Welcome to WatchMojo, and today were counting down our picks for the most talented ladies who run K-Pop. Were looking at both soloists and girl groups so that no queens are left behind.

#20: (G)I-dle

Unapologetically fierce, this girl group isnt afraid to push the boundaries of K-Pop. With their feminist lyrics and innovative concepts, (G)I-dle has established a reputation for making music that matters. From the empowering anthem Super Lady to the satirical jab at patriarchy in Wife, this groups discography is filled with gems. A lot of this freedom of expression comes from the fact that leader Soyeon produces most of the teams work herself. This allows for experimentation, personal conviction, and diverse perspectives to seep into the music. Needless to say, the K-Pop industry needs (G)I-dle.

#19: Aespa

Its not easy to nail a futuristic concept in art. Too often, it can come across as either far-fetched or not ambitious enough. However, Aespa manages to strike the perfect balance. Since its inception, the group has incorporated the rather modern idea of a metaverse into its music. The members have avatars in a virtual reality, and this aspect isnt abandoned as a one-time gimmick or buzzword. Rather, theres lore to the group that unfolds through music videos and other related content. However, it doesnt just stop there. Aespas musicality echoes their avant-garde worldview through genres like hyperpop and electroclash. Clearly, theyre generation-defining for a reason.

#18: Chung Ha

Some celebrities radiate star power just by existing. Thats Chung Ha for you. From the moment she appeared on our screens as a contestant on the competition show Produce 101, she stole our hearts. Spoiler alert! She was one of the winners and eventually became a member of the project girl group I.O.I. While her career as an idol was undoubtedly prolific, it is her work as a soloist that has captivated fans worldwide. With her smoldering charisma and show-stopping stage presence, Chung Ha has a chokehold on fans. Her brand of pop is alluring, and her choreography never fails to impress. Now, thats a complete package.

#17: Bibi

If youre a K-Pop fan, youve probably heard about the issue of oversaturation in the industry. Bibi entered the scene during a time when a breath of fresh air was desperately needed, and she delivered. The Lowlife Princess singer unleashed a refreshing wave of audacious music that dared to step outside the conventions of K-Pop. Her husky voice and bold lyrics, hip-hop, and R&B influences present the image of a strong and defiant woman who doesnt care about looking perfect, although she is drop-dead gorgeous. She calls herself the b-word as a way of reclaiming it and turns around to give us the fairytale-esque Bam Yang Gang, proving her versatility. We cant wait to see what she has in store for us next.

#16: Wonder Girls

No conversation about trailblazers in K-Pop would be complete without this legendary group. Before K-Pop was an unwavering presence on international charts, Wonder Girls became the first-ever South Korean artist to debut on the Billboard Hot 100. Walking an untrodden path, they made significant efforts for K-Pop to break into the US market and even toured with the Jonas Brothers. So, they were not only ahead of their time but also broke new ground for future artists. Musically, Wonder Girls is known for their retro style, which is why their songs continue to resonate with younger fans looking to tap into the nostalgia of a time they never experienced. Add to that their catchy choreographies, and you have the recipe for lasting success.

#15: Hwasa

No one does sexy like this icon. Hwasa, the epitome of confidence and self-love, makes body positivity addictively fun. Although she once struggled with it herself, her hit song I Love My Body proves that shes healing with her fans. Hwasa is also rather fond of expressing her vulnerabilities through her art. For instance, María delves into the toll fame has taken on her mental health. Similarly, "I'm a B" signifies how life in the fast lane caused her to miss out on whats really important: her loved ones. However, shes far from being preachy or over-serious all the time. Tracks like Chili are definitely for the club. This duality isnt surprising, given that her group, Mamamoo, is also known and beloved for being multifaceted.

