The film reel and the redhead - it’s a match made in heaven! Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’re counting down our picks for the top 10 redheads in movies! For this list, we’ve looked at the best redheads ever captured on the silver screen – we’re talking about specific characters and not actors here. For a similar list looking at the world of redheads on the small screen, be sure to check out our video on the Top 10 Redheads in TV. If you are more into blondes and so forth, we have videos on those as well!

#10: Claire Standish “The Breakfast Club” (1985)

We have for you a royal welcome today, as Claire Standish A.K.A. ‘The Princess’ gets the redheaded ball rolling! Played by Molly Ringwald, this Breakfast Clubber has lost her Saturday morning because she ditched school for shopping, but she spends the movie realizing that there’s more to happiness than fashion! Even so, her short, sassy, scarlet cut looks super cool... And well worth whatever it was she paid at the salon!

#9: Merida “Brave” (2012)

The redheads are rampant in our next movie, but main character Merida stands out from the crowd of similar colors! Set in Scotland, “Brave” is at once a realization of pretty much every Scottish stereotype known to man, and also a breaking down of them. Merida is the unconventionally determined, strong female lead, a role which is symbolized by the red wildness of her hair! There’s no strawberry blonde tameness to her; it’s full-on and fantastic!

#8: Shaun “Shaun of the Dead” (2004)

‘He’s got red on him’, and we’re not just talking about his work shirt! Simon Pegg’s “Shaun of the Dead” proved one of the most successful comedies of its decade, and the title character proves that the zombie apocalypse just wouldn’t have been as brilliant in blonde or brunette! Shaun is your everyday man, going about his everyday business, trials and tribulations... That is until the dead rise from their graves, chaos ensues, and he takes his redheaded ways to The Winchester!

#7: Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow “The Avengers” (2012)

There’s no doubt about it, a redheaded woman is a very attractive thing! And when that redheaded woman is one Scarlett Johansson, words don’t really do it justice! Throw into the mix a dangerous attitude and a skintight outfit, and you have a frighteningly fierce, scarily sexy marvel of a Marvel character! The Black Widow is dangerous and she demands attention... She’s the scarlet woman of film noir tradition, transfixing the 21st century, superhero-searching cinema-goer!

#6: Leeloo “The Fifth Element” (1997)

It’s true that red is the rarest of hair colors, but in this instance it’s truly one of a kind! In this futuristic action flick, Leeloo is created out of the titular ‘fifth element’, and is described as the apparently ‘perfect being’ - and we are not about to disagree there! Played by Milla Jovovich, everything about this character is eye-catching! The clothes she wears, the expressions she pulls, the edgy, enflamed haircut that she sports! This is one redhead who won’t go quietly!

#5: Mary Jane Watson “Spider-Man” (2002)

Also in:

Top 10 Mary-Kate and Ashley Movie Moments

In terms of superhero-centric samples of redheaded-ness, Spider-Man’s MJ has to reign supreme! Notably played by Kirsten Dunst in the 2002 big screen adaptation of the web-slinger, she combines the cute and the confident, the beauty with the brains! Erring closer toward ‘ginger’ than some of the other more fiery reds to make today’s roll call, Mary Jane’s a little different than most damsels in distress! She gets more than just the Spidey senses tingling; she’s an all-out wonder in red!

#4: Jessica Rabbit “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” (1988)

Top 10 Best Jessica Chastain Performances

The second animated character to make our countdown - but not the last - Jessica Rabbit caused a sexualized storm when she hit the silver screen in the late ‘80s! The object of affection of the eponymous Roger, she soon scooted into the wildest daydreams of your everyday man and woman as well! With hair as red as her dress code is revealing, she’s even more eye-catching than your usual cartoon character would be, were they to walk around in actual real life!

#3: Annie “Annie” (1982)

Red is probably the most immediately eye-catching hair color, and tight curls are arguably the most attention-getting style... Our bronze medal red ‘do is a combination of both! Annie is everyone’s favorite lovable, laugh-along-able orphan... Her hair is merely a physical continuation of her full-on, friendly personality. Living in New York and landed in among the rich and wealthy, it may be ‘a hard knock life’, but hers is a story set to music and hers is an image stuck in all of our memories!

#2: Princess Ariel “The Little Mermaid” (1989)

Also in:

Top 10 Kickass Disney Princess Moments

The final crimson-haired cartoon character to feature today, Ariel’s appropriately coral coloring has somehow become even greater a physical trademark than her tail! A mermaid she may be, but Ariel is also about as awesome a redhead as has ever swum across our screens! Intent on making it on dry land, little does ‘the little mermaid’ likely realize how desirable her ‘do would be ‘out of the sea’... So much saltwater, so little discoloration... And that kids, is the real magic of Disney! Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. - Grace Faraday “Gangster Squad” (2013) - Dr. Jean Grey “X-Men” (2000) - Pennywise “It” (1990) - Anna “Frozen” (2013)

#1: Ron Weasley “Harry Potter” franchise (2001-11)
