrow is Yesterday”

With Enterprise is sent back to 1969 due to a high-gravity black star, the ship is picked up by radar and accidentally downs an army jet. To preserve the timeline, they transport to a military base to recover the aircraft’s surveillance footage. This forces Kirk to buy his team time to beam out by taking on three members of the army’s security team using yet another full body, non-lethal assault!

#5- The Wall of Destruction “Journey to Babel”

While transporting dignitaries to a peace conference, it soon becomes apparent that an assassin is on the loose. Kirk soon discovers the killer’s identity when he is threatened with a knife. I guess they don’t have metal detectors in the 23rd century... Anyhoo, during their fight Kirk decides to lay down his best impression of wrestle mania. Points for style, but it does leave Kirk vulnerable…yikes!

#4- The Kirk Scissor Choke “Space Seed”

In this episode, Kirk inadvertently revives Khan and his army of genetically modified goons from cryo-sleep. When his ship is taken over, he confronts the madman in the Engineering room in a fight to save the Enterprise from exploding. As Khan is far superior to Kirk in terms of upper body strength, ol’ Jim relies on the scissor power of his toned thighs to help save the day.

#3- The Kirk Kick “Spectre of the Gun”

When the Enterprise crew is found trespassing in a forbidden sector of space, Kirk and his away team are sent to die in a re-enactment of the O.K. Corral shootout. As everything’s just an illusion, they go all Neo and make the bullets ineffective by not believing in them. This radical turn of events is key as it allows Kirk to literally kick into gear!

#2- The Shatner Chop “Where No Man Has Gone Before”

If Kirk can claim any one move as his most used, it’s the chop to the neck. In this early use of the slice attack, Kirk is forced to fight corrupted Starfleet officer Gary Mitchell after he begins misusing his recently acquired godlike powers. Seizing an opportunity to strike back, Kirk chops him down to size. While seen countless times afterward, Kirk later learns to throw in a fisted version…ye-ouch!

#1- The Double Fist “Arena”

Taking the top spot on our countdown is the most iconic technique in Shatner combat, one that even beats out the neck chop. Math is the international language of the universe, so if one first is good, two is always better! Holds hands together to strike the bad guys. An iconic maneuver is best remembered for the iconic episode it’s used in, namely the aforementioned Arena episode against the Gorn captain. Bring down that hammer Jimbo.