#14: Red Velvet

The RV girls are the definition of elegance with edge. On the one hand, you get peppy dance-pop and bright concepts, representing the Red in their name. In stark contrast, their music videos are peppered with hidden messages and dark, mysterious undertones, justifying the mature Velvet aspect. The members boast elite vocal, dance, and rap abilities, which naturally elevate their music to a level above the rest. Each of them also has unique artistic sensibilities, which are beautifully highlighted through the groups music as well as their solo endeavors. The cherry on the red velvet cake is the teams visual direction, which integrates myriad concepts while staying true to their core identity. Fun fact: Theyve even performed in North Korea!

#13: Suzy

Bae Su-Ji, better known as Suzy, rose to fame in girl group Miss A, alongside fellow band members Fei, Jia and Min. Miss A officially disbanded in 2017, but Suzy has become a solo artist in her own right -- with the successful release of her first solo album, which includes the smash Yes No Maybe. She's also proved herself as an in-demand award show hostess, brand ambassador and successful movie and TV actress, to boot. Thats less being a triple threat, and more of a quintuple threat, or more! Seeing as how she's so busy, it's a surprise she even has time to sing.

#12: Sunmi

Choosing to take a hiatus from a successful position in the entertainment industry is risky business. Which is why Sunmi is such a fascinating case. Originally a member of Wonder Girls, Sunmi left the group in 2010 to pursue an academic career. (Now thats not something you hear every day). Sunmi returned in 2013, rebranded as a solo artist. She released her single "24 Hours" to critical acclaim. Since then, Sunmi has gone from strength-to-strength, even popping up another time in Wonder Girls, and again as a solo artist with her song "Gashina".

#11: Ailee

Ailee -- whose real name is Amy Lee -- moved from Colorado to Korea in 2010. In 2011, her incredible televised version of Beyonce's "Halo" skyrocketed her to fame. The performance went viral, earning Ailee the perfect, if fairly obvious, nickname for an artist with such a powerful, versatile voice and presence: "The Korean Beyonce". Since then Ailee has guest starred on the South Korean TV show "Dream High 2" and performed on just about all of South Korea's singing shows, even performing the closing song of the 2018 Paralympics.

#10: Taeyeon

Kim Tae-yeon, better known as "Taeyeon" debuted as a member of Girls' Generation in 2007. She eventually decided, like so many artists before her, to try out a solo career; in 2015 she emerged with her first offering, "I", which reached number two on South Korea's Gaon Album Chart. Its title track sold over a million digital copies! Her second EP, "Why", bettered that by rocketing all the way to number one. Taeyeon has since gone on to win a boatload of awards, including four Golden Disc Awards, two Mnet Asian Music Awards, two Seoul Music Awards . . .we could go on, but you get the point.

#9: Park Bom

Theres a reason why this name will always be etched in K-Pop fans minds. Park Bom is sunshine personified and has spent her career spreading happiness and positivity without shying away from candor. As a part of the legendary 2NE1, she contributed significantly to the Korean Wave, but after the group disbanded, she started focusing on her own music. Endearing tracks like Spring resonated with fans, landing her on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart. She continued promoting solo and even competed on Mnets Queendom, impressing fans. Then, 2NE1 got back together for their Welcome Back Tour and everyone cheered. Despite her health struggles, Park Bom remains a bright presence in the music world, with millions of fans to love and support her.

#8: TWICE

This group is the beating heart of the bubblegum pop world. TWICE has cemented a permanent place for itself in the golden pages of K-Pops history for several reasons. First of all, the members are immensely beloved, as both idols and role models. The sheer talent in each of them leaves no room for disappointment. Secondly, the group outdoes their own achievements with every new release. Finally, the powerhouse collective keeps it real. The girls are not afraid to connect with their fans sincerely, baring their real selves. So, you relate to them when theyre candid about their struggles and are inspired by them when they overcome their difficulties. All this to say, a dose of TWICE a day keeps the blues away!

