Top 5 Reasons Destiny 2 Is Better Than Destiny 1
Well that was certainly an improvement. Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’re counting down our picks for the top five reasons why “Destiny 2” is better than “Destiny.”
For this list, we’ll be looking at various reasons as to why “Destiny 2” received much higher praise than the original.
#5: More Things To Do
For such a big game, “Destiny” was disappointingly barren. Luckily for us all, this is certainly not the case with “Destiny 2.” Not only did the patrol missions carry over from the original, but we now have Adventures, which are essentially dungeon-crawling treasure hunts. There are also locations called Lost Sectors, which are hidden areas containing various pieces of loot and a special boss. On top of the new activities, the game focuses much more heavily on exploration, which is good, seeing as how the maps are much larger than the ones found in the original. It seems as if there’s always something to do or see within the world of “Destiny 2.”
#4: Easier Navigation Within the World
All we can say is, thank God for maps. There wasn’t a map in the original “Destiny,” and it made getting around its world a real pain. It required you to memorize the map and all its locations, and riding around on the sparrow grew extremely tiresome. For the sequel, navigation was made so much easier due to the inclusion of the map, which tells you the locations of Adventures, Lost Sectors, patrol beacons, etc. To make things even better, the map allows for fast travel, which cuts out the needless jumping back and forth and repetitive sparrow rides. It’s much more streamlined, and the game is all the better for it.
#3: Levelling Up Your Character is Much Easier
While there is still a grindy feel to the character progression system in this game, there’s no denying that it has been streamlined and made much easier. Not only are there plenty more activities to choose from, but the engram system is much better than the one found in “Destiny.” In the previous game, you needed to equip your best items to ensure that the loot would be greater than or equal to what you owned. This time, the game figures out your best level without the need of equipping and gives you gear of a higher level, making progression much easier and much less frustrating.
#2: Guided Game System
“Destiny” has always been a social experience. It’s not only a much better game when played with friends, but some of the end-game content, like nightfalls and raids, are blocked to solo players. Because of this, the lone wolves miss out on various activities. Luckily for them, Bungie has implemented the Guided Game system for “Destiny 2,” and it is awesome. Essentially, the system allows for a solo player to join a clan via a newly implemented matchmaking system. It allows everyone to feel included, and it ensures that everyone can experience everything that the game has to offer.
#1: Much Better Story
We cannot emphasize enough how much better the story is in “Destiny 2” and how much of an impact it has on the overall experience. The stakes are high from the jump, as Ghaul lays waste to the Tower and steals the light from the Guardians. It grabs your attention and never lets go - even though you get the light back, like, five seconds later. Not only is the set-up good, but the story is littered with interesting characters, hilarious banter, and the kind of interesting world-building elements that were noticeably lacking in the first game.
