Welcome to MsMojo, where were looking at some of the most hilarious down-to-earth moments from the House of Windsor.
#20: Philips Humor
Just like his wife, Philip was incredibly witty. Many of his remarks were extremely offensive, but a lot were straight-up hilarious. This ranged from him getting sassy when he wasnt recognised, to roasting French breakfast. A couple of times, he even got on Elton Johns case. During a performance in 2001, Philip hoped John would turn his mic off. He also ripped into Johns car while he was living near Windsor Castle. Another celebrity he got on the wrong side of was chef Rick Stein, with Philip flat out refusing to try his fish. Its been years since he passed away, but his dry humor will be remembered for centuries.
#19: Dianas Bottle Breaking
Diana and Charles relationship was full of ups and downs, to put it mildly. They married in 1981, then stayed together until 1996. Five years into the relationship, things seemed to sour so much, Diana resorted to violence, smashing a bottle over Charles head. Just kidding! Despite how it looks, it was just a playful stunt. It was a sugar bottle, intended for safely smashing glass for movie stunts. So it was all fun and games, but observer Thomas Wheatley later said, Looking back on it, she probably did it with considerable enthusiasm.
#18: Christmas Pudding
Prince Williams eldest son George is second in line to the throne. Despite his importance, hes still a child and has a lot of maturing to do. Occasionally, his father manages to get him off Fortnite, like in 2019 when George joined his family to bake some pudding. The little prince decided to use a rather unorthodox stirring technique, which was basically stabbing the mix. As soon as the Queen saw, she had to step away, being scared of getting caught in the crossfire. Thankfully, Kings arent required to be talented bakers.
#17: Wimbledon Reactions
Its common knowledge that the Royals love a spot of tennis. Kate Middleton is so fond of Wimbledon, shes been going long before she became a Royal. This has resulted in quite a few hilarious reaction shots of the Princess. When George joined her in 2022, he revealed hed inherited this trait from his mother. He couldve also been reacting to the players foul language. It seems to run in the family, with Diana, Elizabeth, Camilla, William, and even Charles having hilarious reactions to sports. Its possibly more fun to watch the Royals watching sports than it is to watch the sports themselves.
#16: Brotherly Banter
Its easy to forget William and Harry are brothers these days. After Megxit, the pair fell out completely. It wasnt always the case; when they were younger, the two shared loads of wholesome moments together. When they were children, the pair would wear matching outfits and play polo together. William also taught his baby brother how to play the piano, then later supported him on his first day of school. According to them, losing their mother helped create a strong bond between the two. Hopefully, the pair will become buddies again someday, and well get loads more witty banter from them.
#15: The Queens Cake
In 2022, Britain began celebrating Elizabeth IIs Platinum Jubilee, commemorating 70 years of service. This made her the second-longest reigning monarch in history, after Frances Sun King, Louis XIV. It was also the first time a British monarch had hit the milestone. As such, a grand cake was needed for the occasion. Of course, Her Majesty got the honour of cutting the cake first. Hilariously, she quipped that the cake was more important than her. After, the Queen makes half an attempt to cut a slice. For anyone else that would be a poor attempt, but since shes the queen, everybody applauds.
#14: Harrys Beard
Before Megxit, Harry & Meghan would frequently go on royal visits. These often brought them into contact with children, many of which were enamored by Harrys facial hair. It happened more than once, making us wonder if he secretly fills his beard with candy. Every one of these interactions are adorable, showing Archie and Lilibet must be incredibly lucky children. It must run in the family, since the Queen always got along great with kids. Thankfully no grown ups have tried snatching his beard. If Harrys not interested, it could potentially be a very menial form of treason.
#13: Weather Man Charles
Charles II was a man who loved to party, earning him the title the Merry Monarch. Charles III on the other hand, could become known as the King of Weather. This is because in 2012 he hilariously appeared on BBC Scotland to do a weather forecast. His delivery was on point, but half way through, he complains about his lines. Maybe His Majesty wouldve done a lot better if it was all improvised. Unfortunately, he didnt take up weather forecasting full time. If he had done, BBC Scotlands weather segments would be getting tons more views.
#12: Feeding Time
Its commonly known the Queen loved animals. From a young age, she adored all types of animals. Eventually, she became particularly fond of corgis, which she had more than 30 of in her life. At one point, she owned 11 dogs in total, alongside tortoises, ponies, a sloth, two jaguars, and even an elephant. Once, she and Philip got the opportunity to feed an elephant at Whipsnade Zoo. The Queen showed absolutely no hesitation, likely from her connection to animals. Philip on the other hand, didnt show the same level of cool.
#11: Queen Driving a Saudi Prince
Being the longest reigning monarch wasnt the only service Elizabeth II did for her country. She joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service in World War Two, becoming a skilled mechanic and driver. She once showed off these talents to a Saudi Prince, taking him for a spin around the Balmoral Hotel. At the time, it was illegal for a woman to drive in Saudi Arabia. As such, the prince was beyond shocked, especially since she was talking the whole time. The prince hilariously had his interpreter tell her to slow down, scared the military didnt teach her how to properly drive.
#10: Royal Tongues
Prince Harry was a bit of a mischievous jokester growing up, and his personality was displayed early on. He was notably seen cheekily sticking his tongue out while riding in a car with his mother Princess Diana, who put a stop to his antics. Decades later, Harry continues to slip his tongue out, demonstrating hes still that child at heart. The goofy gesture seems to run in the family, too! His niece and nephews, Princess Charlotte, Prince George, and Prince Louis have all also been caught in the act. We got major déjà vu when Charlotte stuck her tongue out at cameras and was pulled away by her mom. It was an equally hilarious and adorable scene, reminiscent of Harry and Diana way back when.
