The name is Boyle, Danny Boyle.
In recent weeks, it’s been reported that the English filmmaker has been in talks to direct James Bond 25. Boyle has now confirmed that he is indeed helming the project, which should start shooting towards the end of the year. He made the announcement at New Yorkâs Florence Gould Hall Theater where his new FX anthology series Trust was being screened.
âWe are working on a script right now,” Boyle told Metro. “And it all depends on that really. I am working on a Richard Curtis script at the moment. We hope to start shooting that in 6 or 7 weeks. Then Bond would be right at the end of the year. But we are working on them both right now.â
Boyle additionally commented on the screenplay he’s developing with John Hodge, but understandably kept things spoiler free.
âWeâve got an idea, John Hodge, the screenwriter, and I have got this idea, and John is writing it at the moment. And it all depends on how it turns out. It would be foolish of me to give any of it away.â
Hodge has collaborated with Boyle several projects in the past, most notably Trainspotting and its 2017 followup. Boyle previously directed Steve Jobs, 127 Hours, and Slumdog Millionaire, the latter of which earned him an Academy Award. He’s not the first Best Director winner to helm a Bond picture, as Sam Mendes brought us Skyfall and Spectre.
Speaking of Spectre, it looked like the 2015 sequel would be Daniel Craig’s last outing as 007. This amounted to much speculation over who the new James Bond would be, although Craig’s return was eventually confirmed in 2017. Bond 25 is currently set to come out on November 8, 2019.
