Cheer Season 2: Where Are They Now?

Welcome to MsMojo and today we’re looking at Cheer Season 2: where are they now?

For this list, we’ll be looking at the characters from the second season of Cheer and what they are up to nowadays. We don’t want to ruin the story of your favourite characters, so consider this your spoiler warning.

Who is your favourite character from Cheer? Let us know in the comments!

#10: DeVonte “Dee” Joseph

Dee Joseph is a breakout star of "Cheer" season two thanks to his daring abilities and his charisma. Tumbling for rivals Trinity Valley Community College, it's not hard to see why head coach Vontae Johnson brought him on. It seems that the young man can take on almost anything–to the point that his signature move (a five turn flip called the "quint") is illegal, according to the Daytona rules. Joseph is a bit of a hothead, and will fight for his views when he and coaches disagree, though this clearly shows his commitment - and he is still performing with TVCC’s squad. Should there be a "Cheer" season three and should it follow Trinity Valley again, then it's likely Dee Joseph will be back as well.

#9: Lexi Brumback

When "illegal stuff" was found in Lexi Brumback's car at the end of season 1, it was a little surprising to see that the popular cheerleader would be back for the second season. But Lexi disappeared from the series seemingly without any characteristic drama or fireworks. The truth was that she didn't return to the squad after the hiatus between episode 4 and 5, as she graduated from her studies without being part of the group. Looks like she may have moved on from cheerleading as she is now a social media influencer.

#8: Andy Cosferent

The popular assistant coach was a real pillar of the show in the first 2 seasons of "Cheer." Well, that was up until the moment when he seemed to disappear off the face of the Cheerleading world. The show had no more mentions of him from the Navarro staff and cheerleaders post episode 5, and the internet had a meltdown. Fans of the show speculated that there had been some falling out with the school, or they had some nefarious reason for ghosting viewers. However, the real reasoning appears to be that he left to set up his own business during the five-month break between episodes 4 and 5. Going forward, Andy Cosferent is now co-owner of a sports and entertainment company called “Cheer Source.”

#7: Jada Wooten

After the cast of "Cheer" was expanded out to showcase TVCC's team preparing for Daytona in season 2, more stars were born. Their passion for their art as well as their propping up of each other both physically and mentally added to the show's appeal. Right up there, fiercely cheering on her teammates (pun intended) was Jada Wooten. As season two finished, Wooten had already been at Trinity Valley Community College for a few years and was a retiring member of the squad. Jada moved on to Sam Houston State University, and is currently part of the cheer squad there. However, she looks back fondly at her time at TVCC, recently, defending her former coach from online negativity.

#6: Angel Rice

And then there was the Angel Rice! She’s "the Madonna of cheerleading," according to TVCC Touring Recruit Josh Briones, and a girl who “The Today Show” famously claimed looked like she ["could flip and flip and flip forever"]. Tumbler Rice is also a legitimate Guinness World Record Holder for having the most full double full twists in 60 seconds. She was a real win for Vontae, who was actually recruiting her brother Jaymo, before she joined the team. After winning the NCA with TVCC at the end of season 2, she hasn't gone far from the Cheer world, and is actually in preparations to defend the championship with TVCC in the 2021-22 competition.

#5: Maddy Brum

Maddy Brum was brought up in the gym, and is grounded, hard-working and has put her hardships in the rearview. To see her commit and achieve so much in one season is heartwarming. But then, to see how decimated the flyer is when Navarro falls short of the championship is heart wrenching. Brum, who was described as not even knowing how good she is, moved on from the Navarro cheerleading squad in late 2021. However, she is now performing her one-of-a-kind skills with the All-Star team CA Wildcats. From her signing to the Bulldogs in episode three’s “Dracut Girl”, her passion for cheerleading oozed from her, so it is no surprise that she is continuing in a new direction in the same industry.

#4: Vontae Johnson

Without necessarily intending to be, Vontae Johnson can be seen as the main antagonist of "Cheer" season 2. He is the head coach of Navarro rivals Trinity Valley Community College's squad–and his charisma seemingly knows no bounds. Johnson didn't spend any time throwing shade or negativity at Monica Aldama or her team in any of the episodes. In fact, his cool demeanour and need to win is all that the man exudes. Though his involvement in the shows did gain a little backlash, his squad rallied around and backed him up. And now as a defending NCA champion, it is likely he will be returning if there’s a season three, and is coaching up his new TVCC squad for Daytona 2022.

#3: Monica Aldama

The success of season one was largely placed at the head of Navarro's squad, and new face of competitive cheering Monica Aldama. It didn't take long before offers started rolling in for other endeavours. However, as we saw with season two of "Cheer," Monica was very selective – wanting to stay committed to taking Navarro to the National Cheerleading finals in Daytona once again, and repeat season one’s win. During the hiatus resulting from the Coronavirus outbreak, Aldama took part in "Dancing With The Stars," which caused tensions between her and team member La'Darius Marshall. Post-season two of "Cheer," Aldama hasn’t gone anywhere, and is gearing up for the 21-22 competition - though she did take the the time to write a book on her experiences.

#2: Gabi Butler

Gabi Butler's life has seemingly always been involved in the world of cheerleading–having been performing as a gymnast and in competitive cheerleading since the age of 8. Previously to “Cheer,” she was also part of the YouTube series "Cheerleaders" from AwesomenessTV. Her involvement in season one of "Cheer" was roundly praised and her talents were admired by all viewers. Her return in season two was welcome as she gave us more of a raw view of her at both her best and worst. Since the finals in Daytona, Butler has moved on from Navarro and now cheers for Weber State University.

#1: La’Darius Marshall

Marshall famously left the team following the cancelled NCA competition, sometime during Monica’s hiatus for “Dancing With The Stars.” He clashed with assistant coach Kailee Peppers, and took his frustrations to social media–leading to acrimony between himself and his squad. His massive falling out with Monica seems to have somewhat mended by the final episode of season 2, though it doesn't appear that he'd return for another season. He continues to host live videos on his social media accounts, and reportedly has serious aspirations to move into the acting world. Post-”Cheer,” La'Darius went to Pensacola, Florida and currently coaches cheer there.
