Prepare For More Screams: Black Clover Video Game Set For Release In 2018

ARRRRRRRRRGH!

Black Clover has…well…to put it lightly not been as well received as some were expecting, mainly due to the fact it seems determined to rehash and repeat every kind of shounen trope known to man. This even includes filler, which is kind of impressive since it only has a handful of episodes under its belt at the moment.

However, that hasn’t stopped the likes of Asta busting out his own video game, set to hit the west some time next year.

According to an article on Anime News Network –

Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe announced on Tuesday that it will release the previously revealedBlack Clover game on PlayStation 4 and PC (via digital download) next year. A PC release has not been announced for Japan.

Tabata launched the manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2015, and the manga has 4.8 million copies in print. Viz Media is publishing the series digitally and in print in North America. Viz describes the story:

Asta is a young boy who dreams of becoming the greatest mage in the kingdom. Only one problem–he can’t use any magic! Luckily for Asta, he receives the incredibly rare five-leaf clover grimoire that gives him the power of anti-magic. Can someone who can’t use magic really become the Wizard King? One thing’s for sure–Asta will never give up!

There is every chance that the series will go onto evolve into something decent and maybe even great if it starts trimming the fat and finding its own feet as a fantasy-action anime, but it seems we’re a little ways off from that. Here’s hoping that the video game doesn’t suffer the same flaws and ends up being just a generic adaptation with no innovation behind it.
