Shay Is Back: Assassin’s Creed Rogue Set To Be Remastered

Question The Creed In HD

It’s fair to say that when it comes to the lethal protagonists of the Assassin’s Creed series, the most popular are none other than Ezio Auditore da Firenze and Edward Kenway. It’s not hard to see why, since Ezio is the epitome of Italian swagger while Edward might just be the coolest interpretation of a swashbuckler we’ve seen. Throw in both Assassin’s Creed II’s awesome narrative and Black Flag’s addictive gameplay, and its no wonder these two soared above the rest.

That’s not to say the other assassins should be brushed aside, especially since one of them is about to have his story retold in glorious high definition.

According to an article on Gamesradar, Assassin’s Creed Rogue will be joining its brothers in making the jump to modern consoles, along with its brutal tale of Templar Shay Cormac.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue is officially the most unfairly overlooked game of the entire free-running franchise. Released as a last-gen exclusive in 2014 at the same time as Assassin’s Creed Unity, it was sadly lost to the dark annals of PS3 and Xbox 360. It’s excellent news then that an ultra-polished remastered version is coming out for PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One and Xbox One X on March 20 so that finally everyone can agree with me about how it’s basically just a chilly version of Black Flag, and thus a lot of fun.

While it’ll run in HD on PS4 and Xbox One, Rogue Remastered will run in glorious 4K on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, making it even more beautiful as the Creed turns the stabby tables and lets you play as Assassin turned Templar Shay Cormac. The freezing North Atlantic is a fascinating world to explore and is frankly dangerously expansive, you can just get the half-length campaign out of the way and then hunt all day, or happily play at Black Flag-style pirates and just spend hours firing cannons at enemy ships.

There’s also an enjoyable ‘don’t die’ addition in the shape of Assassins coming to hunt you down. You are a Templar after all. Gradually louder whispers, will let you know when someone is hiding and it’s ridiculously satisfying to spot the hooded figure crouching in a bush before taking them down with an air assassination.

Perhaps with a second release, Rogue can finally get the attention that it deserves. Either that, or it will all amount to nothing more than a hollow echo now that Assassin’s Creed Origins has stolen the spotlight.
