Top 5 Things You Didn't Know About BTS
This K-pop band has taken over the music scene and you'll definitely be hearing their name if you haven't already! In this video we take a look at the Top 5 Things you didn't know about BTS! Remember the names of the seven members: Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Rap Monster, Jimin, V and Jungkook because they're taking over the music charts! Did you know that they've already made k-pop history? That they produce socially conscious k-pop and that they are a worldwide phenomenon?
#5: They Are Multitalented
More than just a group of well-assembled pretty faces, the BTS boys are stacked from top to bottom with a variety of unique skillsets. For example, prior to their debut in 2013 Rap Monster and Suga were busy performing as underground rappers while Jin and Jimin were in school studying film and modern dance respectively. Additionally, J-Hope was a member of the street dance team “NEURON”, and would participate regularly in competitions. With skills like these it’s no wonder Big Hit Entertainment recruited them! The South Korean entertainment company clearly knew what they were doing.
#4: BTS Was the First K-pop Act to Get Its Own Twitter Emoji
Due to their massive social media following and the fact that they won the “Golden Tweet” award, a yearly award presented to the person or persons with the most retweeted post of the year in South Korea, a emoji was created for BTS. The emoji featured an image of a black bulletproof vest with their name written across the chest. Now that’s cool! Hey, remember when we said their social media following was massive? We weren’t joking. They have over 7 million twitter followers, more than 4.5 million Instagram followers and close to 5 million Facebook followers! Those are some seriously impressive numbers.
#3: They’ve Made K-pop History
When BTS released their sophomore album “Wings” in 2016 they had no idea they were about to make K-pop history. The album debuted at number 26 on the Billboard 200 charts, making it the highest charting K-pop album of all-time. The album also set the record for best selling k-pop album of all time. However, the most surprising aspect of BTS’ rapid rise to the top of the k-pop world is that unlike many of their contemporaries, they weren’t backed by a top agency like SM Entertainment, but were instead produced by Big Hit Entertainment, a comparatively small Korean agency.
#2: They Produce Socially Conscious K-pop
Let’s face it, boy bands aren’t exactly known for their progressive or even insightful lyrics. However, BTS is far from your average boy band. With the majority of the K-pop world focused on producing catchy singles, BTS has decided to try something different. The BTS members play an active role in producing and writing their songs, and haven’t shied away from hard-hitting topics such as suicide, women’s rights and mental health. Their songs may be catchy, we’ll give you that, but at least they aren’t afraid to take the occasional lyrical risk; and to be honest, it seems to be working just fine.
#1: They Are a Worldwide Phenomenon
To say BTS’ popularity is on the rise would be a gross understatement. Having already conquered the K-pop world in their native South Korea with the incredible success of their second album “Wings”, the group has slowly begun to take over the music charts of other countries from across the globe. “Wings” debuted at number 62 on the U.K. Album Chart and the group has started to sell out stadiums in the United States. In fact, tickets for their 2017 BTS Live Trilogy Episode III: The Wings Tour sold out in record time, promoting additional dates to be added in two of the three cities they were planning on visiting.
