Top 5 Best Dressed Women at the 2018 Golden Globes

There’s a reason why we wear black. Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 5 Best Dressed Women at the 2018 Golden Globes.

For this list, we’re taking a look at the best ensembles from the 75th Golden Globe Awards, a ceremony that used fashion to make a statement more than ever in showing solidarity against sexual harassment.

#5: Mary J. Blige

Even though Blige didn’t win an award on January 7th, she positively shone. She was nominated for her work on the film “Mudbound,” both for Best Supporting Actress, and for Best Original Song, highlighting how much of a talented and versatile performer she is. Blige, along with most other female and male celebrities, wore black in support of 2018’s Time’s Up movement, an initiative against sexual harassment. She sported an asymmetrical look, wearing a dark velvet Albert Ferretti dress with only one diamond sleeve that seemed to drip all the way to the ground. To complete the ensemble, Blige wore her hair half-up-half-down, with dark eyeshadow, and silver and diamond accessories for just a touch more glam.

#4: Alison Brie

Nominated that evening for Best Actress in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy for her work in “GLOW,” Brie’s ebony ensemble followed a trend seen a few times that evening: the pant/dress combination. Brie was even quoted as saying of her pleasantly surprising look: “Tonight is about women wearing the pants, so I chose to literally wear the pants.” The strapless Vassilis Zoulias creation was simple yet elegant, accented with diamonds, black pumps, a red lip, and an Audrey Hepburn-like updo. The overall effect was positively effortless.

#3: Margot Robbie

If you got it, flaunt it. Robbie, who was nominated that evening for Best Actress in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy for her work as Tonya Harding in “I, Tonya,” went with a look that made statement after statement. Also, did we mention that she had the flu and still managed to look this flawless?! Keeping her hair and make-up classic with subtle waves and a hot pink lip, her charcoal-hued Gucci gown featured puff-sleeves, a plunging neckline, and finally a metallic floral detail on the sleeves and skirt.

#2: Nicole Kidman

When it comes to awards shows, Nicole Kidman is always on the best-dressed list. Her floor-length custom Givenchy Haute Couture dress featured dark lace at the top, trailing down Kidman’s back, and with just a hint of sparkle to it. With a loose updo to complement the gown’s high neck, Kidman looked every part a winner — even before she took home the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film for her performance in “Big Little Lies.” The only thing she needed to make this look any better was her incredible and supportive female cast by her side. The epitome of squad goals.

#1: Dakota Johnson

The second Gucci dress featured on this list, Dakota Johnson’s velour gown had a crystal belt synched around Johnson’s waist, with dangling diamond earrings and a bracelet to add more sheen. Now the front was stunning enough, but the details of the back were what really made this look jaw-dropping. A silver and diamond bow started at the top, and gradually trailed down, looking almost as though Johnson had decided to wear the night sky. With a messy ponytail and nude makeup, Johnson allowed the dress — and herself — to fully shine.
