#20: Mob vs. Mogami

“Mob Psycho 100” (2016-22)

There are plenty of incredible looking fights in this supernatural action-comedy, yet we’d argue this is the wildest. Kageyama “Mob” Shigeo is trapped in the mindscape of Mogami, a powerful fellow psychic turned evil spirit. Tormented by the voices of the dead, Mob is almost ready to give up, but then remembers that he came to save someone. His powers going to 100%, the middle schooler turns his formidable abilities against Mogami. The crazy, “Inception”-esque city/skyscape makes for a larger-than-life setting, while the two combatants’ psychic powers cause immense and astonishing destruction! Mob may not have life figured out, but his show has great fight scenes down to a science!

#19: Marcille vs. Undine

“Delicious in Dungeon” (2024-)

In a dungeon, even something as mundane as tossing out water can lead to danger. Elf mage Marcille discovers this to her cost, as her bit of housekeeping inadvertently disturbs an undine, a mobile mass of water. Between the POV shots and the gorgeous water effects, it’s a stunningly animated sequence. Stranded on the water, low on magic, and without her staff, Marcille has to improvise, eventually spotting the creature colored with her own blood and using an attack to injure it and launch herself to safety! It’s not a particularly important fight, but it still goes ham! Then again, “Delicious in Dungeon” is done by Studio Trigger, and they’re generally the opposite of “restrained.”

#18: Suletta vs. Elan

“Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury” (2022-23)

Mecha fights tend to feature some great visual spectacles and this modern entry in the “Gundam” franchise is no exception! Suletta Mercury duels Elan Ceres with their mobile suits in space, with Suletta putting her own suit on the line, and Elan being forced to be open about himself, should he lose. Uneven bets aside, the two mobile suits’ spaceborne battle is a veritable dance of lasers, flying GUND-BITS, and other weaponry. Although Elan seems sure to win, just when he has Suletta cornered, her GUND-BITS surround her and release an EMP, securing her the win. Elan’s loss may make for a poor birthday present for him, but the fight is still a celebration of impeccably realized visuals.

#17: Sunraku vs. Wethermon the Tombguard

“Shangri-La Frontier” (2023-)

Sure, Sunraku’s party members Oikatzo and Arthur Pencilgon are technically in the fight too. But while they’re dealing with a giant robot horse, Sunraku the bird-headed glass cannon is left to solo Wezaemon the Tombguard. Even Sunraku has trouble keeping up with the zombie cyber samurai’s speed! Their swift exchanges and Wezaemon’s continuous switching of his attack patterns leaves the birdman on his toes - and needing frequent rezzes, sometimes from himself! Ultimately, it all comes down to Sunraku having to perfectly parry Wezaemon’s ultimate move. In an impressively animated clash, Sunraku succeeds, shattering not only the undead samurai’s sword, but his armor as well! Wezaemon is laid to rest, but we’re wide awake and ready to watch this fight repeatedly!

#16: Bojji vs. Bosse

“Ranking of Kings” (2021-)

The odds have always been stacked against the pint-sized prince Bojji, but his greatest challenge comes in the form of his own dad, Bosse. After his gigantic father has possessed Bojji’s brother Daida from beyond the grave, it’s up to Bojji to take his papa down. Bojji dodging Bosse’s titanic strikes and gradually whittling down Bosse’s weapon is positively breathtaking with how fluidly it's executed. As much as the quality of what’s on screen has us cheering, we’re even more excited to see the culmination of Bojji’s journey from laughing stock to having the last laugh on the strongest man in the kingdom.

#15: Gunbuster vs. Space Monsters

“Gunbuster” (1988-89)

Never let it be said that we can’t appreciate the classics! While escorting a ship under attack from space monsters, Amano Kazumi, with encouragement from Takaya Noriko overcomes some bad news and combines their ships into the titular mecha, Gunbuster. Even decades after its debut, this fight scene is positively gorgeous, with the duo using new attack after new attack to destroy and practically delete the surrounding creatures! Homing lasers, lightning kicks, and explosions galore ensue! This early Gainax production really showed what the studio was capable of, since it still looks great today!

#14: Shinra vs. Sho

“Fire Force” (2019-20)

Is this the most epic game of tag ever put on screen? Quite possibly. Kusakabe Shinra’s reunion with his little brother Sho is marred by his white-haired sibling having been abducted and brainwashed from a young age. Amid Shinra’s attempts to reach him, their fight/game of tag accelerates to increasingly ridiculous speeds! Sho’s ability to stop time seems insurmountable. That is until Shinra forms a link with Sho, allowing him to take his Adola Burst to speeds faster than light! Filled with emotions, speedy animation, and dramatic lighting, this brotherly battle was a choice so natural, it practically happened at lightspeed!

