John Cena Set To Star As Duke Nukem In Live-Action Adaptation

And His Name Is…Wait, What?

John Cena is many things. He’s WWE superstar, an actor, a walking meme, and from the looks of things an all around nice guy. We’re not calling him the next Dwayne Johnson or anything, but he’s certainly appeared in more movies than we expected him to over the last couple of years. Of course, it’s not like his casting has had people’s heads spinning.

At least until it was announced that he might be taking on the role of a video game icon!

According to an article on Gamespot –

The wrestler and movie star John Cena is in talks to play Duke Nukem in an upcoming movie based on the brash video game character. This is according to The Hollywood Reporter, which has word that the film is coming from Paramount and Michael Bay’s production studio Platinum Dunes.

The report states that the Duke Nukem film is in the early stages of production. No director or other cast members have been announced, while a search is reportedly currently underway to find a writer.

Cena and Paramount already worked together on the movie Daddy’s Home 2. He’s also set to show up in the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee. Cena’s other movie credits include an appearance in Trainwreck, while more recently he was the voice of Ferdinand in the animated movie of the same name.

We’re not ruling out the possibility that an adaptation of Duke’s exploits could at least be entertaining. After all, Cena has that likeability about him that might allow him to pull off the King’s retro charm, just as long as the jokes and action hit their mark. That being said, there is also every chance that this could end up us a mesh between the live-action version of Doom and Duke Nukem Forever.

Honestly, between Tomb Raider, Rampage and this, at least one of them has to be good. Right?

Be sure to check out out the video below to see who we believe would win in a fight between the Doom Guy and Duke Nukem. Who truly is the ultimate badass?
