Top 20 Most Bashed RuPaul's Drag Race Queens

She is the OG of “Drag Race” villains. Few queens on the first season had anything nice to say about third place finisher Rebecca Glasscock. To a casual viewer, it seems harsh. Drag queens can be shady, but it’s hard to square the amount of hate she got with anything she actually did on screen. Yes, she may come across as a tad unprofessional, but throughout the competition, her talent, authenticity, and even her ethics were constantly under question by the other queens. She was such a controversial figure that even the contestants on the first “All Stars” season couldn’t resist throwing shade her way. But as the first true villain of the franchise, she’s a trailblazer all her own.

Season 15’s Loosey Laduca is an anomaly. She’s funny, beautiful and seasoned. Her anthem, “Let Loose,” even became a meme. She is an all-around talented queen in every category that “Drag Race” challenges are meant to test, yet something always felt a little off. Despite her prowess in the competition, she couldn’t help but make it known when she was upset, and it started to grate on the competition’s nerves. Were some of the things she said wildly off-base? Sure, but is this not a show about drag queens? Many fans spent the season sending her hate when they should have been thanking her for serving up some of the season’s best moments of unintentional comedy.

Queens who clash with the fan favorite seem to always end up getting a lot of hate. Bob the Drag Queen was not only a season 8 fave, but she was a clear frontrunner for the win. This didn’t deter Derrick Barry. She stayed trying to rattle her competition, consistently earning the ire of fans and the other contestants. Her short but memorable stay on “All Stars” 5 probably didn’t do much to endear her to skeptics. Though the criticism of her has dulled with time, “Drag Race” fans still have a good time with her somewhat shaky grip on LGBTQ history. One thing is for certain when it comes to Derrick Barry. No one can come for her Britney impersonation.

You want cutting confessionals? Look no further than Ra’Jah O’Hara. During her run on season 11, Ra’Jah’s critiques of queens like Yvie Oddly, Plastique Tiara, and Scarlet Envy touched a nerve with viewers. She received a torrent of disgusting racist comments and death threats on social media. When she returned as an all star, Ra’Jah got to showcase her new tricks and her new attitude, winning over the fanbase. Her rudemption culminated with her being crowned the winner of “Canada vs. the World.” When all is said and done, she may just have one of the most inspirational character arcs in “Drag Race” herstory.

In season 7, Jasmine Masters found herself on one end of a racial and age-based divide between cast members. Before her elimination in week three, her criticisms of Pearl, Trixie Mattel, and Violet Chachki attracted some pretty cruel treatment on social media. Even RuPaul tweeted out a message of support to her when it was all going on. You know the fans have gone too far when RuPaul herself has to step in. Unfortunately, her short run on “All Stars” didn’t go well either. Never one to shy away from speaking her truth, Jasmine has consistently generated controversy for her opinions on just about everything. She’s also earned a place as one of the show’s funniest and most memeable queens.

On season 9, Broadway queen Alexis Michelle was feeling herself, but it was a different story once the show aired. She endured some really harsh treatment from season 9 favorite Valentina’s “voracious” fans. However, it was also some of the questionable things she said that didn’t play well with the fans or her fellow queens. Although she got farther on “All Stars” 8, she landed in hot water over her involvement with Heidi N Closet’s sudden dramatic exit, and was accused of being insincere. With a fanbase as passionate as “Drag Race’s” is, it’s easy to imagine how scary it was going back to the show, but even RuPaul had to mention her tendency to cry… a lot.

A lot of fans were excited to see Silky among the season 11 lineup. Her elegance, boisterous personality, and outrageous performance style preceded her. If there’s one thing about Silky, she’s gonna try to grab the spotlight. This annoyed some of her competitors, and harshed her reception with the fans. Silky’s ongoing tension with Yvie Oddly bubbled over a few times, but she cited her “Snatch Game” win as a low point because the fans were so angry that she won. Like her season 11 sister, Ra’Jah O’Hara, she was able to show more of her talent and another side of her personality in subsequent seasons, including a lip syncing marathon for the ages.

She may have made it to the finale, but this New York queen actually said she was relieved not to win the season 13 crown for fear of backlash. Kandy Muse almost single-handedly brought back old school “Drag Race” with her fearlessness about calling things out. She said what she was thinking, and if someone stepped out of line, she was always ready to push play. Just don’t call her arrogant. Being outspoken can be a double-edged sword, though. Fan response was mixed, but the ones who weren’t feeling the Kandy Muse experience were really, really not feeling it. But never one to give in, she only proved the fans who loved her right by continuously slaying on “All Stars.”

When she sent Miss Congeniality winner Katya home during the “Roar” lip sync, Kennedy Davenport earned the ire of many “Drag Race” fans. Not even her iconic launch from the stage and landing in a split could save her from the haters. Kennedy has disclosed that she felt under-appreciated by “Drag Race” fans, particularly after her original season. But even when she returned for “All Stars,” she received blowback over the jury twist that fans believe robbed Shangela of a top two spot. Taken to task for her honest confessionals, Kennedy is just one of many African-American queens who have been upfront about fans’ double standards for queens of color.

Serena had just graduated art school when she entered the competition, a fact that she was not afraid to remind the other girls of throughout her two-episode run. Sadly, her age and her fine art education didn’t help her performance, and she was disliked by the others from the start for coming across as arrogant and annoying. She came for other queens about their age and educational status, even going as far as to call them ‘ghetto’, and she was the target of one of Detox’s famous quotes. It turned out audiences at home had ‘officially’ had it with Serena’s behavior too, as it became a trend to bash her after long after season five ended.

