#5: Bryan Cranston Allegedly Auditioned for the Show
As is often the case with casting info for any TV show or movie, information is sparse on this one, but sources say that Bryan Cranston of “Breaking Bad” fame threw his name in the hat to play Morty’s hapless dad, Jerry. While it’s hard to imagine the same man who provided Walter White’s gruff voice portraying the submissive and spineless Jerry, we would love to see Cranston make a guest appearance on the show.

The multidimensional TV box has led to some of the most laugh out loud moments of the series. As the Smiths flip through the channels, they happen upon a variety of commercials and movie trailers from the alternate realities that they’re tapping into. These are hilarious on their own, but if you know how they was created, you’ll appreciate them even more. Turn out all of the ridiculous commercials that we get to see were totally improvised. If you pay close attention, you can tell that sometimes the voice actors laugh or stumble over their words, and the show even breaks the fourth wall to adress it.
#3: Justin Roiland Wrote the Song “Get Schwifty” When He Was a Kid
The hilarious and catchy song that appears in this episode by the same name has a nasty habit of getting stuck in your head. As it turns out, it’s actually been in co-creator Justin Roiland’s head longer than the show has. Roiland, who says he has always had a passion for music, allegedly wrote and recorded the song “Get Schwifty” many years ago, long before there was a Rick or a Morty to perform it. While that original recording hasn’t been made public, we’d sure love to hear it!

While you can watch “Rick and Morty” simply to laugh at the absurdist scenarios, every episode features thought provoking undertones if you look for them. The show takes some dark twists and turns throughout the series by addressing more serious metaphysical questions is clearly part of the show’s intention. Justin Roiland has said that he created the characters of Rick and Morty – perhaps unintentionally - to represent the two sides of his personality, and to act as a personification of bipolar disorder. Considering the opposing traits that the two have, it’s safe to say that Roiland has succeeded.

If you’ve already watched all the available Rick & Morty content a few dozen times, and simply can’t wait for the next season to come out, well… we may have some good news for you. Before his show was picked up by Adult Swim, Justin Roiland created an animated short that functioned as a parody of “Back to the Future.” It’s called "The Real Animated Adventures of Doc and Mharti" and can easily be found online. Though their names might different, and the animation style is significantly less refined, you’ll recognize the characters as early prototypes of the grandfather and grandson pairing you’ve grown to love.
