#10: “No Lie” Sean Paul feat. Dua Lipa

Also in:

Top 10 Songs Of Summer 2017 – The Best of WatchMojo!

Featuring an iconic Jamaican artist and a fresh new voice from the UK, this joint exudes pure summer energy. Though it’s not always easy to decipher Sean Paul’s flow in “No Lie”, it’s hypnotic indeed and loaded with his usual bravado. Plus, Dua Lipa’s catchy hooks make for an anthemic chorus, leading up to a definitive nightlife statement for the summer. Produced by Sermstyle and Pip Kembo, the dancehall-inspired “No Lie’ made the rounds well before Summer 2017, yet it remains one of those infectious songs that will kick off the party right.

#9:“It Ain’t Me” Kygo & Selena Gomez

Also in:

Top 10 Selena Gomez Songs

Given the sound design of this pop collaboration, it’s most definitely ideal for beach days and afternoon lounging. Furthermore, it’s not your typical Selena Gomez song, as she essentially takes a backseat to the music by delivering subdued yet evocative vocals. On a summer playlist, “It Ain’t Me” fits somewhere right in the middle, as it’s neither a banger nor a traditional party song. Then again, it’s not something that will put you to sleep either, but rather a road-tripping jam to enjoy with the windows down and your hair blowing in the wind.

#8: “Stay” Zedd & Alessia Cara

Also in:

Cultural Vultures Stay

So, here’s a summer anthem that stands out with its pacing and structure. On vocals, you’ve got Alessia Cara establishing the mood with lyrical references to staying “forever young.” To complement that vibe, Zedd provides some precision production for the declarative chorus. Whereas some tracks focus on getting wild and living in the moment, “Stay” is geared more towards couples that are looking to savor their summer together. It’s a love song, but one that will definitely get your head bobbing.

#7: “Passionfruit” Drake

Produced by Nana Rogues, this track had fans buzzing upon initial release. Right off the bat, “Passionfruit” just feels like THE summer jam, and the conversational intro further establishes the relaxed vibe. Like so many of Drake’s most commercially viable hits, he infuses “Passionfruit” with some velvety vocals. While the track definitely has the familiar dancehall-derived sound, it’s the underlying groove that makes “Passionfruit” a legit summertime production. It’s smooth across the board - a summer jam that will be the foundation for many memories of the season.

#6: “Shape of You” Ed Sheeran

As one of the most popular singer-songwriters of his time, Ed Sheeran has major influence within pop culture. So, when he comes out swinging with a dancehall track, people pay close attention. With “Shape of You,” Sheeran offers a little something for everybody. There’s the clever wordplay, there’s the minimalistic sound design, and his vocal acrobatics make “Shape of You” a seriously catchy song. In fact, one could argue that it may become TOO popular by summer’s end, but let’s be real – it’s the summer song that you need.

#5: “Run Up” Major Lazer feat. PartyNextDoor and Nicki Minaj

Also in:

Top 10 Nicki Minaj Songs

While this single was released in January 2017, it’s one of those quintessential Major Lazer productions that peaks during summertime. Musically, the dancehall beat stays balanced throughout while Nicki Minaj and PartyNextDoor keep it loose with their accompanying vocals. As a result, everything fuses together beautifully in “Run Up,” making it a party jam that will be on repeat all summer. It’s a not necessarily a party-starter, but more of tone setter in general. In other words, “Run Up” will keep the upbeat vibe flowing at summer parties.

#4: “That’s What I Like” Bruno Mars

Also in:

Top 10 Songs You Didn't Know Were Written By Bruno Mars

With its “New Jack Swing” production and feel-good qualities, this track was seemingly built specifically for summer.  It’s got plenty of attitude, and it’s also a song that you and the crew can easily sing along to as well. So, when you’re kicking back, a track like this simply makes summer life better, which only leads to memorable experiences. While some artists try too hard to deliver the ultimate summer anthem, this Bruno classic is just a slick and well-executed production that will remind you to loosen up and have fun.

#3: “Humble” Kendrick Lamar

If you’re looking to activate “Summer Beast Mode”, this is your track. Produced by the prolific Mike Will Made It, “Humble” is most definitely raw, supported by Kendrick’s immaculate flow. This song will get you amped up, and you probably know a few people that will REALLY get amped up when “Humble” hits. It’s also a song that you can see people trying to memorize and perform at summer gatherings, which may or may not be a good thing. It’s a gritty production by one of music’s most respected artists, and the wicked beat will have people bumping “Humble” all summer long.

#2: “I Feel It Coming” The Weeknd feat. Daft Punk

Also in:

Top 10 Daft Punk Songs

For this track, a tandem of pop icons channel early 80s Michael Jackson, and it’s pure magic. The second offering from The Weeknd and Daft Punk’s collaborations, “I Feel It Coming” hits that sweet spot with nostalgic appeal and catchy lyrics. It’s an inviting song, as it could make you want to dance or perhaps spend quality time with that special someone. Whatever the case, it’s a non-aggressive summer anthem featuring two of music’s biggest acts, and it’s a song that won’t fade away, even at summer’s end.
Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.   “Malibu”
 Miley Cyrus

“Something Just Like This” The Chainsmokers & Coldplay
“Green Light” Lorde

#1: “Slide” Calvin Harris feat. Frank Ocean & Migos

On paper, this track has extraordinary commercial value given the names attached. Yet, it’s the production value that makes “Slide” a quintessential song for your 2017 summer. Frank Ocean’s vocals seamlessly blend with the Calvin Harris production, while the Migos crew bring their usual energy and astounding flow. With “Slide,” Harris combines different musical genres to create a specific feel, and the featured acts make their presence known without overriding the sound design. “Slide” exudes positive summer vibes, which is exactly what we all need – all day, every day.