#13: Bercouli vs. Vecta

“Sword Art Online: Alicization” (2018-20)

“SAO” delivers some great visuals with its fight scenes, but this one is something special. Integrity Knight Bercouli Herlentz chases down Vecta and engages him in a duel. The fight is loaded with some fantastic imagery, from Bercouli running on air, to the numerous slow-motion shots, to the fast parrying of blows between the combatants. Unfortunately, Vecta’s ability to stun his foes leaves Bercouli down an arm. However, he persists, and the knight is eventually able to use his Time Piercing Sword to precisely strike Vecta in the past, emerging victorious - though at the cost of his life. We can’t go back and watch this fight again for the first time, unfortunately, but we’ll doubtless return to it in the future!

#12: Shigaraki vs. Star & Stripe

“My Hero Academia” (2016-)

When the number one hero in America comes to Japan’s aid, the results are epic indeed! Confronted immediately by Tomura Shigaraki/All for One in the air, Star and Stripe and her bros in Bravo squad do everything they can to take him down. Star’s Quirk lets her impose new rules on whatever she touches, letting her pull off some moves with striking visuals, like holding lasers, creating a gigantic air version of herself, and a cruise missile punch! However, Shigaraki escapes death and manages to steal Star’s quirk and kill her. But, despite her death, Star gets revenge by imposing an order on her own quirk to destroy Shigaraki’s from the inside! We have to salute the grandeur of this brief, yet impactful battle!

#11: Levi vs. Kenny’s Squad

“Attack on Titan” (2013-23)

While this series generally goes gigantic with its fight scenes, one of its most dazzling doesn’t involve titans at all! Levi and his squad members are ambushed by Kenny, a man with whom Levi has a history, as well as a squad of military police. One part fight and another part chase sequence, the incredibly fluid way Levi evades his pursuers through the streets by maneuvering over and around obstacles with his ODM gear is truly phenomenal! After briefly getting cornered in a bar, Levi bursts out and sets out to rescue Eren and Historia, using both his grapple hooks and his swords to slice his way to them. Humanity’s strongest soldier never disappoints and neither does this battle!

#10: Sieg vs. Karna

“Fate/Apocrypha” (2017)

It wouldn’t be a list of visually stunning anime fights without “Fate!” Sieg’s battle against Karna is completely awe-inspiring! The duo uses their Noble Phantasms against one another in displays so powerful that they reshape the landscape around them! The animation, music, and scale of the fight are all absolutely top notch! After an eleventh hour assist from Rider, Sieg manages to get an opening that lets him defeat Karna at last. The imagery of the fight is so impressive, it’s no wonder that Karna’s such a good sport about losing - not a bad sight to see before the end.

#9: Asta & Yuno vs. Licht

“Black Clover” (2017-21)

These two besties/rivals get plenty of downright magical looking fight scenes, but this tag-team match against the resurrected king of elves is something special indeed! Casually outspeeding both of them and even stealing one of Asta’s swords, Licht proves overwhelming, managing to absorb and release magic attacks back at them, all while running rings around the duo. Asta is briefly put out of action, but manages to come back just in time for a team-up attack with Yuno. Not only is the color drained from the scene, but the theme song even plays! The fluid animation, great sense of speed, and beautifully attacks make this a fight that repeatedly surpasses its own limits!

#8: Everyone vs. Pucci

“JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” (2012-)

Fights in “JoJo” are always a wild ride, but the finale of “Stone Ocean” is on another level entirely! Jolyne, Jotaro, and the Green Dolphin Street Prison gang confront Enrico Pucci at Cape Canaveral. The mad priest’s Stand has evolved into the incredibly powerful Made in Heaven, which lets him accelerate time on a universal scale, though only for non-living things. Pucci is able to kill almost all the heroes in this fight, thanks to how overpowered he is. The time acceleration and eventual aquatic setting lead to some amazing visuals, but the fruition of his plan is even more breathtaking! Pucci basically accelerates time so much that the universe resets entirely, leading to some truly inexplicable imagery! Emporio goes on quite the trip!

