VOICE OVER: Aaron Brown WRITTEN BY: Andrew Tejada
Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're counting down our predictions for “Marvel's Spider-Man 2”. For this list, we'll look at possible characters, plotlines and gameplay mechanics we might see in the next webhead themed PS5 game. If you haven't played “Marvel's Spider-Man”, the DLC spinoffs for that game or the “Miles Morales” followup, beware of spoilers ahead. Our list includes an appearance from Morbius, revamped MJ stealth sections, a homebase for Spider-Man, a crossover with Wolverine, and more!

The Lizard Returns

Doctor Curt Connors, AKA the Lizard, is one of Peter Parker’s most recognizable rogues. Although the villain didn’t appear in his scaly form in either game, he got multiple shoutouts. Peter talks about Connors in an audio log that’s tinged with regret. The webhead also finds a professor wearing an admittedly decent Lizard costume at a party. After seeing these references, Connors himself appeared as an ally to Norman Osborn in a “Spider-Man: Miles Morales” post credits scene. The fact that the doctor can turn back into the lizard and working relationship with the morally dubious Osborne are huge red flags. It feels like Connors is on a slippery slope to becoming the Lizard by the time the sequel drops.

Morbius May Fly In

After starting out as an antagonist in a Spider-Man story, Morbius became a kind of antihero. Outside of comics, this vampire-themed character has also appeared as a villain in the “Spider-Man 3” video game. He could make for a spectacular boss fight in the new Sony title. Although Morbius wasn’t directly mentioned in the newer games, there was an interesting reference in the character’s live-action movie trailer. Viewers noticed that art from the “Spider-Man” PS4 game was in the same trailer that painted the webhead as a villain. While this could hint at a live-action clash between the characters, it could also hint at a virtual matchup. Whether Morbius appeared as a friend or foe, he could make a great addition to the PlayStation franchise.

Revamped MJ Stealth Sections

While fans can debate what the first game’s strongest feature is, most would probably agree that the MJ and Miles stealth sections were the weakest link. The pace of the game ground to a halt as you tried to avoid enemies with no powers so you wouldn't trigger an instant game over. Although these sections got a little better when MJ and Miles were allowed to use tech, they could still be annoying to play through. Hopefully, the lukewarm reception to these missions will inspire developers to either seriously revamp or cut these stages completely. Because we love the idea of playing as iconic characters like MJ. We just want her to be playable in much less annoying stages.

Revisiting a Villain or Two at the Raft

Both Peter and Miles helped put a few villains behind bars in their games. But what if the heroes could check up on some of those big bads? Over on reddit, a user named “daredevilman999” said the game could take a page out of “Batman Arkham Knight”. That DC title notably lets you see villains that you locked up in the GCPD. We’ve seen the Raft prison for supervillains in the original “Spider-Man” game. While we don’t know if developers would let you freely swing to and from the jail, we could at least get a cutscene that takes place there. It would be amazing if the sequel gave us a level or cinematic where Peter confronts a villain like Doc Oc in the Raft.

Black Cat Steals Some of the Spotlight

The master thief Black Cat was a huge part of the first game’s DLC story. Not only did we get insight on her extensive history with Peter, but she also helped him take down Hammerhead. Black Cat also reinforced that she's good at fighting when she teamed up with Spider-man during combat. After all of this setup, we could easily see her playing a bigger role in the next story. Since Black Cat is allegedly trying to leave a life of crime behind, she could help Peter at a crucial moment. She could also return as a combat/stealth ally or fully playable character. Considering how much Black Cat could bring to the table, it would be criminal to continue the franchise without her.

A Spider-Man Base

In the first Spider-Man game, Peter was able to work on his suits at Doc Oc’s lab. But since the scientist took a sharp villanous turn, Spider-Man’s going to need a new base of operations. Peter seems to have inherited May's house in Queens after her tragic passing. He could easily convert a section of the house to a base that players can visit. Since this version of Spider-Man is far from rich, we don’t think it will be as fancy as other Spider-headquarters. But the idea of having even a basic base where you can craft suits or research missions would be spectacular. Spider-man could definitely use a place to hang his many suits.

Swinging Around Symkaria

It was insanely fun to run and swing through the detailed and breathtaking Manhattan map. However, we think the developers would want to add new areas to keep things fresh. While they could have Peter swing out to boroughs like Brooklyn, we think he has a future in Symkaria. Peter notably spent most of “Spider-Man: Miles Morales” in the European country. Symkaria is also home to the royal mercenary Silver Sable and her Wild Pack. Since Spider-Man knows her and the country, it would be easy to find a reason to send him overseas for a stage or two. Letting players stretch their legs in Symkaria would make for an exciting change of scenery.

Wolverine Crossover

Gamers were pleasantly surprised when Insomniac Games announced they were working on a “Wolverine” title. Although we don’t know much about the gameplay or storyline, we’re excited to wield this mutant’s claws in the future. But maybe Insomniac’s Wolverine doesn’t have to wait to debut in his solo title. Since the company said both games take place in the same universe, it would be easy for the Spider-Man sequel to tease the character during a post credits scene. However, if the developers really want to be ambitious, Wolverine could appear in a cinematic or as a playable character in a fun combat sequence. We’re willing to bet Insomniac will blow players' minds by letting these mutant's claws come out to support Spider-Man.

A Spider-Man Will Wear a Symbiote Suit

Venom’s appearance in the latest sequel trailer confirmed our heroes will have to deal with the alien symbiote that empowers him. Both games foreshadowed the extraterrestrial will bond with Harry Osborn. However, it may not stop there. Since the symbiote has a habit of getting attached to Spider-Man, we could see it hopping over to one of the heroic webheads. Its presence could open up new abilities to play with. However, it could also start corrupting a hero. Could Peter or Miles end up taking a sinister turn? And if so, will the Spider-Man without the suit be forced to fight one of their closest friends? Seeing the symbiote on Peter or Miles would make for great gameplay and an even better story.

Kraven Will Squash A Spider

One of Spider-Man's greatest losses came at the hands of Kraven the Hunter. This historic villain is famous for successfully pursuing the webhead and burying the hero alive. Unfortunately for Miles and Peter, it looks like this villain is due to arrive in the sequel. We think there's a strong chance that Kraven might successfully take down one of the Spider-Men. Since both characters appear to be playable in combat, the game could continue without one of them around. Maybe Peter or Miles will be inspired to put on the symbiote suit we just mentioned after their friend falls victim to Kraven’s hunt. But whether an alien costume comes into play in this storyline or not, neither Spider-Man is safe with this villain around.
