capcom re-release Okami HD Okami HD remastered

Okami is Coming to Modern Consoles

The Sun God Rides Again

Back in the yesteryear of 2006, Capcom found itself with an unexpected gem on its hands. That gem was Okami, a beautiful action-adventure game that saw players journey through a breathtaking, cel-shaded version of ancient Japan as Amaterasu; a deity in the form of a wolf who fights evil beings via magical paintbrush techniques.

Because why not?

Alas, it sorely underperformed despite all the critical praise, becoming something of a modern classic still revered by gamers to this very day. If you happen to be one of them, then prepare for a nostalgia overload because Ammy is coming back.

That’s right, Okami is set to be re-released for modern consoles this December.

According to an article on Gamesradar

Okami is a game about a sun goddess in the body of a wolf who uses a magical paintbrush to alter the world and defeat evil. It was originally released in the long, long ago of 2006 for the PS2, developed by the now-defunct Clover Studio. Despite being a critical darling and receiving multiple ports over the years, the game has never been a huge commercial hit. But that could all change this December, when Okami HD comes to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Tired of games with short adventures that peter out before you do? Okami looks like a fairly straightforward action game, but it’s more of a Zelda-style RPG. There are tons of sidequests and collectibles to find. The site How Long to Beat puts the main story at just shy of 37 hours (with 136 players weighing in), and the completionist run at just over 57 hours (with 73 players polled). According to the site, a “leisure”-paced completionist run will eat up nearly 80 hours of your life.

The PS3 HD re-release also supported widescreen, but Okami HD for PS4, Xbox One, and PC adds in the extra-nifty feature of 4K resolution support. If you couldn’t tell from the trailer alone, this is a game hailed for its visuals, so popping it up onto a 4K television should only make it prettier.

Whether you are eager to revisit the beauty of Okami’s world or just want to see what all the fuss is about, there’s never been a better time to let the white wolf into your lives!
