Aronofsky Who?
Whether you like it or not, the man behind some of the most intense films of the 21st century is back. Darren Aronofsky, director of the emotionally taxing “Requiem for a Dream” and the haunting “Black Swan” has been making headlines over the past few weeks surrounding his upcoming film “Mother!” which features Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem, set to be released September 15th. The new psychological thriller serves as the director’s seventh feature length film, and knowing his previous work, it’s not surprising that this one doesn’t come without its fair share of pre-release hype.
The film has already screened at the Venice International Film Festival where it shocked audiences, and has since been called “the most ambitious film to come out of a major studio since Kubrick died”. But just what is so shocking about it?
Well, it looks like we’re going to have to wait until September 15th to find out. What is known so far is that lead characters Mother and Him are visited by a mysterious couple played by Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer which can be seen in an equally puzzling trailer that you can watch below.
Work is Hell
Supposedly taking cues from Polanski’s “Rosemary’s Baby”, Aronofsky isn’t just going to be a tough journey for audiences. The director has stated in interviews that the production was a nightmare for all involved, stating that Jennifer Lawrence was pushed so far she began hyperventilating in a crucial scene.
If all of this advanced buzz tells us one thing, it’s that Aronofsky’s new flick will be a game changer. Only time will tell whether it will be a contender at this year’s Academy Awards, but judging by the little we know, as well as the cast and crew’s track record, this will be one to check out this fall.