Is Gia a fierce queen? Absolutely! Unfortunately, she was a little too fierce during her time on the show. Known in season six for her scathing reads and bitchy confessionals, Gia Gunn’s shadiness would have made her the villain of the season if she hadn’t been so iconic. However, on “All Stars” 4, Gia shook up the werkroom when she came for Farrah Moan over some drama that happened off the show, in a salty confrontation that appeared less like a tongue-in-cheek read, and more like an attempt to sabotage Farrah’s performance and get in her head. Unfortunately for Gia, the other queens were not having it, calling out Gia for her bad attitude and eventually sending her home.

There was a throughline to this season 6 queen’s time on the show. Laganja Estranja was consistently accused of being fake, and even trying to produce a persona that didn’t square with who she was. From cringe comedy to overused catchphrases, Laganja just rubbed everyone the wrong way. Even judge Michelle Visage couldn’t be bothered to hide her annoyance with the queen. You know it’s bad when even a judge can’t wait for you to go. Over the years, she’s more than earned her rudemption from the fans, and has even made a triumphant return to the mainstage as a Lip Sync Assassin.

Darienne Lake’s fierce and funny nature meant she could read any queen to filth - it was just unfortunate that this talent was showcased way more often than necessary. She came across as a bit of a villain on season six and audiences noticed she could be catty, particularly towards Miss Congeniality BenDeLaCreme. Audiences weren’t too thrilled when DeLa was eventually sent home by Darienne in a nail-biting Lip Sync for Your Life. A lot of viewers were left yelling at their TV screens when they disagreed with Ru’s choice, but we must admit, it did make for a dramatic ending to this entertaining feud.

Roxxxy Andrews didn’t do herself any favors during her run on season five when she repeatedly picked on fan favorite and eventual winner Jinkx Monsoon, coming for her looks, her performance and even her sweet and gentle personality. In “All Stars” 2, Roxxxy was indeed ‘here to make it clear’ that she’d changed since season five, apologizing for her behavior and saying she was ‘gonna make it right’. Although she’d left her bitchiness behind, she was the target of further criticism from fans when she was deemed undeserving of being in the top four, when bestie troupe Rolaskatox saved her from going home several times over fan favorites like Alyssa Edwards and Tatianna, proving that cliques and “Drag Race” don’t always mix.

With a name like Mimi Imfurst, it was no surprise that this queen came across as pretty obnoxious when she first appeared on season three. For a queen without much screen time, she’s had her fair share of drama-filled moments. Her “Untucked” fight with Shangela is still iconic to this day, and we were just as gagged as Ru when Mimi decided to pick up her rival queen during a Lip Sync for Your Life, teaching us all that drag is NOT a contact sport. Unfortunately she didn’t manage to redeem herself in “All Stars 1”, and was criticized by the other girls in yet another Mimi-focused “Untucked” fight that left audiences shook.

The Vixen came to fight - and that’s just what she did. While The Vixen had an incredibly important point to make about how the “Drag Race” fandom have treated queens of color, her message was often overshadowed by petty drama that unfortunately took over her storyline, which peaked when she walked out of the season ten reunion episode. The Vixen has also fought with many queens since her appearance, meaning her contentious reputation hasn’t been dropped just yet. Her most recent Twitter spat with Manila Luzon took a nasty turn when she brought up Manila’s late boyfriend Sahara Davenport, in a move that had a lot of viewers declare her ‘canceled’.

Being loud and lively may be part of the Eureka brand, but there’s a fine line between bubbly and brash. When she had another shot at the crown on season ten, the return of her overbearing attitude meant she got a fair deal of bashing. She often interrupted other queens and at times came across as obnoxiously confident. Whether it was a technique to get screen time or her authentic self, a lot of viewers were not impressed - and her behavior since the show hasn’t improved her reputation. She’s got into many embarrassing fights with other queens online, and recently got into hot water when she declared she ‘wished she was black’. Yikes!

Phi Phi O’Hara was definitely the villain of season four. Viewers thought she came across as bitchy and bratty, and she was often accused of attempting to sabotage her fellow queens in the competition. She consistently flew off the handle during disagreements, most famously with winner Sharon Needles, giving us the iconic ‘go back to Party City’ argument. Despite stating how she wanted redemption when returning for “All Stars 2”, Phi Phi unfortunately did not escape the villain edit, again appearing to put doubts into the heads of her competitors and eventually being sent home in what audiences saw as a pretty satisfying moment of ru-venge.

Tyra may have won season two, but that didn’t stop her from becoming one of the most bashed queens of all time. Tyra was not popular in the werkroom - she came across as obnoxious and cocky, at times seemingly trying to annoy competitors on purpose to throw them off - resulting in the infamous ‘Tyra is a complete bitch’ moment. Since the show, Tyra has had a tumultuous career with several messy moments on Twitter in particular, sparring with other queens and even telling fans to ‘die slowly’. In 2018, many fans reported her to the FBI after fears of violence when she threatened the safety of DragCon, an event that she is now banned from attending. Oh, how the mighty fall!

It was a scandal that extended beyond the “Drag Race” fandom and entered mainstream news. While many of the queens on this list were criticized for their portrayal in the highly-produced, edited cut of a season, this was a series first. We don’t know what this season 12 queen really would’ve been like on screen because she was all but scrubbed from the final edit. As a result of several instances of sexual misconduct, Sherry Pie, whose real name is Joey Gugliemelli, was disqualified from the competition prior to the airing of the second episode. The contestant’s behavior shocked and appalled fans and fellow contestants alike, and left a cloud over a cast of queens who deserved better.
