Taking on the lead role in this romantic drama, Moretz gives a layered performance as a teenage girl who must decide whether or not to continue living after being involved in a tragic car accident. While the film is primarily about the relationship between Moretz’s character Mia and her boyfriend Adam, there are a number of supernatural plot devices that provide a much-needed twist on a tired genre. While the film may not have won any Oscars, it more than holds its own against some of the other romance flicks of the past few years. Leading the way is Chloë Grace Moretz and her ability to infuse energy into any role she takes on.

#4: Alina/"Teri" “The Equalizer” (2014)

In this no-holds-barred action thrill ride, a former black ops specialist must come out of retirement in order to help a young prostitute facing abuse from her Russian handlers. Moretz plays Alina, aka Teri, the aforementioned call girl who runs into some high stakes trouble. While the prostitute with a heart of gold archetype has been played out more times than we care to mention, Ms. Moretz still manages to bring something unique to the role. Impassioned acting from start to finish, the American-born actress more than holds her own next to Hollywood icon Denzel Washington. If you’re looking for a fun action flick that doesn’t take itself too seriously… this one is for you.

#3: Isabelle “Hugo” (2011)

Often known for playing characters with fast mouths and even faster kicking abilities, Moretz dialed it back for this role. Directed by the illustrious Martin Scorsese, this period piece takes place in 1930’s Paris, as a young boy named Hugo attempts to unravel a mystery set in motion by his late father. Moretz plays Isabelle, the granddaughter of renowned film director Georges Méliès. The talented actress imbues a youthfulness to her character that allows the audience to run parallel to the action, as if they too were a Parisian teen on the adventure of a lifetime. Standing out in a Scorsese film can be a tall task, but Moretz more than lives up to the challenge.

#2: Abby “Let Me In” (2010)

After the success of 2008’s “Let the Right One In,” it was only a matter of time before the Swedish horror film was remade for North American audiences. Luckily for fans of the vampire genre, Chloë Grace Moretz was cast in the lead role of Abby – a vampire who moves to a new town and forms a relationship with her neighbor. The film received widespread acclaim, with many citing Moretz’s standout performance as the ageless bloodsucker for being particularly stirring in nature. While the film itself wasn’t exactly a box office smash, the subtle directing and strong acting from Moretz and her co-stars made it one of 2010’s best.

#1: Hit-Girl/Mindy McCready “Kick-Ass” (2010)

At just 13 years of age, Moretz leapt off the screen and into the hearts of audiences worldwide as the foul-mouthed tween assassin with a violent penchant for killing gangsters. While the character of Hit-Girl may not be the protagonist in this comic book adaptation, she certainly steals the show – brilliantly brought to life by Moretz and her ability to command a scene from start to finish. Showing an impressive amount of range for someone her age, this young actress didn’t hold anything back when it came time to shoot. Easily her most famous role to date, we wouldn’t be surprised if she ends up in a Tarantino flick before her career in done. Do you agree with our list?
