#3: Ben IS Bailing on Directing Batman

Fans were outraged when Ben Affleck was rumored to be abandoning the director’s chair for the standalone Batman flick. But as mentioned in the second episode of The CineFiles, those rumors turned out to be true. Ben is no longer directing. While Affleck may not be running the show anymore, he is still on board to play the caped crusader. So, at least not all hope is lost for the project. “Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give,” Affleck said in an official statement. “It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require.” DC now has the task of searching for a director who can reach that level, with names like George Miller and Denis Villeneuve being thrown into the conversation.

#2: Denis Villeneuve Directing Dune Remake

Man, this guy is in demand! Sicario and Arrival director, Denis Villeneuve has landed yet another sci-fi gig. This time, to helm the adaptation of the iconic Frank Herbert novel, Dune. Villeneuve’s name had been floating around ever since Legendary Pictures picked up the film rights in December. Currently, the filmmaker is working with fellow Canadian Ryan Gosling on Blade Runner 2049. Villeneuve has had a string of successful movies of late, but his hands will be full with Dune, as its track record for adaptations have been poor. In 1973, Chilean director Alejandro Jodorowsky’s attempt never made it past pre-production, and David Lynch’s 1984 film was a critical failure, leading the iconic filmmaker to disown the project. If Villeneuve’s Oscar nom this year is any indication of future success, then the remake may be in good hands.

#1: Emma Stone and Jonah Hill on Netflix

What would you say if I told you Emma Stone and Jonah Hill were reuniting on screen? Well, they are! Only this time, the Oscar nominated actors will be doing so on the small screen, starring in Netflix’s Maniac. True Detective season one director, Cary Fukunaga is slated to direct all 10 episodes of the dark-comedy series, which is set to begin filming August 15. This will be the first project Fukunaga has worked on since his Golden Globe nominated film Beasts of No Nation starring Idris Elba, and the first time Stone and Hill have worked together since their breakout roles in Superbad. The Netflix production is based on the Norwegian television show of the same name, which follows a man in a psychiatric hospital, who falls into intense dream fantasies. Sounds super good.
