VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton WRITTEN BY: Cassondra Feltus
We'd totally rock these Barbie outfits today. For this list, we'll be looking at the famous doll's most fabulous clothes that we wish lined our closets. Our countdown includes Suburban Shopper Barbie, Cool Shoppin' Barbie, Black Magic Barbie, and more!

#10: Suburban Shopper Barbie

Super cute sundresses aren’t exactly everyone’s go-to choice for running errands. But in the early days of Barbie, it was a perfect outfit for a busy day. Suburban Shopper is one of the first dresses for the iconic doll, and we can see why. The blue and white ensemble adorned with lace and flower details is simple yet whimsical. It also just looks airy and comfortable, ideal for a warm day. We desperately want this classic dress for ourselves. We clearly aren’t the only ones, because Unique Vintage’s Barbie-inspired collection included this very item in 2019. And get this…it had pockets!

#9: 2004 Presidential Candidate Barbie

Being the ever-evolving career woman that she is, Barbie has run for president a number of times since 1992. Of course, we’ve loved her attire throughout her various campaigns, from pencil skirts to ball gowns. But this fiery red pantsuit with black detailing from 2004 in particular is as powerful as it is chic. Adding the tie belt infuses the business-centric look with fun, while the scarf adds a little extra patriotic flair. It’s serving “deserves to be leader of the free world” and we’re here for it. The best part is, you don’t need to be running for president to rock an ensemble like this — it’s ideal for any professional venture. Needless to say though, Barbie’s got our vote!

Now here’s a Barbie who comes with her own clothing store. Her cute and casual denim-heavy ensemble screams “‘90s shopping mall.” We can see ourselves rocking this look hanging out with friends, or shopping at our favorite store. Plus, the additional clothes and accessories mean there are some cool mix and match combos just waiting to come together. You could totally swap out the denim vest and mini for the plaid skirt and collared tie-shirt, or pair the red tee with the plaid skirt. The possibilities are always endless with Barbie, especially when it comes to wardrobe.

#7: Great Shape Barbie

Whether you’re an ‘80s kid who had one of your own, or are someone who grew up with the “Toy Story” movies, we bet this outfit unlocks some memories. Dressed in a bright blue leotard and headband with multicolored leg warmers and a cute pink belt, Great Shape Barbie is truly unforgettable. This uber ‘80s getup may not be an everyday ‘fit, but we would definitely throw it on for an at-home workout. This might also be one of the most popular Barbie cosplay or Halloween costumes around. The “Toy Story 3” version of the doll seemingly has a little extra shine, for those who want to stand out even more in this eye-catching outfit.

“She’s Black! She’s Beautiful! She’s Dynamite!” That was the slogan for Mattel’s first Black Barbie introduced in 1980, and we couldn’t agree with the description more. At first glance, this groundbreaking doll is wearing a red shimmering gown with a daringly high slit. But she’s actually sporting a bodysuit with cutout sleeves and a long wrap skirt. Of course, she has the heels, earrings, and lips to match. And the gold statement necklace makes her look like a disco queen ready to hit the dance floor. In 2020, Mattel released a 40th Anniversary edition that paid homage to the original with a more modern dress accented by shiny gold accessories. We’d rock either of these looks any day.

#5: Totally Hair Barbie

Okay, this one might be a little out there but she is Mattel’s totally hot, totally cool best-seller. Of course, Totally Hair Barbie is all about the long locks, but we can’t help but love this wild party dress. The bold multicolored showstopper and hair accessories are very “Saved by the Bell” in the best way. And even though it’s available as a costume, we want the real thing, hot pink pumps and all. And we’re not the only ones. Kylie Jenner slipped on a similarly patterned dress referencing the doll’s 25th anniversary, proving that there should totally be a life-sized version.

#4: Black Magic Barbie

We know what you’re thinking. But no, this Barbie doesn’t have magical abilities. However, she does basically cast a spell on us in this super elegant all-black ensemble. A little black dress is always a must-have. But Black Magic Barbie spices up her strapless sheath dress with a matching sheer cape and black gloves. It’s a timeless look fit for many occasions – weddings, parties, the red carpet — you name it. And those in their villain era can benefit from it too. With the right accessories, this outfit could easily go from classy and chic to sexy goth glam.

#3: Generation Girl Barbie

If you were a Barbie fan in the late 1990s, you likely remember the Generation Girls. They weren’t just dolls — they had backstories, hobbies, and all attended International High School in NYC. Each Gen girl also had her own style and enviable duds. We’re going with Barbie’s sparkling blue mini dress, complete with gorgeous red and silver heels and the perfect denim jacket. Like all the best dolls, she also came with a versatile wardrobe. The additional light blue skirt could tie around the mini dress, or become a completely ball gown-esque outfit when paired with the separate red and white top. These looks might’ve been too much for high school, but are ideal for a special occasion. Regardless, everywhere is a runway for Barbie.

#2: Peaches ‘n Cream Barbie

Barbie has always been the epitome of fashion. And around the mid-1980s, she really outdid herself with this gorgeous gown. Seriously, it’s everything. Peaches n’ Cream Barbie has a shiny, elegant sweetheart top and a full chiffon skirt. And don’t even get us started on the waist flower detail! The ruffled stole, meanwhile, is fit for Met Gala-worthy unraveling reveals. Because you can’t don the beautiful piece and not be wonderfully dramatic. And there’s no way anyone could wear this dress without having a princess moment and twirling around in the peach masterpiece. Luckily, Unique Vintage had a shorter, and likely more comfortable, version of the dress for all us humans back in 2019. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. In March 1959, Barbie first stepped onto the scene donning this black-and-white striped bathing suit complete with white shades, gold hoop earrings, and black open-toe pumps. The ponytail and bold red lip topped off the ‘50s pinup model aesthetic. Looking back at this vintage one-piece, we’d argue you could totally wear it out on the town! After all, it doesn’t only have to be for the water. Throw on a skirt, shorts, or even pants with it, and you’ve got yourself a complete outfit. That’s the kind of versatility we love to see. Whatever way it’s worn, we need this iconic ensemble ASAP.
