Top 20 Pizza Food Chains
VOICE OVER: Ryan Wild WRITTEN BY: Ty Richardson
This list is guaranteed to make your mouth water! Welcome to WatchMojo, and today, we're counting down our picks for the Top 20 tastiest, gooiest, cheesiest pizza food chains! Our countdown of the top pizza food chains includes Hungry Howie's, Jet's Pizza, Round Table Pizza, California Pizza Kitchen, Domino's, and more!

#20: Blaze Pizza

Customization and artisanal crusts are the bread and butter of Blaze Pizza, and it’s why the chain has been exploding in popularity over the last several years. Whether you like your pizza to have a variety of cheeses baked in or you like to go ham on the peppers and veggies, Blaze Pizza gives you a ton of options to create the pizza of your dreams. But if you’re one of those who just wants a traditional pizza, they have their own signature flavors, too. From the fancier creations like Red Vine to the more classic and smoky BBQ Chicken, Blaze Pizza brings the heat for almost anyone who enjoys a good pie!

#19: Hungry Howie's

This franchise is best known for their flavored crusts - which options that include butter, asiago cheese, ranch, cajun, and more. But the real reason they’re on our list is for their pizza buffets! When you go to Hungry Howie's, you can expect the usual toppings - cheese, pepperoni, sausage, Hawaiian, etc. But then you get more interesting and filling pies like the Macaroni & Cheese, Chicken Bacon Ranch, Buffalo Chicken, or Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger. All of this greasy goodness works both for and against Hungry Howie’s, but when it works, it works wonders.

#18: Bertucci's

Do you prefer thin crust, or thick? Bertucci’s is on the thinner side, but honestly, it’s an excellent choice regardless of your taste in crusts. Every pizza leaves plenty of room for the toppings to work their flavorful magic, cooked to an excellent level of quality in a brick oven. Whether you choose Roasted Vegetable, Meatball Ricotta, or simple cheese pizza, Bertucci’s is a pizza chain perfect for those who enjoy a thinner crust. And you can even customize your pizza if there is a specific taste you’re craving.

#17: Pizza My Heart

On the surface, Pizza My Heart might seem somewhat gimmicky. However, once you’ve tried their award-winning pizzas, you might actually feel your mind explode. While Virgin Creek is more traditional with its layers of ricotta, garlic, roma tomatoes, and basil, no other pie comes close to the sweet and savory aroma of Watsonville Apple or the Figgy Piggy pizzas. Sure, they do also have the same sort of options you’d expect from any self-respecting pizzeria, but you’d be remiss to avoid the aforementioned specialties.

#16: Marco's Pizza

Marco’s just does not make pizza the same way other pizza joints do. It doesn’t matter if you get Hawaiian Chicken, White Cheezy, Garden, or even Deluxe - there’s just something special about their pizzas. Is it the way they bake their crusts? Is it the way they disperse toppings so that no one taste overpowers the others? Or, perhaps it’s simply how the cheese, crust, and toppings all blend together for a unique flavor. Whatever the case, one thing’s for sure: Marco’s knows how to make a damn fine pizza!

#15: Uno Pizzeria & Grill

Sometimes, a good pizzeria doesn’t need a massive list of different options. And even the most basic slices can be some of the best pizza you’ve ever had. That is the might and majesty of Uno Pizzeria & Grill. While their 100+ locations do offer other foods like soup, salad, and even cocktails, their delicious pizzas are the main draw. There just isn’t anything better than a fat slice of cheese or pepperoni to satisfy your hunger. The restaurant is best known for their Chicago-style deep dish pizza, but they do also offer thin crust options - so there really is something for everyone.

#14: Zizzi

All of us outside of the UK and Ireland are missing out! With well over 100 locations across the pond, Zizzi has been going strong since 1999, and after one taste of their pizza, you can quickly see why folks have been flocking there. While they offer a plethora of other non-pizza food options, you absolutely must try their Rustica Pizzas. Yes, they are essentially flatbreads, yet their variety is impressive: Pinoli, Primavera, Meat Sofia, Piccante, and you can even get two halves if you can’t decide on one! Needless to say, it’s impossible to not find a Rustica Pizza you love from Zizzi!

#13: Jet's Pizza

Apparently, the recipe for Jet’s Pizza, which came from the founders’ mother, hasn’t changed since 1978 - and there’s a good reason for that! Every slice of this square deep-dish Detroit-style pizza comes with a delicious strand of cheese from adjoining slices. Meat lovers won’t turn down Jet’s either, as the chain boasts a hearty selection of meat-based pies. Would you like Buffalo Ranch Chicken or Chicken Bacon Ranch? Or would you like the zesty Eugene Supreme or the signature Jet 10? Your options are packed with intense flavors and the gooiest cheese out there. Just try not to make too much of a mess.

#12: Giordano's

Despite having been around since 1974, Giordano’s is one of the smaller chains on our list, even smaller than Uno! But don’t let the size of the company define its quality. As with any other pizza joint, you can expect the usual cheese, pepperoni, sausage, and more. But if you want to see what makes Giordano’s so great, you must have a slice of their deep dish and stuffed pizzas! This chain nails both styles of pies in a way no other chain comes close to. Just don’t be surprised if you wind up with a hefty amount of leftovers for the week.

