10 Worst Endings In Mortal Kombat Games
VOICE OVER: Riccardo Tucci WRITTEN BY: Ty Richardson
Not every character can be given a satisfying ending, and when it comes to “Mortal Kombat”, there's more terrible endings than we'd like to admit. Of them all, these were the absolute worst of the worst! Our list includes Reptile “Mortal Kombat 4” (1997), Johnny Cage “Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance” (2002), Cyber Sub-Zero “Mortal Kombat” (2011), Cassie Cage “Mortal Kombat X” (2015) and more!

10 Awful Mortal Kombat Endings

Welcome to MojoPlays, and today, we’re looking at 10 Awful “Mortal Kombat” Endings.

Not every character can be given a satisfying ending, and when it comes to “Mortal Kombat”, there’s more terrible endings than we’d like to admit. Of them all, these were the absolute worst of the worst! Which ending did you dislike the most? Let us know in the comments below!

Reptile

“Mortal Kombat 4” (1997)

Much like Baraka, Reptile has been the butt of the joke between all of the “Mortal Kombat” ninjas. How can anyone take this lizard man seriously, especially after getting offed so easily in his “Mortal Kombat 4” ending? Reptile simply wants to return to his homeworld, believing he’s done all he can to ensure Shinnok’s reign over the Realms. However, Quan Chi takes this as an insult, and Shinnok suddenly appears and finishes off Reptile. Like, the dude just wanted to go home! What reason did Shinnok have to do that?

Jade

“Mortal Kombat” (2011)

How could they get so lazy in developing our lovely Jade? After defeating Shao Kahn, Jade falls unconscious and meets an unnamed woman who has no prior history in the “Mortal Kombat”. She basically shows up and says to Jade, “Hey, I’m gonna possess your body, ok? Thanks!” No reason given. Jade is pretty much getting screwed over by some rando as a reward for taking down Outword’s malevolent overlord. Yeah, because that makes total sense! Couldn’t they have given her a more honorable ending, like using her power to protect Kitana or helping Edenia? No, they’re not exciting, but it's better than this!

Johnny Cage

“Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance” (2002)

Suppose you defeated Shang Tsung and Quan Chi and achieved ultimate power as a result. How would you use it? Fight crime? Protect the world? Whatever reason you have makes more sense than Johnny’s choice in “Deadly Alliance”. Get this - the guy decides to terminate his contract with a movie distributor, and then raises funds to make a “Mortal Kombat” movie, telling how he stopped Quan Chi and Shang Tsung from conquering Earthrealm. He also got super rich...not like he wasn’t before, but whatever.

Cassie Cage

“Mortal Kombat X” (2015)

Cassie and the other MKX kids - Jacqui, Takeda, and Kung Jin - were a bit polarizing when they were introduced in MKX, and they each had pretty subpar endings. But of them all, Cassie’s was the worst. You cannot tell us with a straight face that an inexperienced soldier like Cassie managed to defeat a powerful being like Shujinko! Yeah, remember Shujinko?? You know, the guy who spent all of “Deception” learning and mastering everyone’s fighting styles? THAT Shujinko? How could he have easily been taken down by some punk kid??

Scorpion

“Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance” (2002)

It was one thing to forget to put in Scorpion in “Mortal Kombat 3”. It’s a whole other level of injustice to off him in the most ridiculous way possible. In his ending for “Deadly Alliance”, Scorpion is overpowered by BDSM Oni Drahmin and “Warcraft” Orc number twenty-three--I mean, Moloch. Somehow, two generic dudes managed to take down a vengeful, rage-fueled ninja like Scorpion. You expect us to believe the leader of the Shirai Ryu died a humiliating death by two underpowered, unintelligible Netherrealm guys? Yeah, right!

Cyber Sub-Zero

“Mortal Kombat” (2011)

Cyber Sub-Zero was one of the coolest new additions to the franchise we had seen in a long time, and yet, they somehow still blew it. Whereas the rest of the cast get narrations for their endings, Cyber Sub-Zero gets jack all, and we’re left to piece together what exactly happened to him. Obviously, something happened with him absorbing Shao Kahn’s power, but...like… Did Shao Kahn take over his body, or did Cyber Sub-Zero just turn evil? It is supposedly the former, but it’s hard to tell when no explanation is provided. Oh, but Kratos and Freddy get proper endings! Let’s forget the new guy!

Stryker

“Mortal Kombat 3” (1995)

Stryker is...an okay character. Not the most impressive, but he’s better than some of the other characters we’ve seen over the years. Doesn’t make his endings any better, and “Mortal Kombat 3” featured his worst one. His ending shows him learning “the true meaning of survival” before heading back and ambushing Shao Kahn, successfully bringing down the overlord and freeing Earthrealm. So...a couple of pistol shots, grenades, and a twirly baton is all it takes to defeat Shao Kahn, huh? Guess we’ve been playing “Mortal Kombat” all wrong.

Mokap

“Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance” (2002)

How someone like Mokap could possibly defeat a couple of powerful sorcerers is beyond us. And yet, here we are. What does this unremarkable Average Joe do after accomplishing this feat? Simple - he goes to work on Johnny Cage’s dumb movie and gets a job at Midway Games because of it. Yep, all of this was possible because he brought down Quan Chi and Shang Tsung! Because that’s totally logical and is completely relevant to the story. Seriously, why was this dude put into these games? He may be a joke character, but he’s a REALLY bad joke character.

All of Them

“Mortal Kombat: Armageddon” (2006)

Honestly, we couldn’t decide on an ending from “Armageddon”. Kobra’s was pretty lame since he gets inexplicably killed by Kira. Hsu Hao dies from the shockwave made by Blaze’s death. Then, we saw everyone else’s endings and realized they ALL suck! Everyone either dies by something stupid or ends the world in some ridiculous way. You don’t even see this happening either! You get to watch your character do the same shadow boxing animations as everyone else and a narrator TELLS you what happened. Someone took the laziness dial and cranked it to the max with this game!

Before we get to our final entry, let’s finish off a few Dishonorable Mentions…

Kano, “Mortal Kombat” (2011)

Becomes a Digital Virus...or Something Like That

Nightwolf, “Mortal Kombat” (2011)

Becomes a Werewolf Because Shao Kahn Can Corrupt Spirit Animals Now

Johnny Cage, “Mortal Kombat 4” (1997)

So Funny We Forgot to Laugh

Jax

“Mortal Kombat 4” (1997)

You just can’t talk about bad “Mortal Kombat” endings without bringing up the most hilariously infamous one of them all! Jax's ending in "Mortal Kombat 4" is awful on so many levels! Is it because of how it lazily reuses elements from Sonya and Jarek's endings? Maybe it's because of the laughably bad writing and voice acting? Or the complete disregard of all logic like when Jax shows up from out of nowhere? Well, one thing's for certain - we'll never get enough of that terrible bit of dialogue at the end.
