The City of Angels

Located in the southwestern region of the United States, Los Angeles is found in Southern California. It has a population of over three and a half million people and covers an area of almost four hundred and seventy square miles of land.

Climate

Los Angeles boasts a subtropical-Mediterranean climate with an abundant amount of sunshine year-round. Summer months are hot and dry, while spring and fall are both wet and cool.

Geography

Geographically, L.A. is made up of both flatlands and hills. The city is also well-known for its susceptibility to earthquakes. Its metropolitan area also includes the lush San Fernando Valley, which is surrounded by mountains.

Transportation

L.A. can be reached by air via the Los Angeles International Airport. Within the city, there is a public transportation structure that includes a subway and light rail system.

Landmarks

As one of the most important cities in California, and in fact the entire country, Los Angeles is home to a number of significant buildings and landmarks. Most government activity takes place downtown at the City Hall. Other notable buildings include the Los Angeles Convention Center and the Staples Center, both of which host various events. Meanwhile, Dodger Stadium is home to the city’s Major League Baseball team.

Arts and Culture

For some arts and culture, there’s the Museum of Contemporary Art in the California Plaza and The Getty Center’s J. Paul Getty Museum in Brentwood. Science-oriented exhibits can be found at the Griffith Observatory.

Music

Los Angeles is also home to the Hollywood Bowl and the Los Angeles Music Center, which includes the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and these locations are great for the musically-minded.

Family-Friendly Activities

Family-friendly activities include Universal Studios Hollywood and its tours of movie sets, amusement park rides and live productions. The city also has its own zoo.

Beaches

If you feel like relaxing in the sand or cooling off in the water, head to Venice Beach or the cities of Santa Monica and Malibu.

Shopping

For your shopping needs, be sure to check out Beverly Hills and Melrose. You can do some outdoor shopping at The Grove, and then get some food at the close by Farmers Market. L.A. also offers a number of fine restaurant choices with a variety of cuisines, from typical Californian fare to European, Asian and more!

Hollywood

A trip to Los Angeles isn’t complete without visiting Hollywood. Don’t miss the famous Hollywood sign or the historical and cultural landmarks found on Hollywood Boulevard! These include The Dolby Theatre, formerly known as the Kodak Theatre, Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