#7: Gogeta vs. Broly

“Dragon Ball Super: Broly” (2018)

When it comes to larger-than-life anime battles, “Dragon Ball” is one of the biggest names in the business! This movie fight sees Vegeta and Goku fuse into Gogeta to combat the rampaging legendary Super Saiyan, Broly. All the usual yelling, power-ups, and beams are here, but turned up to 11! The speed, dynamic camera angles, and crazy visuals, like the combatants breaking through multiple dimensions help make this into a fight so spectacular, it’s like someone made a wish on the Dragon Balls! Speaking of which, Broly gets a last-minute save from the magical, wish-granting orbs. Even if he lives to fight another day, we have a hard time believing his next battle will be able to top this one!

#6: Yuji vs. Choso

“Jujutsu Kaisen” (2020-)

Amid all the incredible supernatural action in “JJK,” this fight still manages to stand out. Itadori Yuji is challenged by Choso when the protagonist arrives in a subway station. The revenge-fueled antagonist is out for blood after Yuji killed his brothers, and he’s willing to use his own blood to do it! To disrupt Choso’s powers, Yuji retreats to a bathroom and sets off the sprinklers, evening the playing field. The fight lasts for basically an entire episode, and it has non-stop gorgeous animation, supplemented by fantastic choreography, beautiful lighting, and a climax that blows not only our minds but Choso’s as well!

#5: Demon Slayers vs. Daki & Gyutaro

“Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” (2019-)

Tanjiro and company’s lengthy battle against brother and sister demons Daki and Gyutaro is a veritable feast for the eyes! Their clash takes them all over the entertainment district, while also basically leveling it! Every character gets a time to shine, and shine they do with attacks that are not only speedy, but flashy as well! And it all builds into one epic and emotional dual strike that sees not only the characters, but the animators surpass their limits! Ufotable have really outdone themselves with this one - and considering their track record, that’s quite the achievement!

#4: Yamamoto vs. Yhwach

“Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War” (2022-)

Upon its revival, “Bleach” really stepped up its animation game - and the moment the Gotei 13’s leader Captain Yamamoto finally debuted his Bankai pushed it even further! Yamamoto’s battle with the Quincy leader Yhwach sees him unleash flames of incredible potency and even summon the skeletons of everyone he’s ever killed! The fiery, terrifying visuals practically scorch themselves onto our eyes, they’re that fantastic! Although victory seems assured for the Shinigami, the Yhwach he fights initially is just a decoy, and the real deal steals that powerful Bankai and cuts him down with some brilliantly blue attacks. The fight may mark Yamamoto’s last stand, but he truly goes out in a blaze of glory!

#3: Naruto & Sasuke vs. Momoshiki

“Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” (2017-)

When these fated rivals team up, it’s always extraordinary, but this fight takes the cake! Naruto and Sasuke both battle the overpowered Ōtsutsuki clan member, Momoshiki. While the white-faced, horned man appears to have the advantage at first, once the Konoha ninjas get into a groove, they’re nearly unstoppable! The detail of the choreography is astounding! There are callbacks to early fights in the franchise! And when the fight transitions to kaiju scale, the destruction gets even more breathtaking! Boruto may sneak in to steal his dad’s thunder, but this fight is a victory for Naruto, Sasuke, and everyone watching it!

#2: Saitama vs. Boros

“One Punch Man” (2015-)

When an alien conqueror arrives on Earth, it’s only natural that the strongest hero faces him! Saitama may be nonplussed by Boros’ “supreme” and “immeasurable” power, but the villain’s clash with the undefeatable hero is one for the ages! The duo tear their way through Boros’ gigantic ship, and Saitama is even sent flying to the moon - and back! Their final use of their ultimate moves against each other is quite the lightshow and alters the weather! The meticulously realized environments, the speed of the combatants, and the gloriously illustrated attacks and transformations never fail to astound us! Saitama may be too strong, but we’d argue that the animators are even stronger!

#1: Luffy vs. Kaido

“One Piece” (1999-)

Few anime fights have broken the internet multiple times! The future Pirate King’s battle against Kaido of the Four Emperors has many stages, from the opening Roof Piece tag team, to their initial one-on-one, to the debut of Luffy’s cartoonish Gear 5th, and they’re all absolutely stunning throughout! Moments like the sky splitting from their clash, Luffy going giant or catching lightning, and his final, gigantic punch to take Kaido down are so exquisite that we have as much trouble keeping our eyes inside our heads as the characters do! This fight’s visuals redefined what some of us thought possible for not only “One Piece,” but anime in general!

Is there an anime fight with mind-blowing visuals that we forgot? Leave us dumbfounded with your favorites in the comments!
