VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton WRITTEN BY: Sadie Perkins
Script written by Sadie Perkins

These guys are the definition of boyfriend material! For this list, we'll be looking at characters who had a significant impact on pop culture and who impressed us with their kindness, loyalty, charm and good looks. We've included characters like Troy Bolton from High School Musical Trilogy, Jamal Malik in Slumdog Millionaire, Patrick Verona in 10 Things I Hate About You, Noah Calhoun in The Notebook, Landon Carter in A Walk to Remember and Aragon in Lord of the Rings! Who would you want to date?

#10: Jamal Malik “Slumdog Millionaire” (2008)

When there’s a million dollars on the line and he still chooses love, you know he’s a keeper. Braving slumlords who wanted him dead at every turn, Jamal showed an incredible effort and sheer strength of will to win back his true love, leaving our hearts aflutter. Overcoming torture, prejudice, and the dangerous Mumbai slums, nothing gets in the way of Jamal’s love for Latika. Loyal to a fault and just as courageous, he’s a modern day hero that we’d share a dance with any day.

#9: Troy Bolton “High School Musical” Trilogy (2006-08)

Top 10 Troy Bolton Moments

A popular jock and captain of the basketball team - and he can sing? We all like a man who’s not afraid to show who he truly is. Whether it’s breaking into song in the middle of a crowded room or confessing his love to Gabriella, Troy is not embarrassed when it comes to being true to himself. Complete with a sense of humour, natural leadership abilities, and a whole lot of heart, Troy is the complete package that would make all our high school dreams come true.

#8: “Woodchuck” Todd “Easy A” (2010)

Quick wits are easy to like, and “Woodchuck” Todd has them in spades. “Easy A” may not follow a traditional romantic comedy narrative, but we still couldn’t help but fall for this guy. With a sense of humour that could keep up laughing for hours, this teen heartthrob never fails to entertain. Though making us laugh is important, what we really admire about Todd is his never ending faith in those he loves and the fact that no matter what, he will always stand by his friends. Faithful and funny, he’s a man after our own hearts.

#7: Westley “The Princess Bride” (1987)

Finding a man who is crazy about you and would fulfill your every wish for is pretty much every girl’s dream, right? With undying loyalty and the bravery of ten men, Westley’s willingness to do anything and everything to rescue Buttercup keeps us swooning throughout the entire film. A man who is honorable and maintains his morals even while in the middle of a fight, the “Man in Black” has an old-school chivalry that’s tough to come by these days. But aside from all his swashbuckling, he still has a heart of gold - and that’s what really gets us.

#6: Derek Reynolds “Save the Last Dance” (2001)

Determined to get out of the bad situation he was raised in, Derek’s ambition and aspirations for the future are what make him so appealing. He’s unwilling to let his circumstances dictate the rest of his life, choosing instead to rise above the cards he has been dealt. Hard working and intelligent, his willingness to help Sara achieve her own dreams shows his selfless personality and good heart. His awe-inspiring dance skills and sense of rhythm are really just bonuses in our books, and there’s no question we’d all love a chance to have a dance with Derek.

#5: Aragorn “Lord of the Rings” series (2001-03)

Moving past his chiseled good looks, who wouldn’t want to be with a King? Upstanding and righteous even when faced with difficult decisions, Aragorn is equal parts rugged warrior and sensitive, gentle companion. Faced with the temptation of another woman, the future King oh-so-gentlemanly declines her advances to save himself for his one true love. Kind, fair, and intelligent, Aragorn has all the qualities that a great leader (and a great boyfriend!) should have.

#4: Landon Carter “A Walk to Remember” (2002)

Sometimes a willingness to change is all you need. Stubborn, rebellious, and an archetypal bad boy, it took some time for us to warm up to Landon Carter. His commitment to changing his ways once he fell in love with Jamie was admirable though, showing the good nature that existed underneath his rough exterior. We couldn’t help but grab the tissues as we watched him try to help Jamie complete all the items on her bucket list before it was too late. By the end of the movie, he had done a complete 180 and it was hard to picture the boy he once was.

#3: Noah Calhoun “The Notebook” (2004)

Whether it’s in the flashbacks or the modern day scenes, it’s hard to imagine a partner as loyal and devoted as Noah. From the moment they first meet, Noah makes it clear that he’ll do everything in his power to impress Allie, offering up one grand romantic gesture after another until he finally wins her over. Even when they’re apart, he works his whole life to keep up the promises he made to her, in the hopes that one day she’ll come back to him. His passion and sense of humor make us love the young Noah, but it’s the time he spends with Allie in their golden years that really sets this man apart.

#2: Patrick Verona “10 Things I Hate About You” (1999)

Top 10 Neil Patrick Harris Moments

Though he may not start out with the most noble intentions, we couldn’t help but fall for this bad-boy turned romantic serenader. With intelligence, a sense of humor and razor sharp wit, Patrick is the stuff of alternative teenage dreams. Despite his prickly exterior and his original reasons for pursuing Kat, the transformation of his personality over time chipped away at our preconceived notions about his intentions. In the end Patrick was proof that yet again, anybody can change and in this case, the wait was totally worth it. Before we reveal our top pick, here are a few honourable mentions. Jesse Swanson “Pitch Perfect” (2012) Jake Perry “Sweet Home Alabama” (2002) Aaron Samuels “Mean Girls” (2004)

#1: Jack Dawson Titanic (1997)

With innocence, kindheartedness and an undeniable charisma, you couldn’t dislike Jack Dawson if you tried. He has an infectiously optimistic outlook on life and old-school romantic visions of love that are oh so charming. This Titanic heartthrob’s passion for adventure and for the love of his life showed us what true devotion looked like. Always offering comfort and the promise of a better tomorrow, he never failed to lose his upbeat sense of humor or desire to make those he loved feel better. Choosing to comfort Rose in their darkest moments, Jack’s selflessness and good hearted nature made us want to never let go.
