This is where you know the cast of Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist from. For this list, we'll be looking at the cast of this new musical show and their prior work. Our countdown includes Lauren Graham, Skylar Astin, Mary Steenburgen, and more!
Don’t we recognize you from somewhere? Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’ll be exploring Where You Know the Cast of Zoeys Extraordinary Playlist From.
For this list, we’ll be looking at the cast of this new musical show and their prior work.
#7: Mary Steenburgen
In “Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist”, Mary Steenburgen plays Zoey’s mother and the primary caregiver for Zoey’s father, who suffers from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. She’s no stranger to playing maternal roles; she played Will Ferrell’s mom in “Step Brothers” and Ryan Reynolds’ mom in “The Proposal”. She even played Will Ferrell’s step mother in the holiday film “Elf”! In the classic 1989 film “Parenthood”, Steenburgen plays Steve Martin’s wife and a mother of three (soon-to-be-four)! It seems like there’s just something about her kind face that makes casting directors sure she’ll be the perfect mother.
#6: Peter Gallagher
In this new show, actor Peter Gallagher plays Zoey’s father, who is living with an uncommon neurological disorder that leaves him unable to communicate through traditional means. But fans of teen dramas will certainly remember him from his turn as Sandy Cohen on “The O.C.” where he played Seth’s father and Ryan’s adoptive father figure. Before that though, he was an ‘80s heartthrob, appearing in films like “Summer Lovers” and “Sex, Lies, and Videotape”. This role definitely seems like a departure for him, and it’s interesting to see him act outside his type.
#5: Lauren Graham
Where she leads, we will follow! Of course, almost everyone knows Lauren Graham from her most prominent role as Lorelai Gilmore on the heartwarming teen dramedy “Gilmore Girls”. It’s a role she reprised in the revival series on Netflix “ Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life”. She also notably played Sarah Braverman on the TV series “Parenthood”, which ran for six seasons on NBC. In “Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist” she plays Zoey’s boss at the tech firm she works for, SPRQPoint. Somehow, based on her former roles, we can’t quite imagine her being the techy type!
#4: John Clarence Stewart
So far we’ve been dealing with some pretty high profile actors, but this multi talented performer is an up and coming force to be reckoned with. On “Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist”, John Clarence Stewart plays Simon, one of Zoey’s coworkers at SPRQ Point that she has a major crush on, despite the fact that he’s engaged. Before working on this show, he worked on the Netflix production “What/If” which stars Renée Zellweger. Before that, he had a role as Alex Wesley on the Netflix adaptation “Luke Cage”. We’re excited to see what he’ll do next!
#3: Alex Newell
One of the most compelling characters on the show has to be Mo, Zoey’s neighbor who is genderfluid and who offers to help her get a grasp on her newfound powers. Mo is played by Alex Newell, who most of you probably know from his multi-season run on another musical TV show - “Glee”. Newell played Wade “Unique” Adams, a trans woman who needs to build up confidence in order to be a member of the Glee Club. Newell has also done Broadway, acting as Asaka in the show “Once on This Island”.
#2: Skylar Astin
Here’s another actor who is definitely no stranger to musicals. Fans of the “Pitch Perfect” franchise will of course recognise him for playing love interest Jesse Swanson in both the first and second movie, where he showed off his singing chops many times. He also has experience in TV, having played a notable role in the final season of “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”. Fans of musicals might also have seen him on stage, in iterations of “Rent”, “West Side Story”, “Into the Woods”, and as part of the original cast of “Spring Awakening”.
#1: Jane Levy
The main role of Zoey Clarke belongs to Jane Levy, and we have a feeling this might just be a breakout performance for her. The character of Zoey is unlike any we’ve seen on TV before: a young female coder who finds herself with some unconventional musical powers. In the past, Levy has done a lot of work in the horror genre, partnering with director Fede Álvarez more than once, on films “Don’t Breathe” and “Evil Dead”. She also worked on the thriller series “What/If” with John Clarence Stewart. Her most prominent role however was playing the witty and sarcastic teen Tessa Altman on the sitcom “Suburgatory”.
For this list, we’ll be looking at the cast of this new musical show and their prior work.