#11: Chuck E. Cheese

We can admit that the quality of a Chuck E. Cheese pizza will entirely depend on your location. When the pizza is bad, well it can be bad. When it’s good, it can forever define a kids’ birthday party. There just simply wasn’t an experience quite like going to Chuck E. Cheese, enjoying some gooey cheese or pepperoni pizza, and then, jumping into the ball pit or wandering the arcade floor afterwards. Though the business has declined in recent years as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, there’s still a whole generation of folks who will swear by the mouse.

#10: Sbarro

For the longest time, you couldn’t walk through a shopping mall food court, an airport terminal, or the streets of New York without encountering this familiar pizzeria. Having filed for bankruptcy twice, Sbarro isn’t quite as widespread as it once was. When people do come across this chain, though, they’re certain to suddenly develop a craving for Italian food. Whether you’re in the mood for a traditional New York slice, stuffed pizza, or Stromboli, Sbarro remains the perfect place for a quick bite.

#9: Mellow Mushroom

This hip, laidback restaurant initially gained popularity on college campuses. Over the years, however, locations have expanded to urban areas for everyone to enjoy. In that sense, Mellow Mushroom is kind of like the Facebook of pizza places. In addition to having a refreshingly groovy decor, the chain also offers a distinctive selection of sandwiches, calzones, and of course pizzas. The thick, savory crust brings every Mellow Mushroom pizza full circle, complete with mouthwatering cheese and sauce. Plus, is there a funkier mascot out there than Mel O. Mushroom?

#8: Cicis

Sometimes people can have a hard time deciding what toppings to put on a pizza. If you’re in the mood for a little bit of everything, this buffet restaurant is bound to leave you satisfied. Cicis allows their customers to try a wide range of different pizzas. In addition to having traditional tastes, their menu also includes adventurous items like Mac & Cheese pizza. If you’re more into deep dish or flatbread, Cicis has you covered in those departments as well. Depending on the extent of your appetite, you’ll want to grab a slice of every pizza Cicis has on display.

#7: Round Table Pizza

With its festive renaissance fair atmosphere, Round Table Pizza is the ideal restaurant for families. It’s also a hot spot for birthday parties and other celebrations. As for the pizza, it’s a feast fit for a king. From Montague’s All Meat Marvel, to Guinevere’s Garden Delight, to King Arthur's Supreme, the menu has no shortage of legendary combinations. Some locations even include a buffet with plenty of cuisine to go around. If there isn’t a Round Table Pizza in your kingdom, embark on a delicious quest and seek out this enchanting eatery.

#6: Papa Murphy's

Papa Murphy’s combines the quality of takeout pizza with the convenience of frozen pizza. In a highly innovative setup, the pizza is prepared at the establishment, but the customer must bake it at home. While that might sound like extra work, this take-and-bake system allows people to get their pizza hot and fresh out of the oven. Papa Murphy’s also lets patrons customize their pie, whether you’re in the mood for thin crust, stuffed crust, or pan. Don’t forget to pick up a delectable s'mores pizza for dessert!

#5: California Pizza Kitchen

California doesn’t get as much credit for their pizza as New York or Chicago. However, you can always rely on CPK to deliver a flavorful personal pie, be it crispy thin crust or hand-tossed. Naturally specializing in California-style pizza, this restaurant chain serves up a variety of unique, inventive dishes. While we’re not sure if their Original BBQ Chicken Pizza is actually the Original BBQ Chicken Pizza, it is scrumptious as is everything else on their lengthy menu. As far as casual dining experiences go, California Pizza Kitchen is as classy as it gets.

#4: Little Caesars

Julius Caesar once famously said, “I came, I saw, I conquered.” A competitive eater would likely say the same thing if they downed a bacon-wrapped deep dish pizza from Little Caesars. Known for their HOT-N-READY products, this successful pizza franchise offers speedy service and cheap prices. On top of that, it was one of the first pizza chains to include a drive-through window and to be featured in stadiums. Most importantly, their pizza and crazy bread are simply irresistible. What else can be said except, “Pizza! Pizza!”

#3: Domino's

How can you go wrong with a pizza endorsed by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Domino’s has been an iconic pizza chain for decades, but it’s undergone some major changes in the past few years. Approaching its fiftieth anniversary, the company decided to reinvent their pizza recipe to appease customers. If you ask most pizza munchers, Domino’s has changed for the better with zestier sauce, richer crust, and more flavorful cheese. Even if you’re nostalgic for the old recipe, Domino’s pizza is sure to tickle your taste buds. That is unless the Noid ruins it…

#2: Papa John's

“Better ingredients. Better pizza.” Papa John’s has always lived by that motto, delivering one of the most explosively delicious pizzas in the fast food industry. Complete with succulent cheese and heavenly crust, every slice of Papa John’s pizza tastes like a Super Bowl party in your mouth. Speaking of football, the company has notably become the official pizza of the NFL, even picking up Peyton Manning as a spokesperson. Despite starting off in the broom closet of his father’s tavern, John Schnatter’s creation has truly grown into a pizza phenomenon.

#1: Pizza Hut

It's hard to beat a pie from Pizza Hut. Sure, it might not seem glamorous or fancy, but pizza lovers can’t help but get excited every time they see that red roof. Aside from its juicy cheese and savory sauce, Pizza Hut primarily stands out thanks to its crust. Their stuffed crust in particular may even have you eating your pizza backwards. The very definition of comfort food, it’s not at all surprising that Pizza Hut is still the top pizza retailer in the world. By the way, are we the only ones that really miss those Pizza Head commercials?
