This ex-Fifth Harmony member is going solo and ready to take on the music industry. Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the Top 5 Things You Didn’t Know About Camila Cabello.

For this list, we’re focusing on the most unique bits of information that we could find about Camila Cabello.

#5: Instead of Having a Quinceañera, She Auditioned for “The X Factor”

For many Latin American teenagers, their 15th birthday celebration, or “Quinceañera,” is a huge deal. But Camila had other plans in 2012, as she thought less about the present and more about her future. Rather than scheduling a party in Miami, where she lived at the time, she traveled with her parents to Greensboro, North Carolina for “The X Factor,” unsure if she’d even be able to audition. Despite a rough start, Camila’s perseverance impressed the producers, especially Simon Cowell, leading to a life-changing moment. And so, not only did Camila make it through, but her composure ultimately led to another big break, as Simon hand-picked her for a brand new group that would become Fifth Harmony.

#4: She Didn’t Really Dance Before Fifth Harmony

Camila has plenty of charisma and personality, so it may seem like she’s a natural performer. Yet, it’s been reported that she didn’t actually dance a whole lot before appearing on “The X-Factor,” which proves just how far she’s come since her big break. As a member of Fifth Harmony, Camila received extensive training, of course, yet she’s got a natural sense of rhythm that beautifully complements her stage presence. So, while she might not have been trained before “The X Factor,” her raw talent made the pop star transition much easier, not to mention her strong work ethic, too.

#3: She Plays Guitar & Writes a Lot of Her Own Music

More than just a pretty face, Camila is well-versed in the creative process. During her time with Fifth Harmony, she actually co-wrote the duet “I Know What You Did Last Summer” with Shawn Mendes, and she teamed up with both Sia and Benny Blanco for her breakout solo single, “Crying in the Club.” For a young woman like Camila, such versatility not only makes her a more relatable artist, but one that’s built for a lasting career in the industry. In 2017, One Republic’s Ryan Tedder even admitted that he’s “intimidated” by Camila’s talent, which is quite the compliment from someone that has written hits for artists like Kelly Clarkson, Adele and Beyoncé, to name a few.

#2: A Transgender Fan Named Herself after Camila

In 2017, Camila embarked on a new solo career, further establishing her place in pop culture. Early on, though, she was already changing lives, evidenced by a story she posted on her personal Instagram account in 2015. The year before, she met a young fan named Joe, who made a significant life transition, inspired by one special Fifth Harmony member. The fan later emerged as “Camila Joe,” which prompted Camila Cabello to celebrate the occasion, along with the concept of individual freedom. So, when these two stars realigned with each other, both Camilas were workin’ that pose.

#1: Before “The X Factor,” She Was a Huge Introvert

As a child, Camila struggled with social anxiety. In fact, she was so nervous before her “X-Factor” audition that even her parents stressed out, too, mostly because they were concerned. Despite her introvert personality, though, Camila tackled her fears head-on, demonstrating how inner strength and creative passion can override negative feelings. Through music and songwriting, she continues to address her inner conflict, which makes her a transparent artist that fans can look up to. Camila Cabello wants to be a role model, and she understands how music can be therapeutic during the most difficult of times.
