Top 20 Action Movie Killing Spree Scenes

Welcome to WatchMojo, and today were counting down our picks for the moments in action films where characters rapidly killed a lot of people!

#20: Are You Not Entertained?!

Gladiator (2000)
Being forced to fight to the death for entertainment is hard enough, but getting stuck in the arena with ex-Roman General Maximus Meridius pretty much guarantees youre going to lose. Maximus, played by Russell Crowe, is nothing short of a killing machine, and in this scene, he showcases his talents, slicing through multiple gladiators in less than one minute. After decapitating his final victim, Maximus antagonizes a crowd bored with a fight that ended so quickly. Shame on you, Rome, we are most definitely entertained!

#19: .50 Caliber Rescue

Rambo IV (2008)
He may be getting on in years, and this may have been the franchises fourth installment, but we have never seen Rambo kill like this before. In this scene, a group of missionaries, and the mercenaries that set out to rescue them, are at the mercy of the vicious Tatmadaw army when Rambo appears on the scene, decapitating his first enemy before taking the helm of a jeep-mounted 50-caliber machine gun. From there, we watch heads blow up and bodies tear in half as Rambo takes out the entire army. Did we forget to mention he disembowels a guy? Yeah, that happens too.

#18: Hallway Shootout

Kick-Ass (2010)
The precocious young vigilante, Hit-Girl, kills quite a few people in this dark superhero film. Her assault on mafia boss Frank DAmicos headquarters sees her go all out! After arriving at the right floor, Hit-Girl kills the initial goons in dramatic fashion, using a knife on a rope! She even makes one of them turn his own gun on himself! During the scene, Hit-Girl takes on a full hallway of guards. Dual wielding pistols, she bounces off the shelves and the thugs themselves, killing her way through a dozen or so before finally running out of bullets.

#17: Minigun in a Coffin

Django (1966)
Just what are you hiding in there? Django, a vigilante cowboy, surprised everyone, especially audiences, when he opened the coffin hed been dragging around the whole movie to reveal one serious beast of a mini-gun. Taking aim at Major Jackson and a horde of bandits closing in, Django lets loose, gritting his teeth and dropping those bad guys to the floor. Extra points go to the innocent town folk, who just look on with their faces set to stun. Hey man, you dropped your cigar.

#16: Wesley vs. the Fraternity

Wanted (2008)
Getting revenge on a group of shadowy assassins is no simple task, but Wesley Gibson certainly makes it look easy! He rams his way into their hideout with a garbage truck, and despite taking heavy fire, releases a horde of rats wired with explosives. Wesley uses the distraction to kill his way through the textile mill and everyone inside it. Between the parkour moves, slow-motion, and using the guns while upside-down, Wesleys rampage through the Fraternitys base makes for one deadly spectacle! He even caps it off with a duel with a butcher.

#15: Hospital Shootout

Hard Boiled (1992)
This John Woo classic has several intense shootouts with high body counts. One of them is the opening teahouse gun battle. But the shootout scene set in a hospital goes even harder. Policemen Tequila and Alan work together to take down Triad members whove taken a hospitals staff and patients hostage. The duo make their way through several corridors and floors, gunning down every bad guy in sight! Best of all, a great deal of this scene was done in one take, with stunts, broken glass, and slow-mo all in one shot!

#14: Forest Battle

RRR (2022)
This Indian historical epic is loaded with awesome action scenes, but its finale easily has the highest body count! Revolutionaries Ram and Bheem are surrounded while sheltering in a forest. However, what the British army doesnt know is that Ram and Bheem are basically superheroes! The pair use arrows, a spear, fire, grenades, and even a motorcycle to kill their way through their colonizer foes. Is it a little over the top? Sure, but thats what makes it fun! The scene is a high-octane spectacle, as each new, seemingly impossible feat Bheem and Ram perform just makes them look even cooler!

#13: Warehouse Brawl

The Night Comes for Us (2018)
The fights are brutal and frequent in this spiritual cousin to The Raid films. When ex-Triad member Ito comes knocking at a warehouse being used by his former organization, the bodies start stacking up quickly! Despite being vastly outnumbered, Ito uses everything he can lay his hands on to kill every henchman that comes after him. Machetes, billiard balls, a shotgun, hooks you name it, he uses it! There are some truly gnarly deaths in this sequence, but the creative camera work and intensity of the action make Itos rampage a satisfying one!

#12: V Kills Creedys Men

V for Vendetta (2005)
The titular freedom fighter-slash-terrorist kills many people in his one-man crusade to overthrow an alternate Britains fascist regime. In his final confrontation with Peter Creedy, the head of the secret police, V outdoes himself. After refusing to remove his mask, V promises that once their guns are empty, hell still be standing, and theyll be dead. Sure enough, when its his turn, V cuts through Creedys goons with nothing but his knives! The slow-motion trails left by the knives through the air are wonderfully stylized, and Vs rampage doesnt end until he snaps Creedys neck. Ideas are bulletproof - and so is this fantastic scene!

#11: Tony Montanas Last Stand

Scarface (1983)
The finale of this crime film is the stuff of legend! Drug lord Tony Montana is attacked in his mansion by men sent by his supplier, Sosa. The men kill Tonys sister and guards, leaving Tony to take them on alone with a grenade-launcher-equipped rifle, all while hes high on his own wares! After introducing the attackers to his little friend, Tony mows through them, but more just keep coming. Even after losing his weapon and being shot multiple times, Tony doesnt go down until an assassin shoots him in the back. Its two killing sprees in one famous scene.

