10 Times Karens Ruined Halloween

Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re examining infamous instances when the most belligerent, entitled, and meanest folks, poetically known as Karens, caused havoc around Halloween.

Mask Punishment

Usually, when a child is misbehaving, they get put in a timeout. Well, workers at the Lil' Blessing Childcare in Hamilton, Mississippi, went way too far in 2022 with a dash of trauma, which they recorded. After finding a “Scream”-esque mask, one worker decided to put on the horrifying headgear and frighten the kids. Then, when she left the room, she removed the mask and returned to the kids, telling them she got rid of the “monster” to get a hero’s welcome. On top of being fired, four workers were charged with abuse and one other for failing to report the incident. In 2023, they received various sentences, including 12 months in jail and fines of over $5,900.

Attacking Actors

Scare actors are Halloween heroes. Especially busy around the frightening festivities, they have to deal with all sorts of nonsense from Karens, more so if drink is involved. In 2015, three people attacked workers at the Universal Studios park in Orlando, Florida. In “The Walking Dead House” attraction, one actor jumped out at William Nunnally, who turned, looked at the performer, then punched them, but told the police he “accidentally hit” them. A belligerent Karla Rondan-Diaz kicked the stilts of one actor multiple times, causing them to fall. An unnamed man from Fort Myers, Florida, caused two scare actors to quit Universal’s “Halloween Horror Nights” after kicking another performer in the face. Each of the Karens faced battery charges.

Who's the Real Cop?

Considering Halloween is all about donning costumes, it’s amazing there aren’t more stories like this. In 2022, Kylee Danus and Timothy Wilkes were pulled over in Ohio as they drove home to Pennsylvania. When the officer approached, it must have been like the iconic Spider-Man meme since Danus was dressed like a cop. Danus, for whatever reason, began incriminating herself. She first admitted to not having a license, then stated Wilkes had a warrant out for his arrest for a false report of assault she issued. Getting more annoyed, talking over the cop, and refusing to leave the car, Danus was eventually arrested. However, when in the police cruiser, she kicked an officer’s arm, adding to her growing list of charges.

The Karen-Crow

In 2022, city officials in Prosser, Washington, decided to put the ultimate terrifying scarecrow on display for their Fall Decorating Competition, one representing Karens. With a t-shirt stating “Can I Speak to the Manager?” and standing inside “Karen’s Garden,” the scarecrow, of course, drew the ire of some. Local resident Maricela Sanchez claimed the Karen-crow was built to resemble her after she protested a city bond proposal on social media. Regardless that the only similarity was the same hair color, she led the charge to have it removed. While officials denied it was done to retaliate against Sanchez, they relented to the pressure and removed the Karen-crow.

Squabble to Assault

In 2022, Kathryn Llewellyn had been arguing with Philippa Stevens on Facebook. Rather than block her and move on, Llewellyn wouldn’t let it go and posted harsh statuses about her. Stevens attempted to stop her by contacting Llewellyn’s partner, only to get an abusive message from him. After calling Stevens and laughing down the phone repeatedly on Halloween night, Llewellyn and her friend, Teresa Morgan-Peters, put on clown masks and went to her house in Ystradgynlais, Wales. They broke in and attacked her with a blade and covered her in bleach. While Stevens couldn’t see the attackers, the bleach and masks used contained their DNA, and they were arrested. In 2023, Llewellyn and Morgan-Peters were sentenced to 10 years in jail.

Party Foul

Halloween parties for kids are very common. Usually, they’re over pretty early and don’t affect neighbors for long. Some even enjoy the event. However, other neighbors are Karens who have the patience of Leonardo DiCaprio when his partner turns 26. In 2019, Ashley Wilkerson was livid about the kid’s party near her home in Pottsboro, Texas. So, was she reasonable and spoke to the parents about the noise or put up with it for a few hours? Nope. Wilkerson threatened the partygoers with her firearm. Yep. This massive escalation caused the police to be called, who arrested and charged Wilkerson for her unhinged threat.

Mayor Menace

In 2022, a family was driving down a road near Portland, Oregon, when they noticed an SUV being driven erratically. When the SUV pulled over, the family slowed down to get a description of the driver and the car for the cops. Suddenly, a person got out of the SUV and fired upon the family! Thankfully, no one was injured. The assailant turned out to be Dowen Jones, who had been mayor of Rufus, Oregon, since 2018. The mayor was arrested for his near-fatal road rage. In 2023, on top of a new mayor being elected in Rufus, Jones pleaded guilty to a lesser charge than attempted murder and was sentenced to 18 months in jail and fined $13,000.

Jealous Friend Fiend

2022 was a crazy year for Karen Halloween hijinx. In New Britain, Pennsylvania, Felicia Elizabeth Acosta let the “green-eyed monster” take over her at a party. Many of us have been there, getting slightly jealous of someone else hanging out with your friend. It’s annoying, sure, but we move on. However, not many of us have resorted to Acosta’s action. Upon seeing her friend going outside with another chum, Acosta accosted them in a jealous rage. She then attacked one of her friends several times. Unsurprisingly, after that assault, the cops were called, and they arrested Acosta for assault and harassment, giving us a Halloween-themed mugshot.

Hatchet Horror

In 2021, Theodora Economou and Vivian Bertrand were being nuisances in Placerville, California. They were walking down the street with a knife and a hatchet, destroying windows, knocking over signs, and smearing fake blood on property. When the vandals were confronted by Kristine Hall and her friend, Economou and Bertrand got violent as they attacked them with their weapons. When they tried to escape, the friend managed to hold onto Bertrand for the cops, while Economou was found later in a creek. The friend sustained a hand injury, while Hall was left blind in one eye. In 2023, Economou was sentenced to four years in jail, and Bertrand received two two-year sentences to be served concurrently.

Defending the Indefensible

Some people don’t seem to realize that just because you were allowed to do something in your past, it doesn’t mean it’s an okay thing to do today. In 2018, the host of “Megyn Kelly Today” defended people who use blackface for Halloween costumes. Kelly stated when she was a child, it was fine if they were dressing up as a character. Failing to notice times have changed, Kelly received so much backlash for her comments. Even her on-air apology and internal email to colleagues weren’t enough to save her show from being canceled by NBC just over a year after it began airing. Several months later, in 2019, Kelly’s contract with the network was torn up.