#9: Charles Dancing
A royal prince breakdancing might sound oxymoronic, but video footage of Prince Charles proves otherwise. At a 1985 event, he was encouraged to join a group of surrounding breakdancers. Though seemingly uncomfortable at first, Charles ended up pulling out some surprisingly impressive moves. Showcasing his talents further, the Prince participated in a choreographed Hokey Cokey dance during a Sri Lanka trip. But Charles isn't the only family member who knows how to get down. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge boogied in Tuvalu, Harry did some partner and solo work in Jamaica, and Kate shared a comical dance with Paddington Bear. Though routinely reserved, the royals do know how to let loose.
#8: Dianas Ski Fail
Princess Diana and her fourth cousin turned sister-in-law, Sarah Ferguson, didnt always have a picture-perfect relationship. But the two built a solid friendship that included vacationing together. During one Swiss trip, the pair made their way down a ski slope, but Diana was unable to stick the landing. After taking a tumble, Sarah skied over to check on her friend, and they of course shared a laugh over the ordeal. Its this kind of funny and carefree moment that serves as a light-hearted scene to look back fondly on. The late princess was loved by many, and her radiance as a mother, activist, and hilariously clumsy skier is what shell continue to be remembered for.
#7: William & Kates Competitiveness
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are proper and composed when duty calls, but there's no room for those personas when competition ensues. On several occasions, the husband and wife have taken advantage of their public engagements to act on their marital rivalry. They could be gearing up for a race, competing in a sailing regatta, or facing off in a game of ping pong. No matter the occasion, these royals arent ones to back down from a healthy showdown. Even though William has bested Kate a time or two, were sure shell avenge her losses in whichever humorous competition the two take part in next.
#6: Annes Video Chat Lesson
Rarely would we dub the royals relatable, but a documentary on Princess Anne revealed an experience many can understandtrying to explain technology to a parent. Who hasnt been there?! In a laughable scene, Anne and her mother, the Queen, jumped on a video call, and the monarch was understandably not the most technologically inclined. Anne opened the virtual dialogue with an all too common question. And her mother replied that she only had eyes on 4 of the 6 people who she shouldve been able to see. Anne followed up the relatable exchange with a joke, solidifying this royal mother-daughter moment as one thats as endearing as it is funny.
#5: Rockstar William
Few trios are as unexpected as Jon Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift, and Prince William. In 2013, the Prince joined the iconic pop and rock stars on a Kensington Palace stage to belt Bon Jovis famous Livin' on a Prayer. The royal might have initially looked tense and way out of his comfort zone when approaching the microphone, but he quickly loosened up and did the song justice with his A+ singing effort. William seemed to particularly enjoy his time on stage once the chorus rolled around, leaving the audience and us watching from afar thoroughly entertained. Its always fun to watch the royals try new things. The randomness and hilarity of the short-lived musical group makes this legendary performance especially memorable.
#4: Popcorn Thief
Over the years, the Duke of Sussex has shown his playful side when interacting with the youth. One of his funniest encounters took place in the stands of a volleyball match at the Invictus Games, where he found himself seated next to a then-two-year-old girl. While he was enjoying his popcorn, the little one, named Emily, hysterically stole some for herself. After catching the adorable thief, Harry teased her, but was more than happy to share his snack. As a former mischievous youngin himself, he seemed to have gotten just as much of a kick out of the interaction as we did. And if theres any questions about what hes like as a dad, this sweet moment is a good indication.
#3: Roasting U.S. Presidents
Queen Elizabeth proved she was not intimidated by her fellow world leaders. And she seemed to especially have a thing for poking fun at U.S. presidents. During a White House visit, then- President Bush mistakenly said that the Queen was present for the American bicentennial celebration (which occurred in 1976) in 1776. At a later dinner, the monarch used her speech to reference the error, which aged her about 2 centuries, and wittily called him out. She also once used the overhead noise of a helicopter to land another quip. Most of the Queens jokes were humorous, but were extra funny when U.S. leaders are the butt of them.
#2: Louis at the Jubilee
The older royals have certainly given us their fair share of candid comedy moments. But the next generation has also already begun to make us laugh with their childly antics. Most notably, Prince Louis stole the Queens spotlight at the Platinum Jubilee. His older sister, Princess Charlotte, tried to calm his overzealous waving. Louis continued to exude restless energy at the Jubilee Pageant, clearly enjoying himself in the stands. And wed be remiss not to mention how he pulled some truly hilarious faces on a balcony during the flypast. Safe to say that he was one of the stars of the show. Thanks to the young royals vibrant personality, we did too.
#1: The Queens Wit
Despite often being thought of as stone-faced, Queen Elizabeth blessed the public with glimpses of her quick-witted sense of humor. Shed notably made clever quips about the longevity of her life, the heavy weight of her crown, and cutting a cake with an obscenely large sword. In other words, her Majesty rarely missed an opportunity to make those around her smile. And it was always a treat to witness. One of her funniest moments took place at a photoshoot, where she was hysterically appalled that the photographer Annie Leibovitz wanted her to look less dressy. With her cheekiness and sharp remarks, the monarch exemplified how a leader can embody the seriousness of their role while maintaining a fun-loving spirit.
