The mystery surrounding Spidey’s next foe and who will play him may have been solved. Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to play one of Spider-Man’s most infamous foes in Mysterio. Mysterio’s first appearance as Quentin Beck came in The Amazing Spider-Man #13, and the character has gone on to appear in numerous issues, under several alter egos. Mysterio will prove to be a difficult villain for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, but not because of his superpowers; he has none. Instead, Mysterio relies on his skills as a master illusionist with skills in special effects, hypnotism, chemistry and even robot engineering. Funny enough, this isn’t the first time Gyllenhaal has been linked to star in a Spider-Man project, as in between Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 1 and 2, Tobey Maguire hurt himself filming seabiscuit, forcing the director to name him as a replacement. In the end, Maguire recovered, but maybe this time around Gyllenhaal’s Spidey story will come full circle.
Former President of the United States Barack Obama, and former First Lady Michelle Obama had to step aside from politics in 2017. So what business does the power couple find themselves in now? The film business. The Obamas signed a major multiyear deal with streaming giants Netflix, that will see the duo produce original movies and TV series for the company. The Obamas will be all over the map when it comes to what type of content they will be creating, with Netflix tweeting that anything from scripted series, movies, documentaries, and docuseries will be put into production. This will all be done under the Obamas’ production company Higher Ground Productions. Of course, with the hiring of two incredibly popular Democrats, Republican supporters have taken to social media with outrage, threatening to cancel their Netflix subscriptions if the streaming company move on with the deal. However, according to The New York Times, Barack Obama has told his “associates” that his plan is not to use the Netflix platform to “wage a public campaign” against his conservative successor.
Before we get to our final entry, here are a couple new releases:
“Mary Shelley” (2018)
“Solo: A Star Wars Story” (2018)
CNN broke a bombshell of a story detailing how veteran actor Morgan Freeman allegedly conducted sexually inappropriate behavior with a number of women. The allegations include conduct on movie sets, press junkets and at his production company, Revelations Entertainment. 16 people came forward to CNN with information on the allegations. Eight of them were women, claiming they were his victims. The report also details a specific incident, involving Freeman and a young production assistant in 2015, during the shoot of 2017’s Going in Style. She claimed that Freeman often made inappropriate comments towards her and touched her body when she didn’t want him to. The article also describes how on one occasion, Freeman kept trying to lift the production assistant’s skirt, asking her if she was wearing any underwear. Co-star Alan Arkin stepped in and told him to stop. Freeman has released a statement, saying “Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy, I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected — that was never my intent.”