#7: CL

Give it up for the Baddest Female, everyone! CL, the leader of 2NE1, is the undisputed queen of rap in the K-Pop industry. Her unique flow and lyricism have always set her apart from the rest, and her stage presence is downright regal. So, her international success didnt come as a surprise when the world found out about the fire she spits. Just when fans thought she couldnt get any more powerful, she dropped her solo album Alpha, showing everyone whos boss. This record is a proud display of her range as a rapper and singer-songwriter, ushering a new chapter of CL. As a bonus, 2NE1 is back, too! What a time to be a Blackjack, right?

#6: Blackpink

All hail the reigning queens of K-Pop! Blackpink has left no stone unturned when it comes to dominating the music industry. When they release new music, BPs name is plastered on charts. In between albums, the members are making waves in the fashion industry as brand ambassadors for the biggest luxury houses. More recently, theyve been focusing on their solo music, too. Rosés collaboration with Bruno Mars has the world singing Apt. Jennies boss babe persona takes center stage in her album Ruby. Jisoo is effortlessly chic, as always, in Amortage. Similarly, Lisa has us wrapped around her finger with Alter Ego. Take your pick, theyre all dynamos.

#5: Younha

An incredibly successful and meaningful career spanning over two decades is something artists dream of. Younha has achieved it. The songstress behind iconic anime OSTs like Hkiboshi from Bleach and Kioku from Rideback, is blessed with an ethereal voice. Its as powerful in a rock track as it is in a ballad, but it can also deliver a killer EDM bop. That said, it is her songwriting that deserves the highest praise. Younhas flair for poetry shines through in her lyrics, which can transport you to another world. This quality was particularly evident in her album, End Theory. So, if you ever need a warm hug in the form of a song, tune in to Younha.

#4: Lee Hyori

The OG diva of K-Pop continues to exercise as much influence on the industry today as she did in the aughts. Lee Hyori, who started as a member of Fin.K.L, forged a formidable solo career thats lauded to this day. She further became an entertainment fixture through variety shows like Family Outing and Hyori's Homestay, while also dedicating her time to animal welfare. Her music career got a second wind through project groups like SSAK3 with Yoo Jae-suk and Rain and Refund Sisters, alongside Uhm Jung-hwa, Hwasa, and Jessi. She was also the inspiration behind the viral 2000s makeup trend that was set to the tune of her track 10 Minutes. In conclusion, Hyoris an it girl, always and forever.

#3: Girls' Generation

The Nations Girl Group, also called SNSD, was a trailblazing force in the early stages of K-Pops global expansion. They set the standard so high with their unprecedented achievements that the industry had no option but to shape up. Each member is a revelation, oozing great talent and skill, but Girls Generation is greater than the sum of its parts. They offer an experience unlike anything you have seen before, and have grown by leaps and bounds for this. Today, they are legends, but the members continue to reinvent themselves in their individual careers. Occasionally, they also unite for special projects like the Forever 1 album, released in celebration of their fifteenth debut anniversary. It goes without saying, we can never have enough Girls Generation.

#2: IU

Calling this songbird an angel would be an understatement. South Koreas pride and joy, IU is as well-known for her award-winning music and phenomenal acting as she is for her philanthropy. She took to art at a very young age, but getting a foot in the door was difficult, as she dealt with frauds. Once she spread her wings, she soared beyond the skies. IUs music is characterized by deeply personal storytelling, often inspired by her own life. Theyre warm, uplifting, and comforting, speaking to the soul and the human condition. On top of her strong discography, she is also acclaimed for her concerts, which she puts her whole heart into. Such talent is not only rare but deserves to be protected forever.

#1: BoA

BoA, birth name Kwon Bo-ah, caught the eyes and ears of music scouts when she was just 11 years old, after accompanying her brother to an audition. She went on to release her first album, "ID: Peace B", at the ripe old age of 13. Her first Japanese album, "Listen To My Heart", made BoA the first Korean to debut at the top of the Oricon chart. Woo hoo! She released an English language album, "BoA", in 2009, and was cast in a big role in the 2013 flick "Make Your Move". BoA is a big-time K-Pop success story, and is massive both in Korea and around the globe.
