Top 5 Things You Didn't Know About Selena Gomez

Top 5 Things You Didn't Know About Selena Gomez
VOICE OVER: Lisa Yang
Script written by Spencer Sher

Selena Gomez is one of the biggest pop superstars, but there are even some things we bet you didn't even know about her! Gomez examined Spears' career decisions and even claimed that her first solo tour featured a number of elements directly inspired by the pop singer. She filmed 2 TV pilots that failed. She filmed pilots for two different Disney Channel shows only to have neither of them picked up. One was a spinoff of “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” while the other was a “Lizzie McGuire” spinoff. Neither hit the mark so both were promptly prevented from further production.

Top 10 Things You Didn't Know About Demi Lovato

Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato have been friends for quite some time. Ever since they appeared together on “Barney & Friends,” they became practically inseparable for years. Thus, it should come as no surprise that just as they were starting to make a name for themselves in the entertainment business, they decided to start their own YouTube series together. “The Demi and Selena Show” served as a way for the two promising starlets to connect with their fans. The videos are pretty rough, mostly revolving around discussions of clothes and how they’re best friends, but it’s cool to look back on them all these years later!

UNICEF, or United Nations Children’s Fund, is a program devoted to helping women and children in developing countries in need of food, shelter, and care. To help raise awareness across the globe, UNICEF appoints Goodwill ambassadors to help spread the word. These people are usually leaders in the entertainment industry. In 2009, at just 17-years-old, Selena Gomez joined their ranks – and in doing so became the youngest ambassador ever. She has served as a spokesperson for their Trick-or-Treat campaign and even travelled to Ghana to bear witness to the harsh realities that some of the world’s children must live in. Gomez continues to be a spokesperson for the charitable organization.

#3: Britney Spears Inspired Her

Nearing the end of her time as a Disney Channel actress, Gomez began to wonder which direction she wanted her career to go in. She decided to turn to someone who had been in exactly the same position only a few years earlier: Britney Spears. As a former Mickey Mouse Club member, Spears too felt the pressure of figuring out the best way to transition from teen singer to full blown sex symbol. Gomez examined Spears’ career decisions and even claimed that her first solo tour featured a number of elements directly inspired by the pop singer. Perhaps this had something to do with nostalgia, as Britney Spears was the first concert Gomez ever attended!

Trying to make it as an actress can be hard work. You must compete against thousands of others on a daily basis. For Selena Gomez, landing a fulltime gig almost never happened. She filmed pilots for two different Disney Channel shows only to have neither of them picked up. One was a spinoff of “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” while the other was a “Lizzie McGuire” spinoff. Neither hit the mark so both were promptly prevented from further production. Thankfully for Gomez, she landed the lead role of Alex Russo on the series, “Wizards of Waverly Place.” Four seasons later, we think her patience paid off.
