Top 5 Reasons You Need to See Christopher Robin (2018)

Paddington isn't the only silly old bear bound to win over audiences in 2018. For this list we're counting down our picks for the Top 5 Reasons to Watch Christopher Robin! Are you excited for the movie?

#5: It’s Not the Only 2010s Christopher Robin Movie

It’s hard to talk about this film without bringing up another recent Christopher Robin movie. “Goodbye Christopher Robin” explores the relationship between author A. A. Milne and his son Billy Moon, aka Christopher Robin. Their walks together in the woods and Billy’s stuffed animals would inspire the original Winnie the Pooh stories. Although Milne brought joy to children all over the world, his own son was neglected and burdened to live under the shadow of fame. “Goodbye Christopher Robin” was overlooked upon release, but it’s a truly fascinating biographical drama about the loss of childhood. With one Christopher Robin movie grounded in fact and the other in fiction, why not make it a double feature?

#4: Marc Forster Is Directing

Marc Forster’s directing credits include hard-hitting dramas like “Monster’s Ball,” action thrillers like “World War Z,” and massive franchise flicks like “Quantum of Solace.” Based on those titles, Forster might seem like an odd choice to direct a Winnie the Pooh movie, but his filmography isn’t all gloom and doom. Forster also directed the Best Picture nominated “Finding Neverland,” which dramatized writer J. M. Barrie’s creation of Peter Pan. In addition, Forster brought us “Stranger than Fiction,” a charming comedy that blurred the lines between reality and fantasy. Given Forster’s knack for combining drama with whimsy, he’s clearly the ideal candidate to bring “Christopher Robin” to life.

#3: The Live-Action Cast

In Disney’s live-action version of “Beauty and the Beast,” Ewan McGregor provided the voice of Lumière. Where McGregor spent a majority of that film as a CGI candelabra, he’ll have much more face time as the title character in “Christopher Robin”. McGregor will be sharing the screen with an assortment of animated animals, as well as several other live-action cast members. Christopher’s wife is being played by Hayley Atwell, who previously portrayed Cinderella’s mother and of course Agent Carter. Bronte Carmichael will take on the biggest role of her young career so far as Christopher’s daughter. The film additionally stars Mark Gatiss of “Game of Thrones,” “Sherlock,” and “Doctor Who” as Christopher’s no-nonsense boss.

#2: The Returning & New Voice Cast

Disney has enlisted several acclaimed character actors to voice Christopher’s cuddly friends, including Sophie Okonedo as Kanga, Peter Capaldi as Rabbit, Nick Mohammed as Piglet, and Toby Jones as Owl. Brad Garrett, who previously voiced Eeyore in a CD-ROM game, will return to play the melancholy donkey here. He’s not the only one venturing back to the Hundred Acre Wood. Jim Cummings, who has voiced Winnie the Pooh since 1988, is reprising his role as the bear of very little brain. Cummings is also known for voicing Tigger, who was initially going to be played by Chris O'Dowd in “Christopher Robin.” Cummings has since taken over the part, though, which has us bouncing with anticipation.

#1: It’s a Brand New ADORABLE Winnie the Pooh Story

It’s been seven years since we last saw the Hundred Acre Wood gang on the silver screen. What’s more, “Christopher Robin” is arriving in time for the 15th anniversary of “Piglet’s Big Movie,” the 30th anniversary of “The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh,” and the 50th anniversary of the Oscar-winning “Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day.” Above all else, we’re excited for the original story the filmmakers have cooked up. While the film draws inspiration form A. A. Milne’s work, “Christopher Robin” also appears to have echoes of “Mary Poppins,” “Where the Wild Things Are,” and other beloved films about connecting with one’s inner child. Sounds as appetizing as a pot of honey!
