#5: “Pray for Me”
The Weeknd & Kendrick Lamar
It’s about time these two gave us another team-up. Featuring a heavy, futuristic beat that sounds like it could have fit right in on The Weeknd’s last album Starboy, it’s the Toronto singer’s passionate chorus that makes this track one to have on repeat. With lyrics that showcase our hero T’Challa’s stance on the film’s events, its use in the movie itself was both symbolic and empowering. “Pray for Me” closes off the record, and leaves the listener feeling hopeful, as Kendrick Lamar’s outro acts as the bookend to this stellar playlist that he has compiled.
#4: “Seasons”
Mozzy, Sjava & Reason
While the Black Panther soundtrack features mostly the best in A-list musical talent, that’s not to say Kendrick doesn’t try to expose the world to some great lesser-known talent as well. Featuring some lyrics in the Zulu language courtesy of Sjava, this track’s international flavor is what really makes it a serious standout. Of course, you also have Mozzy and Reason, who serve up some impressive flows in a slow jam that will hopefully make these underground names some serious ones to watch!

Kendrick Lamar & SZA
At this point, it’s no secret that Kendrick and relative newcomer SZA work insanely well together. As the lead single from the soundtrack album, the inspiring track complements these label-mates flawlessly while also showcasing each artist’s distinct style. Before the track comes to a climactic close, orchestral strings hang in the background, as SZA’s vocals become stronger. The song quickly became a monster hit for the two artists, who find themselves at the top of their game in 2018, and the track’s music video is chock full of stunning imagery.
#2: “Opps”
Vince Staples & Yugen Blakrok
Alright, now we start getting into the heavy stuff. Vince Staples’ last album, Big Fish Theory featured some thumping club beats that made for one of the most exciting listens of the year. This track, which sees him teaming up with South African rapper Yugen Blakrok, follows the same formula to create an unrelenting three minutes of head-banging goodness! Of course, the song’s use in the film and trailer are just as epic!

Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Future & James Blake
It can often be hard to fit so many artists onto one track, but for this single, which features Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Future and James Blake, they managed to make it work and then some. Featuring one of the most impressive verses Kendrick’s released thus far, there’s no shortage of surprises from the other artists on this track as well, including a seriously strange line delivery from Future. With the R&B stylings of James Blake and a music video so insane, how could you possibly not love “King’s Dead”?