#10: Highway Fight

Deadpool (2016)
Superpowered mercenary Wade Wilson kills a lot of guys in his inaugural outing. A prime example is the montage as he searches for Francis. But DPs killing spree when he catches up to the man who disfigured him is even better! The spree sees Deadpool ambushing a convoy - fighting goons inside an SUV, then amid the wreckage on an overpass. He even flexes on them by counting down his remaining bullets! The over-the-top action, combined with Deadpools irreverent jokes make this a gloriously entertaining sequence. It was actually based on test footage leaked to the public a few years earlier, which helped get the movie made in the first place!

#9: Matrix vs. the Island

Commando (1985)
An island full of soldiers versus one Arnold? Our moneys on the Governator. In this scene, Colonel John Matrix kills lots of bad guys with his trusty machine gun, and takes advantage of some well-placed garden tools, and uses his fists, and shoots some more, but our favorite of his kills is all about creativity. Using that Mr. Olympia strength, Matrix breaks off a steam pipe and launches it right through the chest of a very unfortunate bad guy. We know its obvious, but that is one way to blow off some steam!

#8: Hallway Shootout

Equilibrium (2002)
The finale of this often-overlooked dystopian action film sees John Preston captured by the totalitarian government he once served. However, this was all part of his plan to get close to the regimes leader. Preston makes his way to the dictators office, taking on a hallway of guards. Everything about the sequence, from the outlandish reloads to the expertly choreographed gun kata movements, is outrageous, yet effortlessly cool! Preston may run out of ammo by the end, but thats only because, like this killing spree, hes firing on all cylinders!

#7: Restaurant Shootout

A Better Tomorrow (1986)
We wouldnt smirk if we were you! Not in front of a Mark Lee seeking revenge. With two guns and a steely look of determination, Lee opens fire on the criminals that wronged him, but thats not where the real magic starts. After running out of bullets, Lee retrieves a gun hed stashed in a potted plant, not once, but twice, and unloads more hot lead. The sounds of single screams and the juxtaposition of dark red blood on the pure white setting create a visual effect that is mesmerizing. Seriously, who knew plants were so dangerous?

#6: Dont Stop Me Now Scene

Hardcore Henry (2015)
You could argue that this entire first-person action movie is one long killing spree, but this scene is a definite highlight! Faced with the telekinetic Akan and his army of supersoldiers, Henry shoots his way through them and blows up a rooftop barricade. The supersoldiers get up again, but Henry injects himself with adrenaline and goes to town! He uses rubble, a fan, and whatever else he can to mow down his foes, all while Queens Dont Stop Me Now plays. Although Akan eventually puts an end to the festivities, this is still a scene that we dont want to stop at all!

#5: Seventh Hell

The Raid: Redemption (2011)
One Ruthless Crime Lord, 20 Elite Cops, 30 Floors of Hell! The tagline tells you everything you need to know about this action-lovers dream movie, and nothing captures its spirit of mayhem and tenement pandemonium more than the brutal ass-kicking that occurs in the seventh floor hallway. Armed with a baton, knife, and expert martial arts skills, Officer Rama finds creative ways to stab every member of a seemingly endless supply of dangerous attackers to their gruesome deaths. When you have these skills, who needs guns?

#4: Government Lobby Shootout

The Matrix (1999)
How do we even begin to describe the carnage that ensues when Neo and Trinity roll up to security, fully stocked with every gun imaginable? The two take turns blowing away soldiers, taking advantage of their heightened powers in the Matrix. Bullets arent the only things falling to the ground, as the entire lobby explodes and bits of concrete blast in every direction. Utilizing slow motion, the Wachowskis create a truly unique shootout experience. Good thing Neo took the red pill.

#3: Church Melee

Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014)
Okay, going to a radicalized church for a hate group and expecting everything to go smoothly maybe not your brightest idea Kingsman agent, but thank the Lord it gave us this amazing all-out brawl. This crazy scene took a full week to film and involved almost 100 extras and 20 stuntmen. What makes this scene special is its appearance as a single chaotic tracking shot, following agent Hart as he shoots, stabs, lights on fire, and pretty much finds every way in the book to kill, set to the intense guitar riffs of Free Bird. All in a days work, right?

#2: Red Circle Club Shootout

John Wick (2014)
Killing sprees are basically the premise of the John Wick movies, so there were many we could have chosen. The museum showdown in Chapter 2 has a virtually unmatched body count for the series! The Dragons Breath sequence in Chapter 4 has incredible style and bombast! But none of them quite have the same impact as the original films Red Circle Club scene. John Wick hunts down the young Russian mob heir who killed his dog through the club, all while killing his men with ruthless efficiency! The music and mood draw us in every time, while the action and gunplay set a new standard of excellence! Its the benchmark by which all other killing sprees in the John Wick franchise are measured!

#1: Showdown at House of Blue Leaves

Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003)
Quentin Tarantino gave us a wonderful bloodbath with the Candy Land ranch massacre in Django Unchained. But our top spot goes to his earlier effort with The Bride. This ultraviolent fight includes several iconic moments, such as the entrance of O-Ren Ishii and her bodyguards, the Brides fight with the terrifying 17-year old Gogo Yubari, and the slaughter of the Crazy 88 with her Katana. She also scalps someone, but you know, no big deal. We havent even talked about Tarantinos crazy visual effects, but take our word for it - theyre amazing. Oh, and dont ever cross the Bride.
